Baby Kyle's Revenge Assessment
Added 2022-07-24 19:37:50 +0000 UTCThis was a weird video.
Two weeks ago I said I had two ideas for my inbetweener. These were:
- My takeaways from One Piece, presuming I'd be caught up by now (I absolutely am not)
- A short little video where I underhandedly triumph over Little Nemo for the sake of inner child revenge.
Here we can once again see my failings as a planner. And for some reason I believed I would beat the game quickly, edit quickly, get down to our usual 10-minute runtime, and then get to bed at a normal hour. It is worth saying that while editing 3.5 hours of game footage took a lot longer than a normal Delayed Input, it wasn't necessarily harder. There weren't any alternate takes and everything was linear, it was just about plucking highlights and necessary connectors. There are some parts that could have used more care and attention, but with the scale of the video it didn't make too much sense to drill into a 3-second bit.
One weird takeaway is that I was super upset about the audio in this one--I really thought the game sounded too loud and crunchy--and yet nobody commented on it. Sincerely I almost didn't post the video public because I was so embarrassed about it. Kinda wild how I still can get caught up in my own bubble all the time.
An interesting question after this video is: Do we do it again?
The comments here and on YouTube are generally nice and positive. It's also the lowest-viewed video I've put up on the channel. These are my questions, I'm open to any theories from you as well:
- Should I have put my face in the thumbnail?
- Would a 10-minute edit have performed better?
- Is Baby Kyle's Revenge just a truly bad title?
But yeah that's what's nice about these inbetweeners--it's just a chance to try out something new, and there's no big pressure on it since the Regular Format is around the corner. At the very least I finally got to see the end of Little Nemo.
QUESTIONS FROM YOU!
Do you have a running list of games you want to go back to so that you can avenge younger Kyle?
I do! In my head. I should write it out somewhere. I bought another NES game at the same time as Little Nemo, another one I thought was awesome and never got past the second level.
I'm sorry for enjoying 40 minutes of you suffering as much as i do
I get it 100%. The parts where I'm doing good aren't as funny and I usually cut those out.
Kyle are you a let’s player now?
Always have been
Who was Ethan Hansen? You know, the Final Bosman lore expert. I'm guessing a friend of someone at GT.
He was a friend of mine! That was Ben Greene, a fellow sketch writer at UCB. In hindsight it was really funny to create a lore expert who picked up on the narrative clues that people actually weren't caring about. It was my way of filling in the wiki that didn't exist. Anyway Ben was super down to do it, I think that turned into a good bit.
And that's it for today. Delayed Input will be back in just two weeks. I've already committed to my seasonal fashion choice, which, be prepared, is a little basic. It's the correction that needed to be made after the suspenders and space arc. I'm also going to the library and checking out some books on how to write jokes.
Comments
Yeah video could be shorter. And yes, the name was too weird. I thought it was going to be some kind of take on Baby Mario. I still enjoyed the video.

I think the runtime might keep people away in general, rather than the type of content, but I wouldn't view that as a sign that it's worse received. Also it's unfortunate how much stock YouTube puts in Retention Rate these days, as sometimes people ingest longer vids in multiple sessions..
