Delayed Input 408 Post-Show Assessment

This was a weird episode. If you read these posts on a regular basis you probably have a good idea of how this one came about--it wasn't really about having too much to say about two important topics, but really not enough to say about either. I shouldn't say "enough," because I could talk about Pokemon for hours, but you know, I didn't have anything that was sparkling off the page. To me the episode kind of plays out demonstrating that neither of the timelines is a solid ep in itself.

But that's also just making excuses; obviously I could have mined something in Bungie or Pokemon to sparkle about but I got quickly attached to the fun goofiness of splitting timelines pretty much the second I considered it. Honestly the prospect of taping together a new stupid prop was a big part of the appeal.

It's a phone holder, European outlet converter, LED cabinet light, and a yo-yo all loosely stuck together. Worth noting this would have taken half the time if I just bought a glue gun the last time I tried to remind myself to buy a glue gun.

And I guess that's sort of the whole point of the Delayed Input, trying out weird ideas and seeing what works. Looking back through Season 4, my favorites are probably Free Ideas for Twisted Metal and Microsoft Slurps Up Activision. One was a fun vehicle for coming up with crazy ideas on a slow game news week, and the other was a kind of fun, non-listy way to cover a boring-but-big game news week. So hopefully we're now zeroing in on what makes a good Delayed Input here 32 episodes in.

QUESTIONS FROM YOU!

Was the Viacom->Defy story true? I'd love to know more about that transition.
Yeah that was a real thing I thought about when reading about "retention incentives." Truthfully I was considering bailing on GameTrailers after the sale, so I had this weird private meeting where my new boss was selling the opportunities that Defy had to offer. I still don't fully understand why the pretended to want us so much in the beginning but it was sweet to be courted.

In Bosman at Home Ep.1 you used a "ding" sound effect and mentioned that it cost $2. How much did the "pop" sound effect you used when switching timelines cost?
As if I don't praise Epidemic Sound enough, not only do they have thousands of weird songs but also thousands of weird sound effects, all for just $12 a month.

Given the shirt this week, you're going LeBron over MJ all time?
I should make it clear that my Delayed Input costumes do not represent an endorsement for the printed brands. I really hate Space Jam: A New Legacy. That said, yes LeBron over MJ all time.

Can you sum up what you would consider to be the appeal of live service games like destiny in 5 syllables or less?
New loot?! Lucky me!

Have you considered whether continuing to up the ante with your outfits is sustainable? you have created an expectation in your audience that your outfits will keep getting more and more spectacular. are you worried you won't be able to keep the trend going?
This is unprecedented but I actually have next season's fashion theme already picked out. (and maybe even the one after that) In my mind it's easy to escalate because it's really becoming less and less and spectacular.

Using the Time Splitter seemed really painful, and the thought of having to fix my phone contacts seems exhausting, do you think it's still worth recommending?
It worked fine for me one time, I think it's safe to recommend to anyone for anything.

Picross S#?
S7! I really like the falling snow effect

The letter K always looks weird
Yeah it's a font called Rosebay I got from Creative Fabrica. I love the vibes of this font but you're right that lower-case-but-still-huge K definitely sticks out.

Was playing picross worth the pain?
Yes.

That's all for today. For the between-seasons video two weeks from now, I do have an idea of what I'd like to do. It's something I haven't done before, which is what's appealing about it, but I'm also not positive I can pull it off. So I'm going to do a little fiddling around this week, we'll see how it all shakes out. Just to prep you, I don't think it's going to the kind of thing with a good joke.
Thank you for your continued support. It's been very nice to have such a rewarding outlet to put myself into each week.

Comments

Interesting note about the font. I thought the capital Ks were for Kyle, or it was a joke that I missed. I loved this episode! So creative and silly.

That episode tickled me so much I joined the Patreon. Not that you didn’t earn it before, but I have a feeling you might need the extra cash now you have a way of creating an extra mouth to feed.
