I Bought a Very Broken Forklift

And then I fixed it!

I need some help with a title for this video. There are too many options.

I Bought a Very Broken Forklift

Comments

I don't know why, but this video with your dad, and the old old one with your brother and the old crawler are really special, I don't really know why there are millions of people starting up old equipment and it's got boring. I think it's the shuttle interaction with your dad and bro with the old iron that is special.

Even the Blind Dog.... :)

John Gislason

Have a great holiday.

Sam Ellison

Wow! Best project yet! Well, played, sir! Nothing succeeds like success.

Michael S Wilhelm

Huh.... I need a 7 ton fork lift!!!! Also look at the shyster on that hyster 😁. Sorry buddy

Stevie Bboy

F**ked Forklift Fixed!

Reese

The indignity thrust upon that poor Volkswagen being used as a test weight. Lol.

K H

Great score with the forklift Wes, it has to happen occasionally! Merry Christmas to you and yours.

David Yates

Merry Christmas Wes

Dave

Man, that is an awesome score! It doesn't happen often for most of us, but it's pretty nice to save something from the scrapper *and* is an inexpensive fix.

Keith Mezzina

Wes I use the gorilla super glue in the squeeze bottle a bit bigger than a eye drop bottle. It has blue grips on it. I use it to do the same oring repair on low pressure o rings. The bonus I can get a year put of the bottle without it clogging tips and drying up. Clean razor cut. Brake clean the joints and glue.

Kris Franklin

can it make any down force with the forks? enough to get some blocks under the drive wheels?

Kate Cole

Wes, it's come full circle for you and I. Many years ago, I was working on a slightly older 12K Hyster similar to yours here, repairing a busted Continental flathead 6 gasser (also got for scrap price). Your videos on the 4 cylinder engine you were working on (very similar) is how I discovered you and have been a fan ever since. This was I think pretty early in your youtube career. I learned a few tricks about these engines from you, and we did get that thing running pretty sweet, and still use it today. We also had to rebuild the side-shift cylinder on ours. They take a beating I think because they are out in the weather. Pretty easy stuff to fix as long as it's serviceable (ours was). Be glad the brakes worked on yours.... the hydroboost system they use is pretty wonky. Anyways, it's fun to see you get something similar and post a few videos. Happy Holidays to you and the family. Looking forward to what's coming in 2025. Dan

It kind of looks like you have a portable vehicle lift now, provided you can brace it when a vehicle is up in the air!

South Street Barbecue

Suggestion... a t-shirt.. 'The bunny Lives!'

Hamish van Groeneveld

I am betting that Wes could fab up a pretty decent drivers door and take advantage of that cab heater. Does it have mirrors? Forgot to check….

Jeff Chandler

Deal of the decade—awesome purchase—Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas Wes and Mrs Wes and little Wes

David Baldwin

Also, I'm proud to support the creation of frivolous content. That's the best kind. Merry Christmas, Wes (and Mrs. Wes).

Bill

Should be an equal match 🤞

"get forked"

Watch Wes Work

I'll have to pull it with the Oliver.

A Kubota like the one in my skid steer would be great. I might start looking for a spare just in case.

Watch Wes Work

Wife was not impressed.

Watch Wes Work

OK - that is a true B.U.F.F. 🙌

James Riordan

Your excitement at the end of the video when you got it running for under $10 was actually palpable. It's great to have wins like this once in a while! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Wes!

Chris Freemesser

I vote for more dramatic recreations

Bill

The front glass may need some "headlight restorer" to get it to clear up. Made me wonder, early on, what a good replacement diesel might be, and I'm not sure that Onana or Izusu would fit the Perkins footprint. But, all's well in the end (barring being in the mud--mind, with all that filthy white stuff on the ground . . .). Merry Christmas from Texas where it's 50°F on the Solstice, and the only snee around comes in a can. :-)

CapnMac82

Merry Christmas Wes and family, thanks for another year of great content!, hopefully you get it back into garage, Best wishes for 2025!

If its Big and Ugly...it must be Bugly

Merry Christmas Wes!!

Merry Christmas to you and your family! Thanks for a year of great videos!

Merry Christmas! Great episode!

Title: Forky is trash?

TJ Miller

Merry christmas Wes we used to call them shysters not as good as the climax but i'm biased

brian cook

Jerry Lee Lewis there's a whole lot of shakin' goin' on. Good thing you checked the run out.

Terry Kasprzyk

Wes Wins One! Congrats!

David G King

wow, what a score!

"Ho ho?.... oh no....."

nevermind_za

Can’t think of a title but a theme song came to mind. Love lift us up where we belong Where the eagles cry On a mountain high Love lift us up where we belong Far from the world we know Where the clear winds blow. Thanks for the video. Merry Christmas to you and the family.

Junk moving junk

Watch Wes Work

Some of the “oh baby”, heavy breathing and grunting make this a video for mature viewers

Tom Hollowell

I think part of it was a burr on the crankshaft that I missed. But, I wonder if the runout was part of why the bolts broke.

Watch Wes Work

Right. WiFi Flywheel.

Watch Wes Work

There's plenty to come!

Watch Wes Work

That goes way, way back. Those first ugly forklift videos must have been 7 years ago.

Watch Wes Work

It does have side shift. If you are clever with some blocks, you can use it to shift the forks. It might need some grease first.

Watch Wes Work

Do they still make engines there? I know Cat bought them. Usually that's a good way to ruin a company.

Watch Wes Work

Might have to wait for some warmer weather.

Watch Wes Work

"one day, I may buy something that actually works" Now, what would be the fun in that? "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Hyster!"???

