Season 1 Assessment

This was a weird 9 weeks. I'll start with a mini post-show assessment for the E3 Hot Takeaways video:

I didn't land on a Charles Barkley analogy til I re-recorded the intro at the end of the night (which is why Mucho is only around for the first 10 seconds of the video; chronologically he was just showing up for the end of the shoot) but it helped me define for myself why I'm making the video. Really almost nothing from E3 got my heart pumping, nothing really made me mad either, so I wasn't sure why I should add another voice to the internet's cacophony of opinions. But I love watching Charles Barkley. I love that he repeatedly makes guarantees that all turn out wrong. So really, me taking digs at E3's video games is just its own kind of supplementary entertainment. I definitely exaggerated some takes in a sports talk way, and I think it played well for this sort of one-off special video. I don't think I could do this sort of raw, comment-baiting video devoid of wacky bits on a weekly basis, but it was its own kind of fun. Lastly I'll say the edit took way longer than I expected. I figured it would be a no-frills boom-ba-boom kind of edit, but providing proper trailers for each moment really does just consume time somehow. Also I had a few crashes and then after loading my auto save I have to do my best to remember the cuts I made. There's an edit early on that I'm a little embarrassed got in to the final video. But hey we got it done baby.

As for Delayed Input, I'm already thinking about Season 2 a lot. While the show's tone has definitely been refined over 8 episodes I still haven't quite nailed it down yet. Before this all started I imagined I'd be doing 3-5 minute episodes, nice short segments in and out, but in practice I've just been wanting to say more. I expect Season 2 to get Even Weirder. Often the things that excite me the most to edit & export is seeing how a weird comedic bit plays out. Also I think Kaitlin was a nice goofy prop and it's silly I never did any more of that. I have a green screen I've played around with a little, it would be nice to find a use for that as well. Lastly there was a comment here on Patreon about how nice the depth of the background was for this week's low-key video, I hear that. There will probably be some sort of change-up with my photo backdrop in Season 2.
I think there's a conversation to have about the show's performance. While this patreon already has more patrons than I was planning for, honestly I expected the YouTube views to be 2-3 times what they've landed on. That's just an expectation from videos I've sporadically uploaded to my channel in years past. After hearing even immensely popular YouTubers remark on their powerlessness against losing views, though, I'm mostly unbothered. I could play the YouTube Game much harder if I truly wanted views, but that's not really what we're doing here. An important thing is that the Delayed Input audience has been fairly consistently ~20k, meaning that for all the people who tune in and say "Okay I don't need to watch this ever again" we're still getting as many new people. That's pretty good.
Really my goals for this patreon/project are met and exceeded so far. As I originally stated nine weeks ago, I've been looking for a drive to create on a regular basis and you've provided that. Thank you. I'm looking forward to coming back with a new, hopefully fun and unexpected and Barkley-like video in two weeks. Above all else Season 2 presents a real opportunity for me potentially writing one good joke.

With how consistent you've been in keeping up with your schedule, I thought season 1 was actually pretty good. I'm sure that if you had more time in between videos to think about what exactly you want this show to be that you would nail down the vibe in no time but I guess this is something that you're thinking about during your off time and is something I look forward to seeing in the next season! As for Youtube views, I've heard that watch time is more valuable to the algorithms for now because Youtube apparently values videos that make people stick around on their website longer so I wouldn't worry too much about views for now. Also, my suggestion for if you're gonna do more weird stuff next season, I think that you don't have to intentionally make a WHOLE video weird. That's asking a lot creatively so I say if you're gonna do it again, you can maybe stick it in the intro or bonus bit since imposing such limitations often has an affect of getting those creative juices flowing.
