Delayed Input 701 Post-Show Assessment
Added 2022-08-07 20:05:23 +0000 UTCThis was a weird episode. To immediately address a lot of your comments, I have to talk about the controversial decision to pack up the iconic school photo backdrop and just present my office as it is. It's something I was thinking about at the end of last season. Throughout the edits I guess I watch more Delayed Input than anyone in the world, and I just really got sick of how that shot looked. I've talked here about how I wanted the shot to have more depth, and it's a little tricky to squish depth into that space.
So I don't know, I felt like the show was both overproduced and super low-budget. This season I want to try out a more genuine, low-key vibe, which is also why I scaled back on the music. (I almost didn't include the upper-left images, but those are just kinda nice chapter markers as a viewer) This week I glanced at the shirt I picked out for PINCH, a character I was building up to for a long time, and I was just like "Whoa, I have absolutely zero desire to do that bit." I just mean to say that my plans and goals for Delayed Input are constantly shifting; I can't really predict what I want to present.
One thing I'd like to do each week is add to or modify the office each ep as its own superficial through line. I saw an insanely good suggestion for an office addition here in the Patreon comments, if you've got more of those I'll take em.
As for the script this week, it took a long time to decide to just make a short little sweetie. I was working for a while on an episode that was me telling Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo what their next corporate-multiversal Games As A Service should be. It really had this "Let me tell ya how it is" voice that I wasn't vibing with. But one super good idea I had for Sony was, with this idea of having everyone adapt to a universal art style, having the upcoming Last of Us multiplayer game actually just incorporate all of Sony's IP. "Realistic gritty Sly Cooper, realistic creepy Sackboy, realistic horny Blasto." I legitimately think this is a great idea.
QUESTIONS FROM YOU!
How deep were you before you realised you'd got it wrong on the death flare thing?
love when you get things wrong and do a big self-correction in the edit, it's kind of illuminating in its own way. How do you feel about doing them? Are you embarrassed about the error, or happy to add to the video in that way, or a bit of both?
So this one was dumb because I was writing this script, I stopped and said, "wait what if I have this wrong?" I booted up MultiVersus to test out my death pops but obviously I only tested self destructs.
I didn't realize how wrong it was until I was gathering b-roll, which I don't do until after the initial edit is done. If the episode was 6 Nice Things, I might have considered just chopping this one out, but with 3 Nice Things I basically wouldn't have enough of a video left if I cut that part. And to be honest I kinda liked the point of how empowering it is to control your own death explosion, even if it wasn't true in this case. I think these mid-edit updates kind of make a video feel more exciting in a way too. I do think the change in microphone quality is a little abrupt.
How could you not mention that the new Pokemon game is your favourite genre of game: a game about first years
I shuddered when they showed the classroom but that seems like just the first 2-3 minutes of the game right
Does the success of Multiversus bring us any closer to the release of Disney Princess Melee?
When you imagine this game, does Ariel have her nerfed leg form, or does she just float around with an orb of water? I don't think you're thinking this through.
Did you like any part of the Scarlet/Violet presentation?
Yeah I loved that they went out of their way to tell us the game has 3 concurrent campaigns that you can kindle take on in any order you like.
In a year from now, do you see yourself competing in the MultiVersus tournament at EVO 2023?
The truth is I have zero clutch factor; I'm just not built for professional competition.
That's it for today. I want to say thanks for all the comments on this week's changes, positive and negative. As always I want to encourage all kinds of feedback; it's part of how this thing flows and grows. As for next week, I'm honestly hoping for something to make fun of so I don't have to come up with nice things again. And while I've struggled so far to come up with a good joke, I think if I could implement PINCH back into the show we could really create some laughs.
Comments
lol I didn't noticed the backdrop change.

It's an interesting backdrop that doesn't take away or distract from what you're talking about, but is more interesting than a screen ( that you probably paid a lot for) Honestly, I think it's your best setup that you've ever had since FB
