Delayed Input 402 Post-Show Assesment

This was a weird episode. Deep into the edit I wondered to myself "is this TOO all over the place?" Reading through the comments, it probably was. I picked "Kyle's Christmas Wishlist" as a theme last week, but honestly I didn't really have an angle at that point. For one week I wondered what could even be entertaining about a fake wishlist.

The final script contains remnants from a few different versions of the episode. The first thing, Bobby Kotick's resignation, is the video game newsy version of the wishlist. I feel like I could have done 8 of those, pointing out bad things that have happened this year and hoping they don't happen anymore, people in the comments would say "nice I agree" and that would be it. I think I just got bored with myself writing that version.

For a while then I wanted to turn it into a more sincere exploration of Wanting Things. I think there were some interesting thoughts there, but that bubbled into a kind of dry, unfun Christmas episode. There are still pieces of where that was going in the Kmart Mart-Max stuff, which was a silly enough wrapper to slot into a boarder video.

And then the final version of the script just has a bunch of things I think are funny. "Residue-free pepperoni slices" isn't targeted satire, a classic reference, or insightful observational humor, it's just something that tickles me. So in that way I think this was maybe my most indulgent episode. The advice I would give myself as a writer would be to focus on my perspective, find a point for this video and communicate that plainly in the first minute, and also trim out most everything else.

But it's Christmas, so I'm giving myself a pass.

So I was having a conversation with a friend, we wondered if there was any of the 800something Pokemon that isn't featured on any merchandise. This unfortunately led me to find that Stantler sweater on the Pokemon Center, and then double unfortunately I had to buy it, and then triple unfortunately I had to wear it in a Delayed Input episode.

I don't know how this happened but shortly after the episode went up someone hacked my Quanto. I can't find him anywhere.

Not a bit, I think it speaks to the simple joy of video games, just this weird unnatural thing you can do only makes sense because of how fun it is to do.

If I fell off from Ted Lasso right after the season 2 christmas ep, am I missing out?
I guess the Christmas episode was written after they banged out 10 and then Apple ordered two more. So that particular one was just "what's an extra little ep we can sneak in here?" That one is especially bad but justifiably especially bad.

That's it for today. Next week I kinda-kinda want to do a 2021 Year in Review thing but truthfully I'm hoping something more exciting happens and I can just do a video about that. It's fun to watch yearly review videos but I'm not sure I have any 2021 takes I haven't spent already. I did have an idea for a good joke at one point but I'm not sure I should suddenly force that kind of thing into Delayed Input.