Sammy Fender

I should. My DSLR never messes up. The GoPro, well...

Watch Wes Work

Something like that!

Watch Wes Work

Weird. I know the Detroits are fussy about flywheel mounting. You have to use their special grease on the bolts.

Watch Wes Work

The guy I got it from said he had it sold for $6500 before it broke.

Watch Wes Work

He loves raising himself on the jack.

Watch Wes Work

I know. It's weird.

Watch Wes Work

I put everyone to work who happen to stop by. The neighbor, my gypsy carpenter, even the wife and kid.

Watch Wes Work

This one had a center divider, so it might be tough.

Watch Wes Work

It should be a handy tool.

Watch Wes Work

It does a good job at that for sure!

Watch Wes Work

I found it a few years ago at a local farm supply store. It's a German toy (Linde is a German forklift brand).

Watch Wes Work

Thank you for the hours of entertainment you have provided us. And merry Christmas to you and your family.

Brien Devine

I was going to say "That's the first time I've seen an easyout actually work", and then you said it for me. Happy Christmas!

Peter Facey

I didn't know that you can buy toy forklifts!

Sue Rollinson

Using an easy out or left hand drill bit doesn't get any better than that. I have never had any luck with super glue the only thing I stick with it is my skin. I guess it was designed to do that.Merry Christmas to you and the family.

Eric Corse

Watching the forklift back in with the Golf reminded me of a predator dragging its prey into its lair!

Anthony deFreitas

Watch Wes Lift

Steve Reese

Not frivolous, money in the bank.

Adrian Gadd

What a win! As a thought: On my lift, the dual extending arms actually touch when I turn them inwards and they do cherry picker things on occasion.

Anditainment

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. I'm glad to see you got some help on some of the heavy lifting. My dad was a former WWII Royal Canadian Engineer and could do amazing things himself, but every once in a while, a second set of muscles was handy. I think your skill set is amazing: carpentry, mechanical, electronic & video production. A modern Renaissance man.

Russell Middleton

Name of the video is easy: Big. Forkin’. Lift. Proceed.

Blake Field

It looks like a very handy forklift. You won the lottery on this one. And working brakes! its like a fairytale.

tommy bengtsson

I echo your 4 x Cool! The appearance of brake cleaner at @24:05 deserves a shout out from Rain Man Ray and from Eric O. Your trouble shooting and repair work were great. It's nice seeing your family and especially you son who's "coning up in the world" on a floor jack. I wish a God-blessed Merry Christmas to all and to all a Happy 2025.

Jeffry Blackmon

Merry Christmas, the smiles you supply are worth every £

Tim Allan

So good to hear you laugh and see you so happy! I would not describe this as a “frivolous” project. That forklift will be a very useful item to support other projects and I’m pretty sure you can sell it one day for significantly more than you paid. Thank you for the video and wishing you and your family a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Jeff Chandler

Back in the day we had new flywheel bolts shear off on a Detroit engine. Bogus bolts. The foreman reinstalled the flywheel with the old bolts. No further problem. In the 80's bogus motor mount bolts on a new Pete popped the heads off the bellhousing.

Roger Howell

Merry Christmas Wes! Thanks for all your work this year.

Noah

Spanners Wes.

Roger Howell

Get rid of the Gopro and go to a DJI action cam..........they work much better.

James Allen

Happy Christmas to you and all the family Wes, thanks for all the excellent videos this year. I live about 20 miles from the Perkins factory in the UK so if I can be of help with locating or shipping parts in the future don't hesitate to ask. As for the title, perhaps something a la B-52 nickname (BUFF) based, Big Ugly Failing Forklift, Big Ugly Forklift Flywheel or Big Ugly Fantastic Forklift?

Max Chaplin

I think that is just the cutest little cab. Love those 7t Hysters, but shame it doesn't have power shift for those class 4 forks. Love the videos! Have a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you and your family!

Micah Bottomley

Video could be called “I Bought a Bigger, Uglier Forklift” as an homage to the classic Big Ugly Forklift series. Even for viewers who haven’t seen that series, this title would still work since you open the video by expressing your need for a bigger forklift.

Carson Zimmerman

"You load 11-teen tons, what do you get?"

Marshall

Just what the Doctor order.... and no broken digits . Nice fix Wes.

Jon Koferl

Hmm. Heck with Sanford and Son - really date myself with the British original show - Steptoe and Son!

Patrick Hathaway

Great video. Merry Christmas. Looking forward to more WWW wit and wisdom!

Patrick Hathaway

Flywheel. Connection not found, Bluetooth transmission, or some wireless pun

Corey Brabant

Great video and Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family.

John OBrien

No kidding, local guy was in the shop literally today to get a Rockford twin disk adjustment collar faced on a rebuild, said they got a flywheel from an outfit in Texas, said the casting looked lousy and it was a 1/16" out, just like yours. must have been a bad batch from the big rock candy mountain. and stellar score on the shyster!

Greg

Long before my time.

Watch Wes Work

How about, I bought a Big Broken (Ugly) Forklift and fixed it.

TheOnespeedbiker

From broken ugly, to just ugly. By the way, i see nothing ugly.

Theo R.

Problem is your really dating yourself; you'd have to be a Boomer to even know who Fred and Lamont were, meaning Wes probably doesn't. But you're right it would have been right at home in their junk yard.

TheOnespeedbiker

A picture is worth a thousand words, so 'See-No-Evil-Monkey 🙈' immediately came to mind. 😊 ..... Perhaps 'This Video Sponsored by Sanford and Son" ... Thanks for the video... I will give a title some more thought. #WesForTheW
