Post-Chegduff Assessment

This was a weird video. When I realized I'd be posting on Thursday I figured it needs to be a Thanksgiving special, as if it would be weird not to. But also, I hated the idea of doing a Thanksgiving special. I started thinking about a sarcastic quasi-animation starring a Delayed Input bit character, like that muppet who was perilously horny or Shrek Monkey. They didn't quite fit what I imagined for a Thanksgiving special, which is actually kinda something they don't make anymore. I thought of the specials I remembered from childhood, and of course I thought of Garfield, and then obviously I thought of Chegduff.

Chegduff was a dumb show-within-a-show joke from Box Peek, a series I made with Easy Allies a couple years ago. He'd be the perfect star for a sarcastic Thanksgiving special. There's just something I like about a human family putting up with a gross sassy cartoon character. It's why he also is just pretty much Alf. If no one saw or remembered the reference to three lines of Box Peek, I hoped they would still pick up on the archetype. 

The way most of this is animated is just me shaking a mouse around in Photoshop. I recorded in 1440p so I had room to crop the extra stuff out in 1080p. Overall I'd say it looks pretty dang bad. Really though the purpose for this kind of thing is improvement, experiment, and just creative variety, and so in this sense I consider Chegduff's Thanksgiving Special a success. It's not a Good Video necessarily but it's something that will make me better at whatever it is I do.

Did you have to contact Jones or any of the allies about using Chegduff since he's first mentioned in Box Peek?
So when we became an LLC, Isla had a special thing in the paperwork that said anything from Easy Update would belong to her forever. I was really jealous of that so I demanded I get the same thing for Box Peek. So while I don't think it would have been a big deal anyway, I actually own Chegduff. Also now if Jones ever peeks out of a box he has to contact me first.

Do I have to be the one to ask this? Is the post-credits scene autobiographical, and if so, what did the eight dragon balls have to say?
I saw this a couple of times. I'd just like to assure everyone that there is nothing autobiographical about Principal Sleepy's dialogue. I was just thinking about Sleepy being stuck in this weird show, made into the new principal, and missing the other gross dwarves. Also I just thought it was funny that there's an extra Dragon Ball in Chegduff's world.

Did you write this sequentially, or did different parts of the script come together at different times? Do you ever think of one liners far in advance and just wait for a video to use them in?
This kind of thing I pretty much write sequentially. I wanted the whole video to be a meta metaverse conversation, but I had so much fun writing interruptions and adding new grandmothers that I clearly lost the focus there. By far the thing I spent the most time on in this script was picking which random uncomfortable characters Chegduff could suddenly conjure. Very hard to strike a balance between too easy/memey and too obscure.

I'd like to put up some sort of video that week but I'm not sure what I'll be capable of. If it's not up to YouTube quality maybe a video post here on the Patreon.
