Delayed Input 108 Post-Show Assessment
Added 2021-06-11 18:36:31 +0000 UTCHey first of all, we cracked 1000 patrons! I know I can dip under 1k again at any point, but it seemed worth pointing out.
But anyway, this was a weird episode. Last week I knew I wanted to do some sort of big E3 season finale. I thought about getting a new Christmas sweater and really playing it up. Quickly into actually writing the script, I realized in my heart I really care about this E3 that much. Looking at my notebook, there's stuff like "E3 is fake and stupid, I love E3."
So I spent a long time settling on some interesting hook for the episode, and really the first two minutes of the episode where I rationalize finding some value in E3 was really close to my natural train of thought. When I resolved to embrace the dumbness, the hook for this week's episode almost immediately popped in. I think the very concept of having Burning Questions for E3 is innately stupid, but it's fun, it's okay to make a fun stupid video.
The after credits bonus bit is the reason this one took a few extra hours to get done. I think it is its own kind of inner response to me wanting to something big for the finale. I actually thought through most of that dialogue while I was taking a Tetris break. (Doing a bit where someone is concerned for a Kyle Bosman viewer was actually a fairly common theme during my Tetris live streams) As soon as I Game Overed I just typed out that scene, then assembled the rest of the episode from my notes from there. It was the thing I was most excited to do, and I probably want to do more of. I just need to plan out more time for that kind of thing.
- I bought that flame background from Adobe Images for $80. That seemed expensive but I'm not usually buying video assets so I had no idea. Also it was fast and easy, and this is the sort of thing I'm usually adding last. If you know of better resources please drop em here in the comments.
- One of the earliest ideas I had was to do a sarcastic "E3 Preparedness Kit." Often when I have a phrase I think is a little too clever I just google it. "E3 Preparedness" has seemingly been used twice on the internet: Once in a VentureBeat article from 2009, which is like "Okay I can still use it," and then an Easy Update titled "E3 Preparedness Discussion" from just last year. I think adding the word Discussion makes it a bad title, but this is a big win for Isla and I admit defeat.
- Next week's E3 Hot Takeaways video won't have the iconic school photo aesthetic or Delayed Input branding but I still want to do something weird with it. Hopefully something eventful happens this weekend that creates some "Oo can't wait to see what Kyle's gonna say about THIS" kind of scenario. At the very least I see escaping the show's format as an opportunity to try writing one good joke.

I've been using a site called StoryBlocks for stock images, videos and music. Pretty cheap overall and you can find a promo code to save some money.
