Non-scam Sponsors
Added 2024-11-15 00:35:37 +0000 UTCI don't really want to do an outright sponsorship on my channel, but I'm not opposed to it if the fit is right. What are the least scammy sponsors you have seen? I have a feeling it will be a short list.

On the question of what to do with the robot logging machine, I expect you're right that donating back to the univeristy is best. But today I saw a remote-controled flail working on a steep road embankment. This kind of thing https://www.mdbsrl.com/eng/product/lv-600-pro/8/ . So putting a hydraulically driven flail on the front might make your machine more useful.

2024-12-02 18:06:11 +0000 UTCThose are just ads from YT, nothing to do- and no relationship - with the channel creator, they are purely ad space sold by YT (who takes 30%). Sponsors are embedded in the video and pay the creator directly, often tied into the story in some fashion, so your extension would not block them. Sponsorships will pay 5x what YT pays for placed ads, typically.

2024-11-29 21:53:39 +0000 UTC(late to the party) I use a browser extension to block sponsor sections in videos so don't really need to care, but I guess that I would prefer that you accept only sponsorships for products that you actually use. Ultimately however, I'm a realist, and if you need them to keep going, then grab them - I need your videos more than I need freedom from sponsors...

2024-11-17 18:23:07 +0000 UTCAny company that gives a product to review without any requirements, script or other strings attached will be the safe bet, I guess. This should rule out the worst offenders as the honest opinion on overpriced microwave meals or green goo should be "Who on their right mind would waste their hard earned money on this?". Especially since, we all probably have endless list of project ideas where to park any excess funds. I.e., if the product ad will reduce your audience's chances of self-expression do not take it. If you feel that the ad would help us to tinker, build, learn, understand, create, it is fine by me.

What I don't care for is someone lecturing me for 3 minutes about how poorly I eat and telling me I really need to drink some green goo.

2024-11-15 22:32:19 +0000 UTCI trust your judgement, but here’s my thoughts; stay away from medication or supplements, gambling, crypto, debt relief services, or knockoff websites like Temu. 2024-11-15 14:49:20 +0000 UTCLast pass got hacked two years ago and leaked everyone's pws. On that subject North American VPNs are on at best since only Swiss VPNs like proton and mullvad are truly secure and allow anonymous payments. But ifnyoyr just watching videos N A vpns work fine

Nprd VPN isn't a scam but, it can be a little misleading since VPNs in North America aren't all that safe/ secure like Swiss VPNs. So Nord is average at best like ray-con ear buds. 2024-11-15 14:35:01 +0000 UTCWes, here is the deal, when you take sponsors it helps you to create content, i think i can speak for everyone we take all "sponsor youtube comercials" with a grain of salt, so it comes down to math, who ever is willing to pay the most money, to get us the most content, and allow you to invest more into parts and projects and equipment, is best for EVERYONE, those whom take issue with this can FAST FORWARD!!!!

2024-11-15 13:51:33 +0000 UTCNord VPN or other respectable VPN suppliers. Ground.news (which assesses the bias in news outlets). Brilliant.org which has courses on science and engineering. 2024-11-15 13:44:34 +0000 UTCCheck on some of the veteran owned companies that sponsor youtube channels. Sadly not all the ones out there that say they are veteran owned or they give very little to veteran organizations.

2024-11-15 13:37:15 +0000 UTCThe only ones I really don't like are the health drinks, greens. etc. I've tried them over the years. They taste terrible and anyone who says they drink them everyday are just plain full of it. Any shop products or items are ok. BTW, I definitely WON'T be someone who'll consider you a sell out if you use sponsors. A man has to do what a man has to do.
Sammy Fender
2024-11-15 13:18:04 +0000 UTCThere is also Olsa Tools, decent importer. You can make "finish your own" welding project kits (not necessarily on your tables) if you can get them in a flat rate box. Or teach a scraping class, going rate is 2k a head.

2024-11-15 13:09:19 +0000 UTCIf possible stay away from the snake oil products. For me they tend to strip credibility for the show.
Joshua A Espinoza
2024-11-15 12:40:55 +0000 UTCMy own 2 cents, for what little it's worth. I think the way Eric O. handled it was right...if the sponsorship includes items you'd be using in the natural course of your work anyway (like a scan tool or a welder or whatnot) and you simply say "I was given this widget from ConHugeCorp to try out, let's see if it does as good a job as the one I usually use", that's about as painless a sponsorship as there is. It's when I'm watching a video about reviving a '72 Plymouth and the creator suddenly does a jump cut to a sponsorship ad about "masculine grooming devices" that I start seriously reconsidering my subscription status.
Chris Freemesser
2024-11-15 12:32:49 +0000 UTCBrilliant, KiwiCo, companies like that seem OK. I don't fast forward sponsorship messages but I do have an ad blocker because most YouTube ads seem like scams to me or are totally irrelevant. I don't mind sitting through sponsored segments that are relevant to the channel, but they have to sound genuine! Is it possible to have sponsor free videos for Patreons? It might encourage more to join, perhaps.

