Delayed Input 504 Post-Show Assessment
Added 2022-03-27 23:35:16 +0000 UTCThis was a weird one. It took me an extra long time to figure out what this video was about, stuck in an unfun funk for longer than usual. The decision to wear my glasses was simply that I started recording so late that I was attempting to mask my tired eyes a little. It wasn't the best ep, but it feels kind of nice to pull it off on a week with no news, kind of generating something from loose thoughts.
The launching off point for me was this feeling I had more to say about Shrek than I did last week. Or really, I could have done that whole Shrek bit about Kratos instead. But I guess it's a reinforcement that sometimes I can just make a video about whatever is bouncing around my head still. And it look's like next week's subject is pretty much locked in already.
Tidbits from this week:
- I thought I had already made fun of Redfall extensively and had to search all my google docs for any references, turns out I just mentioned it in passing a couple seasons ago. Still I really feel like I roasted this before? Maybe it's just that kind of game.
- So this is really weird, but the Xbox One premiere is archived in chunks on the Xbox YouTube channel. The Stephen Spielberg bit was cut from the Halo TV portion, they just clap for him and then there's an awkward cut. When I finally found it I was pretty stoked how well his lips lined up with what I was saying. He really was up there talking about Pong.
- To generate the list of Modern/Not Modern characters I had to look at a list of upcoming games in 2022. There's no way I would remember something like Gollum otherwise. So that came down to looking at these titles and trying to figure out if there's a fun angle on their lead characters. I liked that bit though, it reminded me of the sort of thing I would do for the podcast on a slow week.
- I did a slight little popping in animation on the "Modern or Not Modern" segment title reveal. It's nothing special but sometimes I gotta do little fun things for myself.
QUESTIONS FROM YOU!
What platform are you playing Elden Ring on? I'm still waiting for them to patch ANY version to run well, since I've gotten sensitive to stutters.
I'm playing the PS4 version on PS5 since I read that it's the best frame rate option, but I really don't think it's super super bad on any platform.
Why does this fit suit you so well?
I'm not sure, but I think the glasses really help out the polos
"Modernity" is a weird one.
I realize now that I typed out "moderninity" and failed to notice that google did that thing where it autocorrects the word immediately. So I learned a new word this week.
Hey Kyle, would you ever consider making a video about your friend Pinch and the YouTube algorithm?
It's a weird thing, generally I don't care about YouTube views and at the same time inside I somehow still care about YouTube views. One thing I know I don't like is when YouTubers talk about their viewership though, I guess that was kind of the bit. I really hope PINCH never appears on the show.
What are your go-to games/movies/shows/foods when you get sick?
This will sound weird but I find TV with commercials strangely comforting. I recently found that BET was playing Fresh Prince of Bel Air all night long and it was like, "Yes, this is exactly what I'm looking for." I could probably watch every episode without ads on a streaming service, but I don't know, I like the familiar flow of late night ad breaks.
Give me a total blank slate of a protagonist and keep the character motivation contextual. Do you feel characters like Samus/Link are ahead of their time in this regard?
Yeah I saw some comments on YouTube that are like "you're describing Gordon Freeman/Doomguy" and it's funny that while silent protagonists feel like a dated concept, they do still age the best. Some games don't really have the option though, so it's not like Doomguy or Samus would work better in Forbidden West necessarily.
And that's it for today. At the end of last week's post I was fearing the looming cloud of the PlayStation streaming service announcements and it's now fairly apparent, if you listen to the Bloombergian whispers in the wind, this will be the week. My goal is to find a take that isn't too cynical, that still feels fun despite my general disinterest in another monthly subscription. And really the worst part about all this is that next Friday is April Fool's Day, the funniest day of the year, and I was thinking this was my big chance at finally getting one good joke in Delayed Input
Comments
I get it about watching a show on a channel with ad breaks vs. watching on streaming, it's almost like the ads give a feeling that you're connected to anyone else who might be watching at the time time. Like a shared viewing experience. Streaming (or even DVDs) feels more isolated. Don't stress too much about the Playstation announcement. You'll find a funny angle, or if not, you'll do something else that's funny. We're here for it no matter what you decide to talk about :)
2022-03-29 15:04:34 +0000 UTCKyle, bro, every episode you put out is a highlight to my week, even if you think it’s crap. So, keep it up. Because I do crap all the time and people think it’s great. It works out. Just shout out bc I’m not active in the community that much, but I’ve been there when the first Final Bosman aired. Glad you never brought that back because I don’t think this show would be what it is if you’d…I dunno, like, crapped it out. Lots of crap talk. I usually don’t work blue. Anyway, you’re an inspiration and I’m very happy to support you and keep on doing your thing, because if you quit tomorrow, I’d like, miss your stuff dude.
