Raath Sprite Process

Raath is a really weird, challenging character that Atlas and I both agree relies a lot on his visuals to properly convey his mental state and desires and we knew we'd have our hands full capturing his unhinged attitude.

I'm actually quite attached to the first two sketches as they show Raath's actually capable of not being an insane knife obsessed weirdo, though I love the cocky little glint to his eye in the second one- it shows that his personality is indeed intact.

The third sketch is part of Atlas' process with characters who are heavily scarred up and that's sort of throw everything on all at once and see what looks right. Raath was never meant to have so many details to his face in this way but it helped us both narrow down what scars do the most lifting in terms of visual storytelling. We did the same thing during Akello's development with facial piercings.

Another point I'd like to note is the last two drawings were actually done by my friend Birdie (@cvnvryarts). They're one of the OG Raath stans and their early work interpreting my descriptions and mannerisms really helped solidify in my mind what Raath should look like and I wanted to give them a shout out!
