Delayed Input 406 Post-Show Assessment
Added 2022-01-23 21:21:34 +0000 UTCThis was a weird episode. Here's the last part of last week's post:
"It's a little crazy to me we're about to be six episodes into the season without a big new game announcement or leak. You want to have those news drops where people are thinking "ooh boy I can't wait to see what old Bossy's got to say about this one!" I'm hoping for one of those this week."
So this is kind of being cosmically ungrateful, but I didn't mean big news like THIS. Give me a goofy game trailer with a bunch of dumb looking characters and I can go off, but this historical Microsoft acquisition was just straight business. I've learned through years of doing this type of thing that I'm regularly completely unqualified to talk business.
It was kind of a stressful headachy week; I knew what I had to talk about but wasn't sure what I could actually add to the conversation. I don't normally dig into the discourse too much but this week I spent a lot of time delving into a bunch of other peoples' takes, just trying to figure out the general consensus on this sort of thing. It helped me figure out what I'm ignorant about but also get a general idea for what hasn't been covered yet.
In the end I kind of liked this one. There are some weird editing decisions that I actually woke up regretting the next day, but I think overall breaking down just the announcement post allowed for an organized flow to kind of explore the whole thing. That said I'd love to keep making episodes about video games and not as much video games business.
QUESTIONS FROM YOU!
Since these are coming out so late now, have you considered filming on a Thursday and editing on a Friday for a Friday evening release instead?
The late night edits have definitely become a worsening problem this season, but also in a sick way I think I secretly enjoy these chilled-out early AM spurts of focus and productivity. Ideally I just want to get a little better at getting the edits out at 1am instead of 8am. I thought this week's edit would be bam-bam-bam simple but there turned out to be a lot of visual elements despite it being a mostly dry subject.
Did you consider not covering this in this week’s episode? What could have convinced you to do an episode about something else instead?
I never really considered anything else, it sort of felt like a duty or responsibility. Even if there was a huge new Digimon musical violence game announcement I probably would have still talked about Microsoft/Activision Blizzard for half the episode.
That's all for now. I had a slightly abstract idea I was mulling over before Tuesday's news dropped, so I at least have another backup episode leading into this week. I honestly haven't figured out what's funny/entertaining about the point I want to make though. Really all I care about is finding a theme that will open the door for accomplishing my new year's resolution of creating one funny joke.

I think this is the strongest delayed input so far. You say you are not good at talking business or don’t want to talk business (and of course you should continue doing what you want with the series), but consider that you actually seem uniquely talented at talking about this side of the industry in an insightful and engaging way, and you’ve been doing it for a long time. I would love to see more of it!
