Delayed Input 703 Post-Show Assessment

This was a weird episode. You can kind of tell I was writing a few things before sticking a couple THQ observations into the middle of a Kirby discussion. (There was also an idea for "Kyle's Gamescom Dreams" before I realized how insane it is to make predictions I know most of the answers to) But anyway in this case I think the Kirby thoughts and the THQ thoughts actually kind of work as the same topic. 

On a stream recently, someone asked me if I'd ever hand off the Delayed Input edits to a hired editor or if I'm still in it for the experience. And yeah, for me the edits are still fun and I'm still getting a lot out of it. For this ep in particular, I had that weird line about Kaitlin stowing away in the Justice League space station right. In the script it's just a throwaway line, like "I don't have anything good here, I'll figure this out later." During recording I was thinking, "Oh it would be really funny to put laughter and applause here, that would be the perfect button to this whole thing." And then in the edit you get to see that dumb scheme come together. I actually had to use 3 layers of laughs and 2 layers of applause to get the full scale of audience noise I was looking for. But that stuff is really fun. I didn't find the perfect funny joke but I think I found a good way to end a fairly thematically fuzzy video, and I really enjoy that process.

Do you ever wonder if some day you'll look back and resent that most of your public appearances in this era feature you wearing something unflattering?
There's almost no chance of that happening. Well, I did regret the space & overalls almost immediately. But otherwise no regrets, not ever.

What’s your favorite Kirby game?
I think I had to rank them after I finished Forgotten Land. It goes

I found myself feeling sorry for Kirby, like he deserves more. But does he?
No. Kirby has been given so much in this life, he should just be grateful for all that he has.

Did you have any other endings for Box Peek you were toying with before you landed on the one we see in the show? If so, what were some of the differences?
There was a moment when I thought maybe the show would become mostly about Victor's character as it went on, but then honestly I had the idea for the final ending pretty early and built everything else around that. There was once a long scene where Denise had to travel to The Law's scary giant futuristic cave to report on her errors, but the notes back on that scene was that it was actually too jarring considering the show's tone/message, so that whole thing just became a quick bonus MGS-reference bit.

What's it going to take for us to see Schluffe at Gamescom?
Schlüffe was canonically murdered by the German Nintendo Fanboy Mafia, I don't know what to tell you.

Are you still feeling good about multiverse?
If this was a typo for Multiversus, still really good. Not "buying the season pass" good but yeah I think it's going to still be a cool game one year from now. I've been sneaking in matches here and there.
If you're just talking about the concept of a multiverse, No I just hate it.

I believe next week's episode will still go online at around our normal time; it will really just depend on how nasty the jet leg is. I do hope to use this opportunity of multicultural exposure to discover the secret to writing one good joke. Surely the Germans can teach me.
