Here's a look at the prep work I did before writing my script about the man/car binary in Christine.
The germ of this script actually came from the Letterboxd review I wrote when I watched it back in January. You can even see I reused the language from that review in a couple places in my script. On my first watch of Christine I was already thinking about the Fast and Furious connection because I've had this man/car pet theory in relation to the FF franchise ever since I started watching them a few years ago. Originally I wanted to do a much larger video about that entire franchise but it felt like it would be more approachable to come at it this way. Maybe one day I will make another FF video though. I'd like to!
After deciding I wanted to flesh out that review into a script I did what I normally do which is watch the movie and take notes on everything that happens in it, along with timestamps. This is helpful because it helps me remember things that might come up in the essay, and also because later on during editing, when I need to pull up specific clips, I have the timestamps written down already. Here is a Google doc with my timestamped notes: https://docs.google.com/document/d/e/2PACX-1vQa137fqAYOrVi_3wLdPwH3vwjaoNZxFdXehK7CLtwZlt7RU7IHLPSnXdRqbQGTMiQXRd7fRse9FAvC/pub
You can see I highlighted a few things I thought might be relevant, including every song that plays on the radio—this was because as I was watching I started to notice the point about Dennis playing songs sung by women and Christine playing songs sung by men. Unfortunately I don't think I reviewed these notes much beyond looking back for specific things like that, because reviewing this doc now I'm noticing a couple dialogue clips I could have used as well. Oh well!
Finally I wanted to share these doodles I did while brainstorming where I wanted to go with the script. Sorry about my handwriting. You can see the love triangle/rectangle line came out here when I was sketching out the relationships between the key players. And, uh, I also drew a cube for some reason. beep beep!
