(Almost) Out of Limbo, Finally

Hey everyone,

On Monday, I felt I owed you an update, because it was the end of January and I had suggested that Mysticism might be done by then. I wasn’t able to say a lot, because several pieces were still in motion. However, everything has settled down now, so I can update you on what’s going on.

On Friday, January 28th, I submitted my resignation. I do not intend to seek work as a teacher in the future. I’m a really good teacher, and I find a lot of things about the job emotionally fulfilling. However, I’ve been increasingly unable to cope with the long hours and lack of district level leadership. When my school division finally announced that they were going to allow COVID positive students to come back to school with symptoms, I simply had too much. The honest truth is that for a while now, my district has been making decisions based on what’s easiest, rather than what keeps its teachers and students safe. Combined with the increasing pressure from the governor to whitewash history, it was simply too much for me to handle. My last day is Friday, February 11th.

For a while now, I’ve been intending to quit at the end of the year. Because of that, I have plans in place for July and beyond. Since I quit earlier than I expected, I have a few months free with nothing obvious to do. My wife and I have talked it over, and neither of us feel the need for me to seek employment between now and the summer, so I’ll be spending this time taking over the household duties and chores for my wife. (I’ve already been doing most of them since her injury.) Beyond that, I should be able to dedicate a pretty big chunk of time to modding.

It’s unlikely that I’ll be able to work on Mysticism between now and next week, and I’m sure after I quit I’ll want a few days off to just rest. However, once I’ve had some time to recover, I’m going to focus on finishing Mysticism. I’m sorry for the many delays this mod has experienced. The good news is, this is pretty much by definition the final delay, since after this, I literally have several months free. There’s no real reason to think anything will get in the way, barring some kind of emergency. After Mysticism, I have a couple of other updates I want to make (Blade & Blunt, Scion, and Manbeast at the very least), and then I have some new projects that have just been waiting for me to have time. I’ll probably also stream more, whether on Twitch or on Discord.

One last thing I want to note. Since I won’t be gainfully employed for a while, my wife has asked me to use the cash I’m generating from modding to see if I can’t pay a car payment or something like that. As you probably know, I’ve been matching and donating the funds from this Patreon to the National Center for Transgender Equality. Since the Patreon is coming up on being a year old now, I will match and donate all of the payments up til March, including everything since my last donation. Once I’ve done that, we will have 12 months of donations to the National Center for Transgender Equality. Then, starting with the April 1st payment, I will no longer donate the income from this Patreon, instead using it to pay for expenses. (I have a specific thing I’d like to use the money for in the future, which I’ll be happy to tell you about in a few months when it’s closer). This gives everybody a month of warning, if you’d like to change your pledge. Remember, I’m the one who has changed the rules here, so there are absolutely no hard feelings if anyone would like to stop supporting me. Once the final donation is complete, I’ll make another post reminding everyone to cancel their subs if they’d like, and I’ll update the description of the Patreon as well, to list the amount of money we raised in the first year of this Patreon’s life.

Hopefully this feels like an appropriate and above-board way to execute this shift in policy. I would have liked to give more notice for a change like this, but things went a lot faster than I had originally planned. If anyone has any concerns they would like to raise, please feel free to reach out in private.

Alright, so that’s a wrap on this update. I’ve shared a lot of news, and obviously this has been a really stressful period of my life. But the bottom line right now is actually… things are looking up. I’m going to get a chance to rest, finally, both physically and mentally, and I’ll be able to devote a lot of time to modding for the foreseeable future. As always, feel free to check out my Discord.
