Delayed Input 608 Post-Show Assessment
Added 2022-07-10 21:16:27 +0000 UTCThis was a weird episode. Something I was working on for a while was a kinda fun idea--it was 2022's remaining big matchups. I had Marvel's Midnight Suns VS Gotham Knights for lowered-expectation super hero games, Plague Tale Requiem VS The Callisto Protocol for potential breakout hit, things like that. Strangely I was just getting annoyed with myself with that script, manufacturing narratives I guess. Draymond Green would think it was Old Media. So, in deciding to just talk about what actually happened this week, I focused in on the silliest of the matchups, Skull and Bones VS God of War Ragnarok.
I'd like to talk about the word resubmerged, which I said out loud. As I was editing, I was like "obviously you mean resurfaced!!" and I looked for another take and none existed. When I was recording, I really thought I nailed that one in one take. And then also it's not a word you naturally clip out of a sentence, and believe me I tried. So I just put up some footage of boats fighting and hoped no one would realize, when in fact many did. And the worst part of all this is I was looking back at the script today to prove to you that I meant "resurfaced," but I did in fact write "resubmerged" as if it was some clever wordplay. -__-
A strange thing I'm going to try to work on next season is having a more smiley presence. When I'm trying to grab a good still for the youtube thumbnail, I'm scrubbing through the whole video looking for a nice expression and I'm really just putting on this scowl for 99% of the duration. (there are some smug grins, which I absolutely refuse to turn into thumbnails) I think subconsciously I'm trying to come off more sincere, but I wonder if there was an overcorrection there where it looks like I'm actively trying not to have fun. But also that could just be how I look when I'm talking? Lots to explore there.
QUESTIONS FROM YOU!
For some reason I didn't notice this was 60fps until the credits started rolling. Looks like your camera is recording at 30 still. Those are some smooth credits, though!
I actually switched to 60fps back when I did that video with the game about the monkey who turns into a caveman. I kind of like talking heads at 30fps, but I'm willing to give 60 a shot for the in-between video in two weeks.
What's one of the bonus bits you've done that you're most proud of? I think the Star Fighter one is S tier bonus bit material.
Star Fighter means you're counting all the way back to Final Bosman, in which case it would probably be this one:

If we're talking Delayed Input, probably Pixie Paw or the tub-popping witch sisters.
Switch Pro this year sounds like a good bet against chat ๐
I'm trying to grow and not make dumb bets anymore and you keep pulling me back in.
So weโre not getting a sexy special S6E9?
What is sexy about those numbers? Someone will have to explain this to me.
What was your process of learning how to edit? When did you start editing your own stuff? Do you consider it a skill on its own that you're developing or is it all just in service of what you consider your Main Work?
I first learned to edit forever ago in an internship at the commercial department of my local Fox TV station. That was really cool. Then I edited the short series I wrote and produced my senior year of college, that was mostly just self-teaching and poking around. Then 8 years of basically editing nothing, before getting going again with the short-lived Bosman at Home series. I actually learned a lot in the GameTrailers days because I'd be checking through videos intimately with the pro editors; in hindsight that was super helpful experience.
I think Editing is really a few skills though. General flow/pacing/making jokes work is the one I think I'm still developing the most, while "making things look and sound professional" is probably still my biggest weakness.
When did the "Honk" become a "Fuck!" - or has that been the case since its first episode?
The honk has no direct translation in the English language.
Have you ever considered uploading highlights from your twitch streams during the off-weeks, or even during regular weeks? A lot of other channels are doing it, and I think it would be good content for people like me who don't have time to keep up with the twitch streams.
It's a good question. So far I've thought of this more as running a Show than running a YouTube Channel. But you're right in that people would probably be into it.
And that's it for today. I'll be back in 2 weeks with the in-betweener video. I have two ideas I'd like to try, both are pretty low-key but we'll see what turns out. I've been thinking about some bigger changes for next Delayed Input season and might take the opportunity to test it out. I think it might be nice if Delayed Input has good jokes.
Comments
LTTP (I blame Patreon), but this season was amazing as always. I actually saw a Fruity Pebbles candy bar at a grocery store on Sunday, but I didn't buy it. I don't think my stomach could handle it
