Delayed Input 803 Post-Show Assessment

This was a weird episode. I sometimes talk about the ideas I didn't go with here on Patreon, but I realize this week we explicitly got, "This was almost a PSVR 2 episode, here's a quick bit, now onto the rest of the show."

Once I settled on God of War Ragnarok, there were still a lot of ways to go. For a long time I was working on a "My Wishes for Ragnarok" script, which, you know, is the type of video I've made many times before and can be fun and good. However, this one in particular wasn't working, mostly because:
1) it was a little too fussy I guess, sometimes I'm annoyed by myself too
2) we didn't cover this, but a lot of Ragnarok leaked. So here I was saying "I hope this happens, I hope this doesn't happen" and that can be a little risky when there are plenty of gremlins lurking about who already know everything.
So I went for a more emotional angle. It's not a highlight video for me but it's just where I was this week, which I guess makes it special in a way.

Generally recording a video where I'm not hitting specific jokes and just kind of speaking my thoughts goes pretty smoothly, but as you can see in the clip above there are still particular hang-ups. Sometimes I wonder what I would be like if I had broadcast training, like the people who can say "toy boat" 20 times fast without flinching.

QUESTIONS FROM YOU!

Have you considered that there is a skeleton inside you?
Yes I think about this a lot.

What sports podcasts do you listen to?
That Fantasy Footballers Podcast is my favorite. Very fun show, good personalities who clearly love just talking fantasy football and they put out 5 episodes a week.

What IS the last time you felt like this about an upcoming release?
For a second I almost made an episode about all the times I was really excited for a game to come out, and it kinda turned into a sad realization that most of those moments were simply happier times in my life. So I wasn't emotionally prepared to explore it. Most recently though--Spider-Man

Do skeletons have emotions?
Yeah

What’s kind of amazing is that maybe inadvertently or coincidentally, your “never better" shirt is a video game reference to Rapp Scallion in Monkey Island 2 - https://imgur.com/a/3gSgCGp
I just had to google what Monkey Island is, hopefully this is a coincidence

Do you feel like your modern videos are more disposable than your older stuff? If so, why the shift?
I kind of always felt this way--I'm embarrassed to go and look back at most of my videos. But I think it's comforting/freeing in a way too. I remember in college reading a Conan O'Brien interview where he plainly stated that even his biggest fans typically see 2 or 3 episodes a week. He thought of this show, which I considered brilliant and hilarious, as mostly disposable and it kind of framed things differently for me.

The hardest laugh you got out of me this time was "something a little nasty" getting its own Daily Show-style hovering title card. Was that a conscious inspiration or are you just doing what feels right?
I was thinking of not having any corner graphics for the episode but I also feared that when they're not there, it visually appears like I'm rambling. So yeah I just wrote "something a little nasty" on my to-do sticky note and that's what came out. I think it should be a recurring segment.

The point of the trampoline invite, as established earlier -is that at some point you become too old to invite friends over to play on it. you out grow it. right?
It was more about the economics, which I cut out a little. The idea of making software for exclusively rich kids is funny to me. But yeah not all kids can afford a trampoline, they're kinda meant to be shared. Not all people can play God of War next week, so you know, it's okay to use someone else's trampoline.

Is doughnut puzzle game this year's Bustafellows?
Yeah it's really under my skin at this point. I think I'm going to cave and play it some day.

That opening preamble about not wanting to talk about the week's "biggest" news felt like a bit of commentary on your time as a podcast host. Were you going for that or am I grasping at straws here?
That's a confirmed straw grasp. I really like talking about the week's biggest news, it's not a burden normally. But yeah sometimes I feel like the biggest news is actually uninteresting so I'm happy to skip

A score of 94 says “I’m not gonna hurt you” but I think I remember Bioshock Infinite hurting a few people.
Yeah that was definitely a weird time. It was like if you wanted to be a serious games appreciator you had to play and think about that game.

What would it take for you to grow a mustache? You've got the face shape for it. Maybe a charity stream stretch goal?
I would do it for a role in like a Mission Impossible movie but not for anything less

And that's it for today! Weird thing about this week's theme is I feel like I've spent God of War Ragnarok. Now it would be a really weird thing to bring it up next week too. Oh, Sonic. Let's do a Sonic thing. I'll start doing some Sonic research now, which unfortunately isn't going to leave much time for to figure out my first good joke but I'm willing to take this chance.

Comments

Your answer to my question is identical to my own answer to my question. Spider-Man was the last time this has happened. Very cool. God of War is going to be great. Looking forward to some Sonic takes, and lemme know where that Mission Impossible petition gets posted, when it gets posted.
