State of the ‘Rim - February 2022

Hello everyone!

It’s been a while since I’ve done a State of the ‘Rim. If you’ve been following my Patreon or my Discord, you know these last two weeks were a major period of transition for me. Two Fridays ago (February the 11th) was my last day of work, and I don’t intend to seek employment for a while. I have some things lined up in June (because that’s when I expected to be done w/ this job), but until then, I’m planning to focus on resting, taking care of the house, and modding.

I was a bit cagey about giving a schedule last week, because I knew it was possible I’d need to take some time to rest. However, over the past week and a half, I’ve been working basically full time on Mysticism, and it’s been great! Today, I finished scrolls and staves for all Conjuration spells, which means that I’m almost ready to begin my final pass. The only tasks left between me and the beginning of the end are some vendor changes and a few small items that I put off because they’re a little annoying (like injecting a record from Pilgrim and distributing it to Sun spells). 

I expect the final pass to be a decent amount of work–there’s just a lot of content in this mod, and I already have a list of things that are wrong and need to be corrected–and I’m not sure how long it will take. There is, of course, the chance I’ll stumble upon a problem that’s big enough that it takes a few days to fix it. After the final pass, the only thing that I need to finish in order to release Mysticism 2 is an update to Adamant. Oh, and I’ll probably want to update the Ordinator patch as well. I suppose I’ll let Enai take care of the Vokrii patch, since he hosts it on his page and it’s more involved than just forwarding records.

Elden Ring comes out tonight, and my wife’s parents will be in town over the weekend. So after this post, I’ll take a few days off from work and pick back up on Monday or Tuesday of next week. If it takes me a few days to work on vendor changes and final tasks, and it takes me a week to work on the final pass and the Adamant update, that leaves me w/ a tentative release date of March 11. If something takes longer than expected, that leaves me with a release date closer to March 18. I’ll have a better idea of which release date is more realistic by March 4th.

I know I’ve given release dates before and then been unable to meet them. However, given my situation now, it’s really hard to imagine what could happen–I suppose the worst case scenario is I find a problem that needs a lot of work to fix, but even then, I can’t see how it would delay things more than a week or two.

After Mysticism is finished, I’ll be able to think about what comes next. I have quite a few mods I want to update, and I want to work on Artificer as well. I also have something of a secret project that I want to put some time into. One we get past the finish line for Mysticism, I can lay out a timeline for the next months or two. Until then, cheers!
