Hi all,
I'm happy to announce that programming has wrapped up on My Summer Vacation 2! Aside from any bugs that might pop-up, all text and subtitles are fully injectable. The last few bits were the most difficult and something I hadn't attempted before: adding subtitles wholesale to dialogue that had none. This game had two situations that needed all new subtitles, and both were incompatible with each other, meaning two completely separate solutions had to be developed! For the television I reverse-engineered the game's scripting system and created what is essentially a modding tool for the game, and for the beetle sumo I hooked into the game's voice clip system and wrote a little renderer in assembly for the subtitles I needed.
With that huge chunk of work out of the way, I can finally settle down and work on translating text. For fun, I'm starting with the diary pages—I really enjoy writing things from Boku's point of view. The rest of the team is continuing to work on graphics and they're also cleaning and subtitling the FMVs. The work they're doing is nothing short of perfection.
