Delayed Input 107 Post-Show Assessment

This was a weird episode. I'm pretty sure I had the idea of doing a video with Sean asking him about the specifics of Cloud's arms in Remake a year ago. It was one of those ideas you have for a while and then quickly forget. A few weeks ago, when I was thinking about what kind of thing I should do for my weird in-between seasons video I thought of this Cloud's arms thing again. I emailed Sean about it and he was super down.
Then, when we had the discussion here on Patreon about doing a post-E3 episode, I could distinctly imagine many viewers having absolutely have no patience for this unrelated exercise video when they just want to hear about E3. I thought about bumping the Cloud's Arms video to the next season break months from now, but it really wouldn't make sense by that time, so then I figured, Why Not, let's just package it as a Delayed Input.
That's the kind of nice thing about Delayed Input so far--I've never really made any statement about what the show is and isn't, so we can really do whatever. Generally the response to this episode was more positive than I thought it would be. I'll probably keep playing around with the format but really I think you only get one or two interview episodes per season. As we established last week, you need your regular format to be regular before you break it. Also that edit was much more intense than a regular episode, where it's just me with my one shot. The interview itself went for almost an hour, and the cuts were brutal because I'm trimming essential education and safety from Sean. I would have even liked to cut out more but I simply ran out of time. That actually leads well into this week's big mistake.
This Week's Big Mistake: Sean and I recorded on Wednesday morning, which is great, I'd be ahead of schedule. At the beginning of this interview, I accidentally knocked over my camera, which you know, it happens. No big deal. What I didn't realize is that the camera's tumble switched it into super slow motion mode. While it looked like it was recording when I pressed the red button, I actually just got a few super long half-hour clips of 5 minutes' worth of footage when it came time to edit. Sean was super nice when I explained that we'd have to reshoot the entire thing. (Also look forward to some dumb slow motion bit in the future, it actually looked really nice)
Reshooting is always annoying but I think it made for a better episode. I was able to frame up the conversation a little better, we decided I should demonstrate more of the exercises (I just did the chin-ups in the original interview) and I wonder if generally you work harder to keep someone's attention in a conversation you've both already had before. Most notably, by Thursday I recorded the intro and outro already and let Sean know that I didn't have a Shrek joke yet in the ep. He said "Okay I have an idea." So when he pulled Shrek Bod out, it was doubly funny for me as Sean's sort of Yu-Gi-Oh trap card flip.

QUESTIONS FROM YOU!
When you left EZA you said that you wanted to do something else which is your own thing. Do you regard Delayed Input now as this own thing or is it still only a side project next to your actual main thing? I think quite a few people probably wonder why you returned to this type of content when it is so similar to what you did earlier at GT or EZA. Do you feel that Delayed Input would not have been possible under the EZA umbrella?

This is a good question, I bet a lot of people wonder about this too. Delayed Input for sure is not what I imagined a year and a half ago when I decided to leave LA and Easy Allies. Plan A was grad school, and if I didn't get in Plan B was months of travel.
Delayed Input is my main project right now, but probably not the ambiguous ideal "main thing" I was seeking. It's the result of months and months of weird life and a desire to do something. (And also, frankly, to make money) This is why I've committed to doing at least a year of Delayed Input--it says Hey I'm serious about this, I really want to do this, but also it won't be forever, but also I acknowledge I might want to do more than a year, I'm not a consistent person. It's my lemonade stand.
So yes, something like Delayed Input obviously could have been possible under the EZA umbrella, but also Delayed Input probably wouldn't have existed without the pandemic.

Next week is the season one finale, the pre-E3 episode, obviously I want it to be something kinda big but we'll see what comes out. One thing for sure is that I'd like to try writing one good joke.

Comments

Thanks for answering my question Kyle, really appreciate your openess. Also, great episode! Sean is such a cool dude.

I was fully prepared to jump on the patreon tier where we could get to watch you work out. I was dismayed to find out there is no such tier. I would also like a tier where you work out dressed as shrek... if you need further patreon tier suggestions hit me up
