Rhystic Cast #17 - The Bigger You Get, The Dumber Your Audience Gets

Today, I'm discussing the increasing desire in audiences for media experiences made by smaller teams of inspired creatives. In the face of AAA budgets and outrageous demands for returns on investment, what happens when you downsize and make something non-commercial and jagged and weird? What happens when you upload videos just to sell ads? What happens when you're eventually forced to kill what is no longer yours?

Media referenced in this episode:
homberguy - Plagiarism and (You)Tube
Omar and Cedric: If This Ever Gets Weird
No Clip - The Making of Pentiment
Noah Caldwell-Gervais - Diablo Franchise Retrospective

Music in this episode:
Stone Temple Pilots - Plush

The more I go through all your material and content, the more I have the perception that you are somehow a lighthouse to show me the direction I want to take for my life. A slow-paced, anxiety-free life. I am just rushing too much for a 28 yo guy. This cast touches relates to that when you say you value less content with quality than having to spit cheap and frequent content for ads and sponsorship. It is very common for people to fall into this trap and basically sell their essence for a place inside the giant algorithm wheel. This is one of the multiple reasons I like your stuff so much.

Man, the bigger you get the dumber the crewed who follows gets is so real. One of the biggest reason I love the youtube show is because of how much you humanize art, artists and the game mechanics. Its easy to be upset or worried about the gigantic social monster of copy paste plastic media, and I think we should be. But folks will always be drown to the small garage band (that passes the Turing test) which makes them feel something.
