Poverty draft guy over here. It’s not drones, most of the military is support. They changed the retirement, there’s no more pension.

I enjoyed this discussion and I think the core of this article/discussion is absolutely valid but man I gotta call out some extremely lazy analysis here that is feeding doomerist cope. "high unemployment in Europe led to fascism" ...only after a mass revolutionary workers movement gained and lost power repeatedly for YEARS. Fascism only became ascendant after the workers movement absolutely exhausted itself and was led to ruin. Also this argument that America is backwards because the industrial working class never gained an absolute majority of society...I mean common. I think the core truth of Draper's article that he both realizes and somehow misses is that in the absence of a mass working class movement there can only be sects. Anyone who thinks they're building something else is deluding themselves. The measure of success/failure of these sects is not in their ability to negate themselves as sects, but to train and educate working class militants that can bring ideological clarity and unity to the workers movement at key moments of revolutionary struggle. The issue is all sects except the Bolsheviks have failed to do this historically, have failed to understand the conditions in which they're organizing and have given up the long game. Like I think people forget that after 1905, even most of the Bolsheviks thought it was over. What led to victory in 1917 was that there were thousands of militants who had been trained in the schools of Bolshevism and Menshevism for like two decades. This is why they could draw the necessary conclusions and win over whole layers of the working class. Weighing in here as someone who has organized with for half a decade / plays a leading role in the RCI. The judge of any sect is how good of a training school it is. Does it produce hopeless sectarians, or does it produce class fighters with a broad horizon and an ability to actually communicate their politics effectively? The RCI is the only sect I have found that passes this smell test, which is why I find it particularly funny that it gets a callout in the episode.

58ish min mark

Sean spot on w the All Enclosed Publicly Private Spaces. Which is why NGO thinking is really linked to capitalist thinking, so it's pan-ideological in that sense. From the conservative church ministry to the micro sect front group, all are Democratically Participants in the logic of the budget and tax form.

Did Varn say "Fifth Commenters..." towards the end? If he did that's a fucking sick burn I love it.
