Delayed Input 807 Post-Show Assessment

No particularly good outtakes this week, just me struggling with the phrase "player reward" but not struggling enough to make it funny. It just takes a little practice.

Anyway, this was a weird episode. I think the original goal was going to be to talk about why I personally get invested in games, or make a list of my favorite incentives, or just like a fake "Here's what Ragnarok REALLY needed!" list. But then, as you could probably tell, I just found too many weird job postings.

I'll tell you something that I sometimes struggle with--right before clicking the video to go live, I thought, "This was a mean episode. I didn't have to say those things, and this probably comes off as really ignorant." That's why the YouTube description is calling myself "strangely curious and wildly dumb," just to cut the edge off a little. So it's a funny thing having Delayed Input as my job, I just had to swallow my regrets and click the "Public" button because it's simply time for the video to go up.

And yeah, now there's also permanent evidence out there that I can't tell the difference between a crossword puzzle and a word search. The internet is dangerous thing to be a part of.

QUESTIONS FROM YOU!

You seem to have at least a passing interest in making music. Do you play any instruments? Any you'd like to learn?
I've made a couple songs for Delayed Input, and wrote a bunch of songs on Twitch last year. They're all extremely basic and mostly just fun. I can't play a single instrument but I do use the Rock Band 3 keytar (it has a midi out). For me it's just a clumsy process of trial and error; I've tried learning music a few times in my life and my brain never really fully grasps it.

Fun fact: The French word for behavior is comportement.
That is a fun fact.

Where are my lows to actually catch up with games?
If Marvel's Midnight Suns came out in July everyone would be talking about it, just a crazy fall right now.

How thrilled were you when you noticed that everyone was ripping the Bungie job posting? I feel like this must have made you think "Oh yeah baby. Now I have something juicy for the episode!"
Honestly I know it makes for good stuff, especially an opportunity to make fun of Midnight Society, but at the same time I really fear that I'm just missing something. Like 999 out of 1000 times you think you're the first person to notice or realize something, you're not. So there are lots of qualifiers in the script, like saying "I know this is not a controversy," and "Let me know if you find someone who had the job title earlier."

Has the meaning of crossword puzzle changed, have I always been out of the loop? I saw no comments or mention of this, maybe I am going crazy…
Unfortunately there are many comments that pointed out I got this wrong, and half of them are convinced it's another comedic bit and won't just accept that I'm dumb.

It should also be noted that Lars Bakken appears to be a German Shepherd, which makes his accomplishments all the more impressive.
Funny bit about that twitter image--I didn't realize until I was capturing that Lars Bakken follows me, and then I edited out the "Follows You" icon because I felt too awkward about it.

And that's it for today. Once more, I'll be out next week in LA. The episode we return with--808--will be the last of the season, so I feel like I need to cap off the skeleton shirt saga with something extra special. That said, it will likely not be extra special and probably just weird. I'd like to use my time back in LA to rediscover my roots in comedy and maybe figure out how to get a good joke into Delayed Input.

Comments

I'm late to the post here but I loved this episode. I thought the topic was really interesting and nothing came across as "mean" to me. Just really interesting content about a niche role of video game development that I would not have otherwise learned about.

Anybody else waiting with bated breath to see what Kyle has to say about Bill Clinton?
