Delayed Input 106 Post-Show Assessment
Added 2021-05-28 18:07:13 +0000 UTCThis was a weird episode. As you might pick up from the inclusion of the Sonic trailer, I didn't record this one until Thursday afternoon. That's not because I had a late start this week, but because for a long time I wasn't really feeling anything I had going. There was a lot of uncertainty about going with this idea or that idea, and surely there's a better idea around the corner, so maybe it's best to not commit to anything yet. At a certain point, namely Thursday morning, I had to finally lock in my topic. The result was the best of what I had scribbled down, but wasn't the great imaginative idea I was waiting to land on.
It's funny to read positive comments when you're pretty sure you let everyone down. I don't think I made a bad video but I would probably still call it unspectacular. This week's lesson might be that it's okay to be unspectacular sometimes. And also the spectacular stuff only really feels spectacular if there's an established pattern of regular stuff leading up to it. Producing this show continues to be a struggle with self-doubt, depression, and computer patience and I think it's been pretty good for me.
- I tried to incorporate some feedback from last week into the quote-reading graphics. I'm not sure highlighting the text is the right way to go still, I might work harder on these if reading quotes becomes a more regular part of the show.
- the decision to do an E3 recap video mid-break was made after thinking about your questions and comments here on Patreon, I really do appreciate the feedback. It wasn't something I was fully thinking through before
- conversely to this week, I actually already have something I really want to do next week. It's a little scary considering hot game news is suddenly dropping every six hours, but I feel like the title Delayed Input implies some leeway with sticking to the newest news. I'm not promising it will be spectacular, but it will at least be something different. Also this time I would like to try writing one good joke.
