Hey everyone!

I have two quick updates for you. I mentioned the other day that I had some ideas for Adamant's future that would require me to add an SKSE dependency. I've chatted with a few people, and one of those ideas is going to become a reality sooner than I expected. I decided that the easiest approach was just to brand the project as an "Adamant Addon" and make a separate mod page for it.

Hand to Hand - An Adamant Addon is going to do two things: First, it's going to merge Lockpicking and Pickpocketing into a new "Security" tree. Then, with the extra room we created by merging those skills, we're going to add a new "Hand to Hand" tree for unarmed combat. My two co-authors for this project are Jelidity, who made the (amazing) art as well as some interface files, and Colinswrath, who's created the DLL that will handle XP for the new trees.

All of the technical work is done, and the mod is in a pretty functional state. I'm just finishing the perk trees and handling a few loose ends, like trying to make sure the mod can be installed mid-game. The last major task is figuring out what to do for trainers, but I don't foresee any problems. I imagine this mod will see a release before Christmas.

This mod has been something I've wanted to work on for a long time, but it was on a back burner because my attempts to create art for the tree weren't up to my standards. I mentioned the project in front of Jelidity, and she offered to help pretty much out of nowhere. I've been so excited to work on it ever since I saw her art.

What does this mean for Mysticism? Nothing serious, honestly. I doubt I'll be done by Christmas, now that I’m juggling two projects, but I'm still making great progress (I finished Poison spells today). I'll keep you all updated!

One last thing. It’s been a while since I’ve donated my Patreon money. Fortunately, Patreon keeps excellent records for me, so I never have to stress about falling behind. My Patreon donations since July total up to being just a hair below $1000, so I went ahead and made the donation an even $2000 to the National Center for Transgender Equality. Thanks for all the support!

One of the reasons I was down for this project is that I think merging Lockpicking and Pickpocketing into one skill would be a good idea even if it didn't give me room to add a new tree. The three big problems w/ lockpicking and pickpocketing are: 1) Even in a small perk mod like Adamant, it's really hard to come up with good perks for both of these skills. Lockpicking was a bit easier since I just loaded up the perk tree with loot perks, but since Pickpocket can't really benefit from loot perks, there was just nothing. Ordinator and Vokrii solve this w/ the coin mechanic, which I think is neat, but I didn't want to go that direction. So a lot of my Pickpocket perks were just pretty lame "25% boost under this condition" perks. 2) Leveling two separate non-combat trees on a thief tends to skyrocket your level. 3) Investing into two separate non-combat trees stretches your perks really thin. This compounds point 1 and 2 both, because not only are you high level, but you've been investing in a bunch of dubiously valuable perks. Merging pickpocket and lockpicking into security fixes all three of these problems with no loss of features. My Security tree is going to have 12 or 14 perks and I'm happy with each one. Adamant had 20 perks spread between Lockpicking and Pickpocketing (since I wanted 10 perks minimum in every tree). And since there are many fewer Pickpocket perks, I can give them more broadly useful conditions and significantly higher potencies, making this a win-win.

I love the idea. While I've never been too bother by unarmed being another tree's tagalong, pickpocket has always been too niche and divorced from regular adventuring activity to stand on its own. Maybe it'll actually be able to pay its rent by sharing a flat with its best theify mate.
