Delayed Input 105 Post-Show Assessment

This was a weird episode. We haven't had the perfect episode of Delayed Input yet, but this was a fun week for feeling out the show's vibes and potential. This is much less of a list episode, or one with a strict structure like I've made so far. It also has probably fewer comedic bits than any episode so far.
I decided very late to add b-roll in the little picture-in-picture box. Very, very late. The finished edit was kinda sitting there and I was thinking, "is this boring? Do I need to just slather this thing with b-roll?" So I tossed my dream of getting the episode out on time out the window and gave this a shot.
It actually took a while. I was going to string some trailers together but then lucked upon a deep dive posted on PlayStation's YouTube channel. Not sure if this is still good practice but in the GameTrailers days if something was posted on an official channel it was  considered promotional material and was good to use. Really though if I had thought of this sooner I would just download the game and get my own capture. I don't expect I'll be doing the constant broll regularly, this was more an emergency measure for what I was feeling to be a fairly dry episode.
There were a couple of comments about the choice to have the quotes up in a smaller part of the screen as opposed to the more-traditional full screen quotes I went with in the Activision episode. You do see someone leaning over to his monitor reading quotes, and honestly I kind of like it. There's something more active about it, maybe less TV showy. It's going to be a challenge to find the right balance--some people like a more formal program, some get turned off. I agree I can work on the eye-line though, it's weird to look right to read a quote that appears on your left.

Extra bits:
I had actually written down the whole "I was gonna say" bit before in an abandoned script I almost shot for the Avengers game last from last year. I ended up clipping a live discussion on twitch instead and bailed on the script, which was admittedly pretty bad. But I was looking at it this week and was like "Hey this 'I was gonna say' part is pretty good." I actually love using google docs for how instantly searchable everything is
I didn't consciously exclude Shrek. Shrek so far has just kind of worked out naturally, and I figured that I would probably illustrate the office mug scene and hide Shrek on someone's tie or something. In the end I decided that scene works best with just a human explaining it, without realizing I in effect also trashed poor Shrek. I suppose I could have hidden him in the Returnal footage if I truly truly cared about Shrek.

QUESTIONS FROM YOU:
any further thoughts on music?

Yes, something is in the works. It probably won't be ready soon but yeah I was feeling the need a little extra this week.

Are you interested in any topic suggestion in the comments of videos (on Patreon I mean, on youtube it'd be a nightmare to go through)
As each week proves, choosing a topic is just something I feel out. I'm not going to say "don't suggest anything" because they can be fun, and like what if there's somehow big momentum behind finally doing the Bubsy episode that people are always asking for. I am saying there's a slim chance I would use any given suggestion. I already bail on so many of my own ideas.

Are you planning on covering e3 with more than a Delayed Input (maybe streams or another format, or a BIG Delayed Input)
The last episode of Delayed Input Season 1 will be June 10th, which is unfortunately the very day of the Summer Game Fest kickoff stream. E3 streams will then be happening Saturday through Tuesday. So yes I'd say it would make a lot of sense to do a Delayed Input that Thursday after E3, to recap the events and trends and make fun of the worst presentations, but really I want to stick to the 8 on, 3 off structure. As always I'm open to having my mind changed, but this is the current plan. It really does suck that the season finale will potentially be outdated the moment it goes up. I'll figure something out.
Probably no special streams though. That's Easy Allies' time to shine.

Do you see a way that niche games make a comeback in a way that they still look good but maybe reduce the scope?
I like ugly niche games. If niche games become beautiful we will lose the ugliness.

Next week's goal is have the kinda title/concept where you're like "Oh I gotta see this." Like still laid-back straight-talk, but maybe a little Stephen A Smith too. Also I would like to try writing one good joke

Comments

These behind the scenes are very fun.

thanks for looking into adding music, it really does make a big difference, especially this episode which sorely needed it. also the box in the corner didn't really work for me, but it was a lot better than nothing at all, i feel the intermittent b-roll cuts to spice things up during the episode are the most effective i hope you reconsider doing a post E3 rundown episode, would love to hear your thoughts on everything
