Delayed Input 507 Post-Show Assessment

This was a weird episode. Seven days ago I was here, uncertain of what my Kingdom Hearts IV take really was. And I feel like this ep was secretly about that--none of these thoughts alone are worth their own video, but hey, here's what I got. I had a real fear as I published this week that maybe I was retreading a lot of thoughts that dozens of content creators already broadcast in their own videos, streams, and podcasts all week long. I was basically feeling basic, like my perspective might not be unique enough this time. So maybe that's why there's weird stuff like me riffing in a rough theatrical British accent while almost taking a sip of coffee the whole time.

I am slightly disturbed that there is not a single comment--not on here, not on YouTube--about that shot of a Batman action figure holding a grappling hook in one hand and a little paper Kaitlin in the other. This could either mean that the shot was too brief to register, or simply that I'm the only one who cares about Kaitlin lore. Either way I refuse to back down on this.

Production Update: I got to a point where I felt like my Edge home page was absolutely trolling me. Look at this:

Keep in mind I absolutely did not click on that last headline about Young Sheldon. Their algorithm just has me pegged as the kind of person who would probably appreciate a Young Sheldon mystery. Thanks to a comment here on Patreon, I have now finally changed my homepage to no longer include these tantalizing distractions.

QUESTIONS FROM YOU!

What do you think are the unwritten comedy rules that should be followed or that should be flexible? For instance, always punch up, be self-deprecating, no anthropology jokes, etc.
I think "don't punch down" is more important than "always punch up," because there's a lot of times I'm doing something weird and really nobody's getting punched. One rule I learned doing standup in college is "Never apologize for being bad"--for some reason it's one of the fastest ways to lose your audience. So you'll notice that even when I call my own bad jokes stinkers, I'll still own up to it. I regret every Shrek joke, but I'm not sorry.

What would your Nobody be called?
Episode 303 had Lyxek, but it turned out he was my Adult Self and not necessarily a Nobody. So I guess we presume my Nobody would be named Sambonx.

Is it good that the Sonic movies explicitly treat James Marsden as Sonic's dad?
Extremely good, yes.

What major video game franchise protagonist would *not* be improved with the addition of a grappling hook?
This feels like a good reddit joke prompt. My answer is Goku.

You seem to have a Dan Harmon-esque aversion to repeating your past work, or falling into tropes/ruts without acknowledging it on camera. Do you agree? And is this a good thing creatively or a potentially paralyzing thing?
I guess it ties into my fear mentioned above of coming off as Too Basic. If I'm making simple samey content you could find anywhere else I really don't feel like I'm providing anything.

What's a place you don't want to see sora go?
I'm afraid that if Sora went to Treasure Planet or Atlantis it would embolden the weird fans who think those are good movies.

Have you drawn a Sonic oc? Will you? If not, how can we please convince you to?
I had a friend in high school who started on this path, and her garish drawings of new Sonic characters were almost repulsive to me? Anyway she actually became a really good artist in a couple years, so I was humbled into appreciating that everyone starts somewhere.
My answer is No, I never have drawn a Sonic OC, and I would have to lose or bet or tie it into a charity goal to do one.

What's your preferred hot beverage of choice?
Almost always: black coffee
Sometimes: hot chocolate

And that's it for today. Next week's episode will be the finale of Season 5. Hard to say at this point whether it will have Season Finale vibes or Regular Episode vibes, but I feel like we've had a lot of Regular Episodes this whole season. And maybe this is just good conditioning. You get the audience used to regular episode after regular episode, and then bam, you hit them with a good joke out of nowhere. One can only dream.

Comments

The shot of Batman was too quick, I registered the figure but not Kaitlyn. Asking about the figure (did you buy it specifically for that shot) was also my backup question to the Nobody name one, I was caught up in KH hype tho
