Delayed Input 306 Post-Show Assessment
Added 2021-10-31 19:25:33 +0000 UTCThis was a weird episode. Just as I said last week, I wasn't sure if I was going to do a Halloween episode or a State of Play episode. My pre-season list had "Mega Man Legends Necromancy - Halloween" written on it, but making that its own full video was turning out kind of weak so I figured I'd wait til the end of Sony's event to finally make the call.
Clearly I just ended up combining the two ideas. What's funny is this was originally a thing where Kyle was off on a necromancy adventure and it would cut back to Kaitlin hosting the show, but that wasn't fully working either. In one of my grumpy fits I stepped back for a second and finally realized the Kaitlin half is more fun and the steps of the necromancy are more interesting left up to the imagination.
Posting at 8am is a strong indicator that I had a lot of extra issues with this one. Kaitlin needed repairs badly, and I should have just bought a hot glue gun but I tried to fix her with glue and tape instead. As a result she's pretty jacked up in person, but I guess now that she's running away from Batman it'll be fine if she keeps developing some wear and tear.
I finally made the switch to editing on the new PC and I realized immediately that there's 100 little things that make my old PC so comfy. Things like tiny settings in Premiere that you forgot are completely necessary for your workflow. The new computer did overheat and crash after exporting the episode twice (first export had some dopey graphical issues) so I'll try to be more mindful of stressing it out too much.
Here's some spine-chilling behind-the-scenes: I wanted Snaezlezaw to be this giant floating mouth and eyes, with hints of fiery facial features? So I figured the best way to pull that off would be to paint my face green and key out all my skin. I've had bad experiences painting my face green in the past, so I tried a method that would yield less shiny and slimy results. Despite my considered effort, I still ended up with a shiny and slimy green face. I had to turn the lights down a lot and that sort of destroys your ability to cleanly make the splotchy green turn invisible. Anyway I think the final effect in the video was serviceable enough, but this was probably unnecessary:

QUESTIONS FROM YOU!
Do you think pulling these last-minute all-nighters has a positive influence on the quality?
I'd say the real benefit of the late all-nighters is that I'm forced to commit to ideas with no space for self-doubt. Really I think Quality is the thing that is sacrificed--we get low-budget demon faces, jacked-up crinkly construction paper Kaitlin, and never-perfectly-focused shots. But the freedom of time constraints can be really nice.
I don't know what next week's topic will be but I do at least feel assured that I've got my denim wardrobe locked down for the next two eps. I had a good time doing the Nickelodeon All-Stars episode but I can't really figure out an angle on this constantly-developing WB Metaversus stuff. (Truthfully the Batman bit was originally about Metaversus but I went for the simpler/cleaner out) One really exciting thing about a crossover with Gandalf, Shaggy, Batman, and Rick is that I feel like it's a golden opportunity to finally slip a good joke into Delayed Input.
Comments
I've been waiting for the promised "good joke" for months, and will continue to wait patiently, but in the meantime I wanted you to know that I woke up my 7 month old baby multiple times by laughing out loud so hard at Katilin's Fs, hot dog lips, and the genius conversation with Batman. Great premise, fantastic comedic timing, excellent work!
