Your Feedback & Requests & Delayed Input 308 Post-Show Assessment

Firstly I'd like to use this post to ask if you've got any general feedback and requests about the show or this patreon. It'll be 4 weeks until the next Delayed Input, so now is a good time to implement any changes. Whether you'd like to see more of this or less of that, or are sick of the backdrop, don't like my voice, I'm interested to hear anything. If you feel weird making a public comment you can direct message me here on Patreon too. (I'm just historically not very good at replying)

And now it's time for the Post-Show Assessment of episode 308, a weird one. Dr. Box Art was a bad idea I had a long time ago, pre-Delayed Input even. It has existed as a backup idea for the backup ideas, patiently waiting in the shadows for a moment of desperation.

There were two bullet points on my pre-season ideas list that I thought would work for this week: "1 Year of Next Gen" and "Ep about Marvel's Avengers." Looking back at the first year of the PS5 and the Xbox Serieses was turning into a sour script. You can't really compare it to other times without considering Covid-19, and so there's nothing reasonable to complain about and nothing I feel truly enthusiastic about. With the Avengers episode, I needed a concept bigger than Marvel's Avengers since most humans obviously and rightfully don't care about that game. I was failing to come up with anything that popped, and most angles just led to how pointless the video was becoming. There was also inner pressure the whole time to make this episode Extra Good since it's a season finale, and I wasn't managing to find Normal Good.

So Dr. Box Art came rapping at my door. I don't love the concept because the video doesn't really say anything, just a series of dumb jokes basically. But it was also something I knew I could bang out. "Bang out" here means "get through it" and definitely not "get through it quickly." In Delayed Input production, I've learned that every minute spent in Photoshop is actually 30 minutes. I'm starting to learn how long each part of this show takes, so I knew coming in that signing on for Dr. Box Art was also accepting another sunrise edit. Those became kinda normal throughout Season 3, maybe I'm secretly into it.

QUESTIONS FROM YOU!

Not to be rude but what's up with that shirt man
Probably half of the YouTube comments are about this jacket too. I'm thinking it's just unusual for an online person to present themselves in something other than their coolest clothes that they think look good. I just saw this jacket on Amazon and thought "this is very funny." Hopefully this distinction will be clearer in future seasons.

Were there any other boxarts that you looked at or wanted to do that got left on the cutting room floor?
At first I really wanted to make fun of Far Cry 6's cover because it's so dumb, but I figured the segment might make more sense if I did future releases. I find that Amazon actually has some of the best high-res box art on the internet, so this is embarrassing but I just scrolled through Coming Soon on Amazon and looked for games I could make jokes about. When I got to Big Brain Academy I was just like "yeah that's good, that's enough."

And that's a wrap for Season 3. I think this was a fun bunch of episodes; we can feel the show getting weirder and I'm probably not going to let off the gas. I got a little lucky with juicy game news happening these past 8 weeks, next season might require more creativity. Coming up with my backup ideas list was a big help, I'm certainly going to do that again, but I'm also thinking maybe I could use this time to write one good joke and organically cram it into the Delayed Input season 4 premiere. I think that could really shock people, like maybe generate some headlines even.

The adjustments you made to the Rainbow Six Extraction box had me almost crying laughing. "We work for Ubisoft but we barely ever talk to our bosses" holyyy shit man. It's interesting to read your thoughts on concepts for videos that don't make the cut. I personally would've been into any of the above. I don't think you need to worry about appearing too sour, or covering a game that the majority of people don't care about. But I do understand where the concern comes from, and think it's cool that so much thought goes into these things. I agree with everyone here who says just do what you want to do!

My biggest feedback would be to place more convoluted stories into the series with less-approachable-to-new-fans content, obviously. Also if you could find a way to mention Robocop at least once I'd probably die happy.
