Delayed Input 404 Post-Show Assessment
Added 2022-01-09 21:13:49 +0000 UTCThis was a weird episode. 2022's Delicious Mysteries is a fun title that I'm not sure I lived up to. What's disappointing about the ep to me is that if I started with that title I could have made something more playful and maybe more honest to the premise. Instead of going title first, I was just writing down a bunch of loose thoughts for 2022 games, like "what's the deal with Starfield?" So once I had a bunch of things on the page, I was looking at doing "Most Anticipated/Least Anticipated" or "Burning Questions" like I did for E3, and then finally "Delicious Mysteries," which I thought was just a fun phrase. So it was concept after notes, where concept first would have maybe been more fun.
I had a fun editing challenge this week. So I got this new haircut right, and it looked fine in the mirror. Watching my footage, I see this:

What kind of human hairdo even does this. Obviously I'm not too precious about my looks on this show; this season's fashion theme basically enforces that. There is however a certain level where something becomes distractingly ugly. No judgment on the audience here, anyone on Earth would have a hard time listening to a person with this nasty puppy tail drooping off the back of their head. So every time I looked to my left, which as we've covered before I do frequently out of habit, I had to cover it with game footage, cut away before the sentence ends, or just toss the take entirely. This is what Delayed Input is about, I learn more every week.
Also I wasn't aware Mucho peeked into the shot until I was editing, that was an actual fun surprise.
QUESTIONS FROM YOU!
Was Cryoganal the first and only take or is there 897 others?
First take. I actually pulled up a Pokedex and searched for a Pokemon's name I thought would be funny. Cryogonal is just a bad funny name.
If you had to describe this episode in one word what would it be?
Strained
Do you live in constant anxiety of forgetting to sing “this iiiiiis” in a video?
I only feel obligated to include Shrek for the people who are really looking for him. This week I obviously remembered Shrek late and just sort of made a joke of it. I also couldn't think of a simple image to represent acquisitions.
No matter how impractical, what would be an example of an original game mechanic starfield could have?
The only way to defeat the robots is make them feel guilt.
I died at the “it’s a new year 🎶” bit lol, how long have you been waiting to drop that??
There wasn't a lot of thought put into it honestly. At the top of the script I wrote down "it's a new year" and then I immediately thought about that song again, and so in my dumb mind it seemed like a very natural joke to make.
Say Niantic comes to you and sheepishly admits they don't know what they're doing with Pokemon Sleep, and then ask you to think of something. What do you tell them?
I frankly don't believe in the tech, so I would make up this weird meta narrative and pretend Darkrai came up with Pokemon Sleep as another ghostly trick.
From last week’s „This has been a weird episode“, you said in 2022 you would like to make a good joke in Delayed Input. Have you ever explain what would make you consider a joke „good“?
It's a good question. I think a good joke is something that makes you laugh at first and then you still enjoy thinking about much later. It's half art and half math.
And that's it for today. Season 4 is halfway over, I'm wondering if it's about time for a returning segment. It bores me to repeat stuff too much but recurring segments help to create an identity for a show, it can be a good thing. Also I really want to try doing something that makes you laugh at first and then you still enjoy thinking about much later.

Oh, that hairstyle wasn't intentional?