2024-11-15 11:27:02 +0000 UTCIt's getting really bad blowback on some of the channels I watch ATM - avoid like the plague IMO. Lots of comments around them not disclosing the ingredients etc.
David Yates
2024-11-15 08:31:55 +0000 UTCAs long as what you advertise is related to the channel’s content, it can work. Presenting a hand tool, a 3D printer, or something similar and having the integrity to criticize the products if they are not good, I think, can add value to the channel. But selling fast food would just be embarrassing. Better to have some sensible advertising than not being able to continue with the channel…
Ulf Bergstrand
2024-11-15 07:40:01 +0000 UTCSponsorships are annoying. The only ones I don’t fast forward threw are the Factor ads on the Aging Wheels channel. His ads are usually funny and sarcastic. One time he had a plate with one of their microwave dinners sitting on a pile of money. Honestly, a I’d at rather kick you a few more dollars a month in Patreon Pesos.
Jon Nierenburg
2024-11-15 06:42:50 +0000 UTCAs one of your non-USA resident viewers, sponsorship segments get the "fast forward" treatment more often than not as they aren't relevant to a UK viewer. Those that have products that are available, mostly tend to be the major shippers from sources that I try to avoid. Niche suppliers that have products you might mutually benefit from showcasing, but I expect they don't have the sort of budget to do ongoing sponsorship. Just as you'll never be able to please all of your viewers all of the time with your videos, whatever you decide on, at least try to leave any extended "Message from our Sponsor" segments defined enough we can skip them if they have no interest.

2024-11-15 05:30:29 +0000 UTCHaven't gotten around to completing my own project but the PCBs I ordered are actually car related. BitterCynic
2024-11-15 05:07:17 +0000 UTCTry asking some other YouTubers about their behind the scenes experience with their sponsors. Usually I just skip over the sponsorship segment of a video. One service I actually found useful that I've seen advertised on other channels is JLCPCB. I've tried etching my own PCBs and it was an interesting experience but it's not worth it when I can just have a batch made for cheap that has far better quality than anything I can DIY at home. Not sure how relevant it is for a car channel but it's on theme for electronics projects.
BitterCynic
2024-11-15 04:57:06 +0000 UTCYou should see if Orkin or some other pest control company would want to be a sponsor. You’d be able to segway naturally into an ad after mentioning your cheese eating friends and panning to Max… I think as long as you’re open and transparent about what is sponsored you’ll be fine. Yeah, having a sponsor that’s also a brand you can get behind is nice, but I think the mature adults of the internet can appreciate more $$$ == more WWW videos. I like the way Black Bear Forge does it, up front and honest. Just don’t pull an Abom…

2024-11-15 02:36:47 +0000 UTCFrom what I have seen, Wes, "Better Help" psychotherapy gets MAJOR negative feedback from commenters when they see it as a sponsor. Maybe that wasn't your intended direction, but it is worth knowing. On the other side, I watch Dean Doherty, a genius hand tool repairman in Ireland @deandohertygreaser and he promotes Makita tools, but never aggressively. It is always clear that he endorses it because they stand by their products and you can actually get parts for them. I like his style. Last, the way Map Men (@JayForeman) integrate sponsors into their videos is so good that you actually want to watch them. It's a lot of extra work, but you have a talent for humor and the cinematic mindset. (I have been a video editor for 30 years). Plus, Mrs. Wes is always a goo- humored foil for your foibles.

2024-11-15 01:33:11 +0000 UTCI know that Eric O recently accepted a Harbor Freight Icon scan tool in exchange for mentioning it and reviewing how it worked for him. I think it's was not a straight out sponsorship (I think his opinions are similar to your own on the subject) but he specifically mentioned he agreed to it on the understanding that he'd be honest in his assessment of the tool, good or bad. He's used it in quite a few videos since and his comments seem to indicate it's mostly on par with the verus he generally uses. He also mentioned in one of his most recent videos that it did not work out well for the job he was currently doing. So my thoughts are certainly something along those lines are great for your type of repair video type content, though obviously not as much for building an office loft. 😊

2024-11-15 00:54:23 +0000 UTCAlmost every sponsorship detracts from a channel, as an example Car Wizard is a great channel but his sponsorship gigs, have nothing to do with his channel and he reads copy verbatim; it's just plain horrible. If I was looking for a sponsor I would look for something directly related to your channel, such as work boots or tools you use through Amazon. Or some service you use that you have found beneficial.

