Delayed Input 704 Post-Show Assessment
Added 2022-08-28 19:47:37 +0000 UTCThis was a weird episode. Previously I wouldn't do this kind of Personal Experience video--it's much more about me than it is about video games. In a case like this week's though, it would have been weird to not talk about Gamescom ONL, and then my only excuse would be that I worked on it in a generally unspecific capacity. So I figured I'd just be specific for once.
But yeah I really had to work to convince myself this was a good idea. It was really close to just being the I Want One Piece Odyssey episode. The general response made me glad I put it together though. It's tough to find the balance between being entertainingly informative and revealing too much or becoming boring. Not sure I found that balance really but it was a fun, different kind of video anyway.
A weird thing popped up for the first time ever--the credits didn't render in the video's export. This means that while I actively updated them and watched them scroll by in every review, they're invisible in the final upload. Just a weird bug I haven't seen once before and will now double check for eternity. Obviously I feel really bad about it--those who pay for that Patreon tier are paying a lot of money--so I'll try to think of a creative way to make up for it next week.
QUESTIONS FROM YOU!
How did you earn the prestigious 21-Crayon Salute?
&
Why, and for how long, have you had the 21 Crayon Salute handy?
It's just a little end-of-year award my teacher gave me for being very good at art, and then clearly something my younger self was proud of. (still proud obv) I was looking for embarrassing material in my old art stacks leading up to a recent charity stream and briefly glanced at it, and then just thought of it again when I was writing about my elementary art skills. It just worked out.
What was meeting Hideo Kojima like?
It was super brief; we actually didn't talk much at all. Honestly I think I said "Thank you" and he said "thank you." 7 years later I still wish I did something funnier/smarter with that opportunity.
How does Cologne, Germany smell?
I think this is a joke setup but to my nostrils it just smelled Plain.
If you were offered to do this kind of thing more frequently, to the extent that it would intrude upon your ability to do YouTube and twitch, how would you approach that decision?
I probably would not. I think the occasional nature of these things is what keeps them exciting/not too stressful.
Was there an awkward conversation with Geoff about why you were taking his card home or did you just sneak it out?
I always sneak one card out, it's a professional habit. They're nice to use as references.
Did Geoff ask for you specifically to announce him?
I try not to gas myself up too much about it; I think I'm just a logistically convenient announcer.
Did you get to see or interact with Aonuma and Fujibayashi backstage at the 2017 Game Awards?
For most Game Awards, I'm usually lurking around by that circular side stage where the interviews happen so I don't get a lot of backstage action. Even when the opportunity is there it's very rare that I interact with guests--I don't want to step out of bounds in my role as a crew member. But also I guess in general I don't talk to any person I don't need to.
And that's it for today. I'm finally feeling something close to normal again here in my 4th day back in the US. And I'm running out of flannel shirts! The one I had picked for this week got too small (I got too big), it was doing that thing where it's stretching out at the buttons, visibly uncomfortable. So yeah I'm going to order some new shirts and also I heard they sell books with jokes in em, might look into that too.
