Have you noticed any change the sort of subjects you find yourself interested in Baseball Bits covering as you age? As a viewer, I've felt a subtle shift towards stories with a more human element to them.

2025-03-04 20:41:12 +0000 UTCHi Bailey, what’s your outlook for Royce Lewis short and/or long term? I’m starting to get a bit of a fragile Gleyber Torres vibe from him, high power potential, struggle to find a good defensive home, just curious what you think

2025-03-03 22:37:20 +0000 UTCHey Bailey just want to ask you to take a look at my twitter DM to you about the WAR league I mentioned a couple months back, thanks. Personally I love to score and I'd be curious to know if you enjoy it as well, also shoutout @MLBScoringChanges on Twitter

2025-03-03 19:38:28 +0000 UTCHey Bailey! Who are some players that you think will have an out of nowhere breakout season? Relievers, starters, and/or position players; can’t be someone with previous success as a full-time player in the majors, just journeymen, role players, players who are considered busts or never reached their potential, or prospects that aren’t highly ranked. Basically this season’s Jurickson Profar.

2025-03-03 19:22:28 +0000 UTCHello Bailey, I would love to hear your thoughts on the current health of baseball as a sport. My whole life people have been talking about how baseball is dying, but college students across America are flocking to college baseball games and maybe it’s my own personal bias, but social media seems full of young people going to MLB games to eat a hot dog and drink a beer. I know attendance numbers have been fortifying every year since the pandemic ended. That’s being said blackouts are still an issue and I believe ESPN sabotaging their baseball coverage is not a positive for the league. Do you think the future of baseball is healthy?

2025-03-02 22:42:45 +0000 UTCHey Bailey! What is your input on the Red Sox situation? Alex Bregman is having an amazing spring when writing this (3/2/25). He's 5 for 10 with an OPS creeping towards 1.400 (small sample, but still mashing). Kristian Campbell has been struggling to get things going. 0 for 11 with little plate discipline (8 K's to 2 BB's). Should it be time to start considering that Bregman should be the Opening Day 2B and Campbell should remain at AAA? Should he Kristian Campbell hype die down? Does this put Devers in a better position to keep his 3B role even though he is terrible defensively? Let me know!

2025-03-02 22:28:39 +0000 UTCHi Foolish. Is there a pitcher today who profiles similar to Marco Estrada (low fastball velo, extreme fly-ball ball pitcher, and not very K-heavy)?

2025-03-02 21:26:33 +0000 UTCHi Foolish, as I’m sure you’re aware, the dominant perspective in baseball journalism (particularly on the national level) is that of “I’m not a particular fan of any team, I just report relatively neutrally”. In general I think this view has a lot of upside, but I found it coming up a bit short recently. In the wake of the Sasaki signing, the media landscape didn’t really seem to be able to effectively address fans’ frustration with LA’s dominance in the FA market. There was a lot of “all teams can do this, be mad at your own ownership for not doing it” takes going around. This is technically true but it doesn’t really address that most fans are mad about their ownership but remain essentially powerless to change anything about that. At the time, I felt that a lot of the reporting was fairly callous toward a lot of fans’ frustrations with the situation. Are situations like this just a matter of having the lesser of two evils when it comes to reporters’ voices coming through in the media? I don’t think that Passan should’ve been out there writing about how he’s done with baseball until there’s a salary cap, but is there a middle route that more honestly deals with the frustration that a lot of people in the fanbase are feeling without becoming overly emotional about it?

2025-03-02 13:57:03 +0000 UTCHi FB, Patrick Bailey of the Giants over the last 2 years has really dropped off in the second half. First half the savant will all be red, then he'll go 1/50 at the plate. I'm aware the Giants have had a dodgy backup catcher situation, but have you ever seen players overcome the long season dropoff in offensive production? If he's not catching as much as possible then he's not accruing that sweet sweet dWAR so I know the Giants want him out there.

2025-03-02 03:31:27 +0000 UTCHi Bailey. With Wagner finally making the Hall of Fame, I was curious if there were any other relievers you believe belong in the Hall? I know you've mentioned Tom Henke and Joe Nathan in the past and have said you could be convinced of a case for K-Rod.

2025-03-02 02:52:04 +0000 UTCThoughts on an MLB rule change to incentivize pitching behavior that will reduce the rate of throwing arm injuries and increase starting pitcher innings thrown? For example, stuff like keeping your starter in for 5 innings or lose the DH (https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/40847173/mlb-rule-changes-2024-six-inning-starting-pitcher-injuries-tommy-john). Do you think MLB can realistically make reductions in TJ surgeries through rule changes (the above example or otherwise), or are we too far along the 'velocity at any cost' path?

2025-03-01 23:08:36 +0000 UTCThe next two years have a really weak group of first-year Hall of Fame candidates. How do you see that affecting the guys currently on the ballot? Andruw, for example, has really stagnated the last couple of years, but does the lack of other options drag him across by year 10? Does Utley make huge gains by 2027?

2025-03-01 20:08:06 +0000 UTCHi Foolish! In an era of pitcher load management I’ve gotten a weird fascination with pitches per plate appearance. Fun sort of impossible to answer question: let’s say there’s a corner outfielder who’s a league average hitter and defender. BUT he’s guaranteed to have 8 pitches per plate appearance (just over double the mlb average most years), regardless of outcome. How valuable might this player this be?

2025-03-01 20:07:49 +0000 UTCWhy do we often hear about free agents not wanting to play for a team with a hitter/pitcher-friendly park (for pitchers & hitters respectively)? Surely they & their agent realize that teams have more than enough sophistication to (and certainly will) evaluate their performance in the context of their ballpark.

2025-03-01 19:56:22 +0000 UTCI've always thought that if a pitcher commits an error that leads to a run that it should still count as an earned run since the mistake is on the pitcher. Is there a flaw to this logic?
