Delayed Input 802 Post-Show Assessment
Added 2022-10-30 20:53:10 +0000 UTCThis was a weird episode. I actually spent a really long time on that song, since it was important for me it to sound bad but also bad songs that are just outright bad usually aren't funny. You have to make it sound like you could believe someone thinks this is good. Not sure I succeeded in that, but it was fun to work on. I realized some of my favorite types of jokes to do are those that rely on imagination. It's like a monster movie, you fear the Shrek/Grinch rap more before you get to see it. In hindsight I think the gag would have worked better if I tried to return to the song throughout the episode itself, but that would have also railroaded the Gotham Knights conversation so I dunno it's hard to say which would have been better.
I wanted to ask you all how the audio sounds in the original post and totally forgot to. Last week I used my streaming microphone because I didn't want to clip a lav mic to the outside of a t-shirt, this week I taped a lav mic under my t-shirt. It worked better than I thought it would, but also there's a bit of audio repair I have to do anytime I move dramatically. Really, let me know how you feel about how this sounds.
This was one of those videos where I don't realize what it's about until the very end. This week's conclusion--that we're all in this position in our lives where we're too scared to recommend something--didn't occur to me until 4-8 takes into recording. Sometimes I'll nail the ending, and sometimes I'll think "This is really missing something, let's do another one." I'm happy it got somewhere but also probably would have rewritten everything from the top if I knew where it was going. But also I needed to make a Shrek/Grinch rap intro so you know, you have to pick your priorities.
QUESTIONS FROM YOU!
Hey, why don't you alternate between Shrek and the Honk, randomly?
We've evolved past Shrek, permanently!
If you had it over, would you have started a Patreon-backed show sooner? A lot of people were asking for that as soon as GT was defeated.
Not really, I mean I probably would have made Box Peek all over even. Delayed Input just arose to suit a specific time and need.
Lastly, what do you think of the sound design of Gotham Knights? Does combat feel as impactful and weighty as prior Batman games? Does the ambience of the city feel immersive or does it feel kind of lifeless?
Sound Design - really nice but now I mostly play with the volume off
Combat - honestly I wouldn't call Arkham games weighty. Zippy if anything. It's important to note that this one has numbers that pop up, sometimes really big numbers for critical hits, and that's all I really need in a combat system.
Ambience - it's a wonderful dirty nasty city, late last night I was kind of just skulking around admiring the architecture
The next delayed input needs to start with coconut kyle.
I'm actually not sure where a person could even buy a full coconut
If Shrek and/or The Grinch were playable characters in Gotham Knights, and they rapped at their opponents while mercilessly beating the shit out of them, would you still consider the game to be a bucket of chicken nuggets?
So if it's joke rapping I would really hate it. Like Epic Rap Battles where people comment, "This is funny but also kinda fire???" I really have no taste for that. If Shrek and the Grinch are really rapping, really speaking their truth, while also being fully playable characters in Gotham Knights, the game would be a 10 out of 10.
Can you share the link to stream FDFM?
I don't have Spotify so I had to listen to the free preview on iTunes.
That's it for today. Also officially canonically FDFM stands for For Donkey, For Max but we don't need to know that because we're absolutely never returning to that bit. By now I hope you are wondering, "Okay Halloween is over is he going to do the spiderwebs and skeleton shirts all season?" We all know the answer, but I was still hoping you're wondering. Some things get funnier to me the longer they go on, but I worry if that's the reason I struggle to put one good joke into Delayed Input.
Comments
I think it would be funny if you went with a fart noise instead of a honk, in one of these episodes. hear me out. I HATE fart jokes. but the way in which ... it is cheap indefensible bullshit is what would make it funny.
