Delayed Input 801 Post-Show Assessment

This was a weird episode. I talked a couple of times about how difficult it is to find the perfect backdrop right? This isn't the one. It's at least not the one I ordered, which is still traveling through the mail. This is a tablecloth I found at Party City on a last-minute backdrop search. The problem is a kinda like it. This might be the one that sticks. In a way it really is nice to have a backdrop again.

A funny thing about this week's episode--covering the big events from the Silent Hill and Resident Evil events--I thought I would do a more YouTubey play in making the title/setup a little spicier. The scoreboard is an obvious dumb joke (kind of a Marvel's Avengers reference actually but we shouldn't get into that) and then immediately after that I started speaking to my true appreciation that both events happened, but that was just too late. I still had Silent Hill fans/common decency fans upset in the comments that I would be up there improperly comparing the two. Honestly I'd probably still do the same thing all over again.

QUESTIONS FROM YOU!

What's the scoring system for Capcom v Konami?
It's just points attributed to whoever produces the most quality content for the world, and it resets every five years.

Do you have any positive takeaways from the new FF16 trailer? I found it really confusing.
I haven't heard anything good about it, so I'm skipping this one.

How long is too long for the honk bit to go on for? What’s the best way to sunset the honk bit? Is it best done at the conclusion of a season? Do you call attention to the end of the honk bit when it ends or does it just stop appearing?
You can't make plans for this kind of thing, you just have to be prepared for when the moment to sunset the honk is right. We'll all know it when it arrives.

Was surprised to hear that you're not interested in either franchise!  Are you not into horror in general?
Absolutely can't handle horror in movies or video games, but I still like to keep with how they're doing. And I've watched Mike Huber play through almost every single Resident Evil game, so I actually have a lot of exposure to the franchise.

Konami's CEO announced a total exit from console gaming back in 2015. How does it feel to see them getting back in?
Well it's weird because they've been re-releasing a lot of back catalogue stuff for a while with nice collections, and putting out weird new games like those Bomberman ones, so to me this really didn't feel like Wow Konami is back! at all. I think seeking out 3rd party developers to work on their franchises is a cool idea that I didn't really touch on in the video.

where did the one speck of glitter on your upper lip come from
It took me a long time to figure this out--it's a teeny tiny piece of gold plastic from a Gundam model I was building earlier this week, namely Hyaku Shiki. I still had little shards all over my desk and must have touched it to my face at some point.

What do you think of people who misuse the phrase "begs the question"?
Frankly they seem like people who want to appear intelligent without putting in the work to be an intelligent person. I'm happy to just sound dumb.

IMO, the mic sound isn't great this episode. Lacking dynamics, very talk radio sound. Great for an audio podcast, but feels off for a video presentation.
This is an interesting observation. I realized way too late that there was no spot for me to clip my regular microphone onto. Somehow I haven't actually worn just a t-shirt for any episode of Delayed Input so far. So hopefully I can figure something out before next week. I don't know about dynamics but I think it just sounded super fuzzy.

And that's it for today. Next week is the last episode before Halloween, and I want to do something fun for that but also don't want to force it in unnaturally. Hopefully we get some ghostly game announcement or vampiry studio acquisition or werewolfy remaster showcase or something. I saw on reddit that a spooky atmosphere is the perfect, most unexpected place to sneak in a funny joke, I hope that's true.

Comments

I don't think I've ever seen "Mike Huber" written out. It seems wrong.

I really enjoyed the set this week Kyle. I like the addition of the plant into the backdrop it feels really special. I like the mic as a foreground element, but I think it would need to be more central to keep a good frame composition.
