Second Channel

But here is the link to the second channel where I will be posting stuff regularly at from now on while I work on the larger main projects. This first video is sort of just a touch base kind of deal after everything that happened post Bad Conservative Horror Movies. I'll also be posting everything that I make for this channel here early as I finish it so you'll be able to find that here as well. I really appreciate it, and definitely am doing well myself I hope you are. I’m going to just keep working and making stuff, the reception isn’t nearly as bad as it was earlier in the year and will fade some in time I think.

Being in a situation where you must kowtow to people who literally want you to give up on your career and...starve to death I guess? is a lose-lose situation. Mostly I wanted to share an odd observation, here. In that comment section, there is a commenter called HimslGames, AKA Florian Himsl, who worked on the original Binding of Isaac, who didn't like your apology. This is funny to me because, in the Simian Jimmy/Mumkey Jones community, Florian is HUGELY infamous for his terrible contrarian opinions and bad takes, and left the podcast recently on bad terms. If you want an infamous example of Florian, check out the "Is Florian a Sociopath?" episode on the Simian Jimmy's Treehouse channel and skip to 59:05 to find out why Florian would rather invest in one tank for the war over curing 1000 people's blindness. Anyway, my point is, I am CONVINCED that you are in the right here, because everyone that Florian doesn't like is actually good (Like Eggy from the podcast) and everything he does like is actually bad. He's that level of contrarian. So him disliking you is, like, definitive proof that you are one of the good guys. The haters are kind of standing on shaky ground when Florian is on their side, and I think that is hilarious. I really do hope you are doing well and that this isn't getting to you as much as the haters think it is.

Zane is as good as he is at what he does because he talks about the things that are important to him, that he's passionate about. Also, just because Zane feels he went about making the conservative horror video in an incorrect manner doesn't mean that he was wrong about his feelings on conservative ideals.

Love the accountability you've taken. Love that you're energised and back to creating amazing work. Love that you're going to do better because you were already doing a great job. I believe the real world is challenging enough, and the only way to move forward is by finding a community of open-minded individuals who are empathetic to different experiences than their own. The John Waters video struck me as incredibly good, and it will connect with people who share those same open-minded qualities.

I've been watching your essays for a long while, and it's always been a treat for me to get a notification for a new IPOS video because I know that, for that night, I'd buy a bottle of wine and get cosy for another brilliant video. I have watched and rewatched your content, and I hope you realise how much talent you have for storytelling. Your perspective on pop culture, movies, books, comics, etc. has impressed me endlessly. The comments I've seen have been particularly repulsive and offer little to no valuable criticism. Still, I know that acknowledging the senselessness of those comments sometimes isn't enough, and I'm so, so sorry you had (and have) to experience that. Comment sections and fanbases on YouTube are particularly vulnerable to groupthink, and it saddens me to see that you were on the shit side of it. These are your first two videos since the last, so you're bound to get these crap comments. My two cents would be to force yourself to keep your eyes off the comments for a little while, until the nasty commenters--there just to get the hate out of their systems--lose interest and move on. I think you've got a really supportive fanbase behind it all, which I think you can see in Patreon, but those comments are just going to be trodden into the void and overshadowed by the shitty ones until some time passes.

From one WNC Methodist to another (very cool to hear you state that publicly), I think this video probably should have been cut at 2:16. I have a feeling this is just going to dredge everything up again. Letting your work speak for itself & not giving fodder to folks who aren’t going to change their views no matter what you say is what I would suggest if I was in a place to do so. I hope you don’t interpret these words as having any malice in them, and I appreciate you taking responsibility for your part in the situation & saying yourself that you shouldn’t have done a lot of things or responded to the backlash. Anyways, looking forward to your next piece on the main channel

2024-10-27 02:35:21 +0000 UTCReally hoping there was a silver lining to all this drama in that both you Zane and the channel will thrive in the long-term. I think the In Praise of Shadows channel needs to update what it does/says in line with how people perceive it and how exactly it views opposing groups. After Jack Frost, the next few franchise videos could maybe focus on films with conservative themes and filmmakers that happen to be conservative that you also happen to have a lot of nice things to say about. Like Exorcist for example which would be great anyway cause demonic possession franchises have hardly been touched besides that tiny short video from years ago. So then do those projects and gush about how much you love those films/filmmakers and how their conservatism contributes to how good they are as art. Don’t think of it as appeasing/catering to channel haters, but more like showing that you have improved and can get along with other groups to viewers with more neutral stances but are currently being soured on you as a person from looking at hater comments

Just wondering because other than the general apology at 16 minutes, I see haters complaining that there were no specific apologies given to specific people or addressing specific issues where you were flat-out wrong - like the gatekeeping closing statement - or really stretching minimal evidence, which I can see where they're coming from. Especially if the situations were reversed and it was all of us reacting to a Wendigoon hit piece on you

In part I felt how people would see me coming back would help in telling sections of Waters story. But that line in particular was one that my script editor wanted to cut and after talking it out we decided to leave it in there
