Delayed Input 508 Post-Show Assessment
Added 2022-04-24 21:03:53 +0000 UTCThis was a weird episode. I've been consistently wishing to make some sort of gimmick episode all season, and then nothing naturally popped up. So this was going to be it, the on-screen debut of PINCH (the guy that appeared suddenly in my contacts after I recombined the split timelines at the end of last season). I'm still not sure why exactly, but after picking out PINCH's wig late at night, shortly before it was time to record, I thought, "this whole bit kinda sucks." I binned it.
The Sonic Origins chart was a much smaller part of the PINCH episode, and in the process of scrapping the script I found there was some good potential with that whole chart. After that it was a relatively quick writing process, quick shoot, and unexpectedly kinda lengthy edit. And overall I kinda like the ep. An ironic reality about the Infinite Content bit is that it was probably the lowest-effort bonus bit I've thought of yet.
This week's pivot clarifies a goal I've got for Delayed Input--I'm wanting to make videos that feel more honest. More natural maybe? I still obviously want to do weird bits and dumb jokes, but I feel like even today Delayed Input carries this kind of generally-accepted YouTubey artifice. I'd like to experiment with doing a script that's just bullet points, or doing a strictly scripted episode that never features a person looking into the camera and talking to it, I definitely want to change the backdrop. So yeah I think there's a lot to play around with still. I'm not quite to the point where I think I'm making great videos, but I'm happy to keep playing around and figuring it out.
QUESTIONS FROM YOU!
Were you excited to get another example of Sonic Inflation again so quickly after the first one?
I honestly didn't realize it was a weird Internet Thing until the comments last week, but yes I had to lean into it this week.
Is it possible to kill the car horn bit next season?
I predict that the car horn bit will be supplanted at some point next season but who could possibly guess what'll replace it.
When you started, you committed to at least one year of Delayed Input, so with that promise fulfilled, can we expect another year-long commitment?
No full-year commitment this time, just a statement that I don't plan to stop anytime soon.
Where've you been getting the shirts for Season 5?
That polo is marvoules! What brand is it?
The first 6 were results from typing "floral polo" on Amazon. The last two were from a website called Shein, again just searching for floral polos. I was getting scared people were going to start to predict which shirt I'd be wearing the next week.
Do you plan to spend 40$ or 45$ on sonic origins?
I should probably spend the extra 5 because it'll make for good streaming material.
Is Woopty Doo secretly a Pokemon? They just repeat their name in response to everything and it is making me suspicious.
Woopty Doo was a super quick idea that incidentally became one of my favorite bits of the whole season. And yeah I think if he says anything other than "woopty doo" the character is dead.
Just a quick correction: Mirror Mode Toad's Turnpike in Mario Kart 64 is the best track in the series.
This seems unlikely but I hate MK64 too much to go check.
Can I get some lore explanation on your relationship with Infinite Content?
Arcade Fire is one of my favorite bands. They're the kind of band where I love their bad songs too. Everyone, even their biggest fans, seem to make fun of this repetitive, doofy song "Infinite Content" from their most recent album. But I think I kinda like it? Not positive but I think it's speaking to some sort of truth
Now that you're at the one year mark of Delayed Input, do you have any more clarity on what The Dream is for you?
Yeah it's weird, criticizing and praising things each week forces one to articulate the things they really appreciate. I think I'm figuring it out. And I think Delayed Input is making me better little by little each week. Ultra slow development, like my Cloud arms.
Looking back over a year of Delayed Input and different fashion choices, do you have a favorite season or a single favorite item?
There's a grey and pink sweatshirt from the tie-die season that I genuinely like. The shirt with the birds on it from this week is an absolute keeper. But we're all joking if we're pretending the denim arc wasn't the best one.
And that's it for today. I'll be back in two weeks with hopefully a weird-yet-honest experimental video. If we're following trends however, there's going to be some surprise dumb big time gaming event that will make great material for a Hot Takeaways video. Whichever the case, it's nice to breathe outside of the Delayed Input format for a moment. Gives me a chance to play around and maybe forge a path toward one good joke.
Comments
The car horn is gold. Managing to pull off such a risky bit is the best kind of flex. Every time my reaction is that perfect blend of "fuck you" and "that's hilarious".
