Dad Did It Again!

Another tractor left for dead. Let's see if it will start.

Sometimes there was frost on the insides of the windows. We had a boiler and radiators for heat, and the radiators were rarely warm.

Sue Rollinson

If we were smart we'd set it vertical so gravity could help.

Watch Wes Work

Well it's his project.

Watch Wes Work

My house was built in 1920. Drafty is right!

Watch Wes Work

We need closure

Brian

I love the old farmhouses! The house I grew up in was built in 1906. It was beautiful , but drafty and cold.

Sue Rollinson

always enjoy watching you and Wes SR get into more old iron adventures. good fun and always seem to find a way to complete the task.

Stephen mowrey

I think that Scott from CWM ties the brushes back with mechanic's wire when he's reassembling a starter.

Sue Rollinson

I see no matter how old and accomplished you are Dad still back seat drives telling you how to do it.

Steve

Good stuff Wes and Dad in the field.

Eric Corse

Good luck Wes πŸ™‚

Archie

I would have failed. Dad has the magic touch.

Watch Wes Work

Still dealing.

Watch Wes Work

It's neat to see you and your dad working together. You make a productive team.

Alan Savoy

Well???? Did he buy it???

Sammy Fender

I've taken many a starter apart trying to fix it but never succeeded. Glad to see that is indeed possible!

Jeff Richardson

120 seconds in, sharing a laugh with your dad.. Choked me up... I'm 63 and my dads been gone 30yrs.. but I remember those precious dad+son moments working on broken stuff...

Stephen

Someday dad will rotate around to it.

Watch Wes Work

I'd like to see a video on your grandmother's car. It's a beautiful car.

Sue Rollinson

Coming in hot!

Watch Wes Work

You can't really kill a 40 series John Deere. Although, they did lose one in a fire on this same property.

Watch Wes Work

We are thinking the tractor might be at just the wrong angle and water was running off the canopy right onto the starter. It also doesn't really have a drain hole like other starters I have worked on.

Watch Wes Work

lot of times its condensation from sitting, lot of mass in a starter or generator to stay cold when the warm humid air gets at them, then if they don't have any way for it to drain out it just keeps building up. Got an old hein werner hoe with a 4-53 detroit, starter must weigh 100 lbs, and every couple years when we go to use the thing its full of water again.

Greg

Thanks Wes, love to see you and your dad working together.

David Yates

Great video Wes. Kind of funny of your dad mentioning to rebuild the starter just to get it going. You used to be able to buy all the parts to rebuild starters and I remember buying a three diode tree? To rebuild the GM alternators. They didn't have a battery gauge just an idiot light and it's come on real dim if you're a belt was slipping or you're alternater needing attention. I can imagine you've learned a lot to things from your dad. I can't figure out how water got in the starter. Thanks Wes

James Phillips

Nothing like a WWW video to start one's Saturday!

CapnMac82

Spent lots of my childhood on a tractor just like that. I haven't been on it in 30 years but it still running around on that ground!!!

Aaron Windsor

Right!

Watch Wes Work

Yes, Rock Island. It's huge, and good at pinching fingers. But, it'll hold anything you want.

Watch Wes Work

I think it needs a few dabs of silly-cone.

Watch Wes Work

He's working on it. It's kind of an odd situation.

Watch Wes Work

I'll send it to him!

Watch Wes Work

He really knows this era of Deeres.

Watch Wes Work

I didn't either. He was confident, and he was right.

Watch Wes Work

I think so.

Watch Wes Work

I'm lucky to be able to work well with my dad. Not everyone can.

Watch Wes Work

Not bad at all!

Watch Wes Work

I think you're right!

Watch Wes Work

As soon as I saw the hammer hanging on the rear fender I thought the starter would need some attention.

Dale Marthaller

Dad has what looks like a Reed 106 pre WW2 vise. I'm jealous. I have the baby 104 model. Still works fine for being over 100 yrs old (1922) tho. Nope saw it better view. Dad has a Rock Island. Still some good stuff

David

Pretty decent shape overall. Hope y’all can negotiate a price agreeable for everyone. #1 is figure a way to keep water out of that starter in the future, aside from parking it under a cover.

Jeff Chandler

Did dad get it bought?

Reese

Tell your dad I know a really good video on how to sharpen drill bits https://youtu.be/7nI9n_Mudyg?si=xyojoHzKJMrsORm9

Anthony deFreitas

Great video. Pops seems to have some knowledge about old iron.

Matthew Jeffrey

Made my Saturday morning to see a WWW video! And a video with Dad πŸ’–πŸ’–πŸ’–

Dave

Great success! It's always fun watching you and your Dad work together. I didn't think that starter would work again, nice job on the rebuild. Stay warm!

Tim Parsons

Great work!

Paul Borchardt

Nice job guys!

Don Delagrange

That’s a nice tractor. Change all the bodily fluids ,get some hours on her, should make that lady a nice penny.

Drew

The entertainment value of your videos always increases when your father is involved. Same dry sense of humor and a great dynamic between you two. It's a pleasure to see you two spend time together.

South Street Barbecue

Not bad for a sunny winter afternoon.

Russell Middleton

I think the hammer on the fender was a clue that the starter had issues.