2024-11-15 00:53:10 +0000 UTCsponsors for products you've used for a while and are useful to you are the best. stuff that you guys use on a regular basis are probably stuff I'd buy (like Mortske is using those cyclops lights...although not a sponsor, I bought one and they are awesome). among the list of youtuber I follow, some (farmcraft101, NNHK ...) are typically doing sponsors on products they've used a while and like. in other word, avoid the whole fake Scottish title crap that was around for a while....:-) now,....if you want to do a sarcastic sponsorship, have at it!...your sarcasm is why I am here..(among other things!)

2024-11-15 00:52:52 +0000 UTCPig did email me once. But just for "free" spill mats.

2024-11-15 00:52:31 +0000 UTCYeah that's the problem. Good companies don't need me to help them.

2024-11-15 00:50:16 +0000 UTCI have seen other u tubers using anchorlube and I tried it, seems to work good. Harbor freight. I have noticed u use some of their stuff. Some of its good some of its shit as long as your honest about the shit stuff no big deal. They seem cool with it too. You are not a tool snob and I think that plays well with your viewership

2024-11-15 00:50:15 +0000 UTCPlease don’t do better help or factor. I think Vevor may make some sense. Anker perhaps. Certainly Harbor Freight.

2024-11-15 00:48:34 +0000 UTCI'd look to your wife for companies that promote education?
Doug Wray
2024-11-15 00:48:03 +0000 UTCI guess what I’m asking are you interested in companies sending you products or monetary sponsorship?
Conner Wright
2024-11-15 00:47:34 +0000 UTCHow about Brunt Workwear? I did get a pair of boots from them after Fab Rats recommended them (and had a discount). And I have been happy with them. Of course, you could also maybe try New Glarus Brewing Co. (lol) You should also have higher dollar tiers available here on Patreon, for the handful of us that might think you are worth it.

2024-11-15 00:47:03 +0000 UTCI've seen a couple folks push AG1, but as a regular Joe Blow, I'm first-cost sensitive to stuff like that, it's expensive. Even a local sponsor is going to mean something to both of you vs some big faceless brand.
Adam McKnight
2024-11-15 00:45:40 +0000 UTCWhen you do get a sponsor, perhaps consider what Sail Life does. They release a video to their patreons that omit the sponsor content. I'm not sure who's offering to sponsor you, but hopefully it's relevant to your channel.
Tim Parsons
2024-11-15 00:45:27 +0000 UTCYou gotta be doing something particularly dangerous like replacing your garage doors and when one of the springs snap, you cut to the sponsored segment.
Nima Ostadkar
2024-11-15 00:44:49 +0000 UTCWes just keep on doing what you are doing. If we need a sponsor before, you would have felt it.

2024-11-15 00:43:55 +0000 UTCAG1 or those meal services seem neutral...price to actual value might be a bit off, but thats a buyer decision. I don't mind tool reviews as long as you disclaim that you were comped the tool or compensated in addition. The most important thing is it's something you are comfortable doing a live read or part of your content
Michael Stern
2024-11-15 00:43:33 +0000 UTCI’ve only heard good things about JLCPCB, PCBWay, SendCutSend, Brilliant, and Factor meals. Better Help, AG1, and some VPNs sometimes get the comment section angry, but in the end most people understand that creators gotta do what they gotta do.

2024-11-15 00:43:19 +0000 UTCHello Wes, You have built an excellent reputation among your followers by being honest. We trust you to make the right decisions when it comes to sponsoring any product. We would love to see videos of you testing various tools and products in your home or shop.

2024-11-15 00:43:10 +0000 UTCHave you heard of BetterHelp? Basically the opposite of that.

2024-11-15 00:42:44 +0000 UTCas long as they're legit and you don't have a cheesy bit like "it's been a long day so I'm going to stand at my microwave and pretend I eat these Factor meals because I'm always strapped for time" in the middle of the episodes like everone is doing now then I agree you should grab some sponsors and get in on that money... There were a couple some other channels had that I thought were good... Farmcraft101 has had Vevor for a while and it seems decent...

2024-11-15 00:40:42 +0000 UTCThey're all terrible. I wish more of your regular viewers would come here and give you a dollar a month!

2024-11-15 00:40:19 +0000 UTCRaid Shadow Legends? 🤣. But seriously appreciate your efforts to keep sponsorships limited to those you trust. Perhaps there's opportunities with businesses you use and trust personally?
