Delayed Input 305 Post-Show Assessment

This was a weird episode. The idea of playing Bustafellows actually crossed my mind last week and I correctly dismissed that as a stupid thing to do with the time I had left. This week though, plenty of time for Bustafellows.

Honestly the way I thought this was going to go was that I'd find a lot to love about the game and it would be kind of a sweet video about how there are hidden gems right in front of our eyes. The problem was, just five minutes in, I was like "oh no I hate this."

So clearly I had to shift the angle from which I was approaching this. "I tried an unpopular game and didn't like it" is not a great topic for a video, but I was committed to Bustafellows at that point, so I basically just dug into my feelings. By the end of the episode I started to feel a grand pointlessness in all review aggregation, but we don't dig that far.

From an editing standpoint it was interesting to have a big 2.5 hour chunk of broll to scrub through. Before recording the on-camera stuff I took an extra step of watching through the gameplay again, writing down when important moments popped up and also just refreshing my memory. When I first wrote the script I didn't realize the game absolutely duped me about the wallet thing. That still bothers me frankly.

QUESTIONS FROM YOU!

Was that intro ditty inspired by ReviewTechUSA’s?
It was of course inspired by the iconic final 3 seconds of the Goof Troop intro

Sometimes I clearly have a real idea for an intro bit, and sometimes you can tell I had nothing and just shot whatever came to me. This is obviously an example of one of the times I worked really hard on it.

Why not play the hand gag all video? Or did you want to subtly let us all know you have long slender fingers and large finger gaps?
So the first idea was to do this thing where I'd say "I've had weird slender fingers all my life and nobody ever seems attracted to them" but like doing creepy ghoulish gestures with my hands.
Then, who knows why, I just thought "but what if I had tiny hands instead?" I actually had a callback to the tiny hand later in the ep, but I spent so much time making the first shot that it definitely wasn't happening a second time. It's not a visually impressive effect but even then it took me forever to get it to a place where it looks acceptable.

So next week I want to do some sort of Halloween-themed episode, but there's also a State of Play on Wednesday, which could bring big fun news or practically nothing. Currently I'm not committed to one or the other, probably won't make the final call til Wednesday itself. There's a third option that I shouldn't even bring up, but one thing I'm also tossing around is the potential of doing a Delayed Input with one good joke.

Comments

Hahaha, I sing the ending to the Goof Troop intro all the time

Emmett

Let's tuck that good jokes idea away for another show, another individual. You're a fun guy Bosman but you're just not THE funny guy, y'know?
