Delayed Input 707 Post-Show Assessment

This was a weird episode. (First off, I did have an outtake for this week where it's me doing 20 different versions of the rubbery muscle flexing noise but honestly it's kinda gross so it's better left unseen)

The hard part about writing this one was having too much to look at. I was happy to be able to get a couple of embarrassing Disney and Ubisoft clips in there at least. Pretty early in, it was apparent I should focus on Good Trailers, but then I accidentally also realized how much I hated that Fire Emblem trailer halfway through writing this. Sometimes I have to humor myself.

There was a weird moment when I was writing about the Rise of the Ronin trailer, and how I felt a few particularly exciting shots really brought the trailer to life. One of those shots is the main character stylishly blasting an enemy in the face with a rifle. Kyle watching this live thinks "aw cool." But then as I'm writing a script praising the shot, it's suddenly apparent how obscenely violent that image is. I thought, "okay maybe we don't play this over and over in slow motion." The script was too long at that point anyway, but it's probably the first time I cut something out due to extreme violence. Just an element of doing a video games show I guess.

Overall these are fun episodes to make, a stark contrast to last week's which was all script and zero video footage. Every time I make a Delayed Input full of "look at this moment, look at this part," it does tend to take almost double the time to edit. But it's also more fun to edit. I think the live action Assassin's Creed leapers are funnier than any of my jokes.

QUESTIONS FROM YOU!

What's the finest game trailer you've ever seen?  When you speak the words "oh i remember that part", what comes to mind almost every time?
One of my favorites is the 2nd Mario Odyssey trailer, which introduced the hat tossing mechanic. The first shot is a t-rex wearing Mario's hat, but you don't really understand the implication at that point. Then there's a beautiful escalation of unusual things to take control of, until near the end you see Mario throw the hat on that t-rex, and you're like, "OH." I think anyone who saw that trailer remembers the t-rex.

Curious what you made of "Master Detective Archives: Rain Code."
I think it actually looked really cool, it was a Nintendo Direct highlight for me. Honestly most mystery games kinda wear me out but I liked the apparent style of this one. Happy to see video games just go wild.

Would you ever take the wealth of trailer knowledge you've accumulated and make the ultimate delayed input trailer?
Shot variety would definitely be lacking. And I don't know if Delayed Input has had any Iconic Moments yet.

What are your thoughts on the breath of the wild 2 release date reveal?
This sounds like a question from someone who skipped the video but I'm still going to answer. I guess it's funny that the title and release date happened on the same day, as if they weren't willing to commit to one without the other. Just a long fancy way to say "It's real now." If we're talking about the specific date, it's later than I expected but May is actually a proper month for a GOTY drop, feels right.

And that's it for today. I don't expect any big news in the next four days so I might be combing back through the TGS stuff for something fun to talk about. GTA 6 leaks are kind of a big deal but also kind of not, you know? Whatever the case, it will be the season finale, so even though this was the "low-key season" hopefully it can be slightly special. We all know I've been struggling to develop Delayed Input's first good joke; I've been toying with the idea of doing the joke's setup as a cliffhanger so I have a good 3 weeks to come up with a punchline.

Comments

The entirety of "State of Play Report Card (Normal Episode)" is an Iconic Moment, IMO.

"GTA leaks are kind of a big deal but also kind of not, you know?" Pretty much. I got excited when I heard about the leaks, but after 30 seconds of video it just looked like GTA (not a bad thing, not reinventing the wheel and such)
