Post-Alien Goggles Assessment

This was a weird video. I always get a little nervous writing about the ideas I decided not to do because you might be disappointed, but this one went on a real journey of simplification.

So I was pretty sure I'd make a video out of these goggles from the moment I picked them up. My first thought, there in the Target board game aisle, was it would be this kind of horror sketch where I became obsessed with the invisible aliens, not being able to fall asleep without the goggles on. Couldn't come up with a funny ending though.

Then I had this idea I was running with where I would draw the aliens and superimpose them into the goggles. The challenge of level 2 was going to be a sexy gross alien like Sy Snootles that tries to seduce you.
"Hey, big boy."
"Whoa momma!"
You know the whole bit from there. It would have made a solid video.

But I was thinking about what I wrote in the last post here, about trying to find honesty in the videos, and the truth is the reason I picked this thing off the shelf is that I am genuinely curious about this dumb toy. There was a sincere mystery to these goggles for me. That became my focus--wouldn't it be fun if I just played this straight and presented the goggles exactly as they are. There was even a sarcastic review score bit at the end that I cut, seemed contradictory to the point of the whole thing.

I'm not sure what to think of the end result--it's not a popular video in views, but I think it really did something for a lot of people in the comments. So it's this kinda weird thing you either connect to or you don't. Definitely a good change of pace between Delayed Inputs anyway, worth it to play around with the format.

QUESTIONS FROM YOU!

Is there any chance that the hard mode requires wrist aiming? / I wonder if the game got better with higher difficulty levels
The aliens can't harm you. They either disappear because they run away or disappear because you blasted them. I don't care how hard this gets.

How many carrots have you eaten since filming?
Zero, and lots of candy. I defeated the aliens.

So what will happen with this toy now?
We don't know when or why, but we all know it's going to become a Delayed Input prop as some point.

Do you often feel like you can relax during these breaks between seasons?
It's funny, I kinda stack up the off weeks with side projects and things I've been putting off, so they don't usually end up much less stressful than a regular week. Still I think they're good refreshers for the sake of Delayed Input and getting this sort of mental reset. It's really all designed to prevent getting burned out and so far it's a healthy balance.

How long did you have to sit there before Mucho got up and left?
None of that shot was faked, not even the sound effects. As some YouTube comments suggest, Mucho just has an innate gift for comedic timing.

What do you think of the new Arcade Fire album?
I've only listened once through on a coffee walk but already loving it. It's really nice to have a band I liked in college still making impactful music.

May 20 is my birthday. Could you please tell a good joke for my birthday?
This is the motivation I needed. I'm gonna think of one good joke, I'm sure of it now.

See you again on the 20th!

Dude, that initial sketch idea is super solid. It would be tricky to do it justice without the TV level production, but I can see it working so perfectly in something like Whitest Kids U'Know. Lot of potential to go off the rails with it.

I loved this video! Like you said, you should have known better, but thanks for taking us on the journey with you. Great work blasting those sea creatures down!! The ending was perfect, I laughed when the credits started rolling. Mucho leaving at that moment was amazing, and I love that someone asked how long you had to sit there. My kids have had some pretty similar experiences with disappointing toys. To go from the excitement of unwrapping a present and the anticipation of trying out the toy that looks awesome on the box to the sad reality is pretty brutal to watch. Same when it happens to you (not that your expectations were all that high). But to be able to keep hoping is what it's all about, and to turn it into something that makes other people laugh is a pretty cool gift. Have a great week!
