Ban Together Chapter 35
Added 2022-11-27 22:44:56 +0000 UTCAlice watched as Bella laughed at something Kate had said. Jane scowled in the background; whatever joke was told was likely at her expense. Alice watched as Bella was casually leaned against Jane on the couch but the focus of her vision remained on Kate Denali. Alice wasn’t sure when the scene she was watching would take place. It could happen later that day or for a few weeks; unfortunately her visions rarely came with a time stamp.
“There are just a few loose ends and then we can put everything behind us.” Bella said with a smile, seemingly not wanting to encourage Kate on whatever joking spree she had been on. Alice was glad to no longer have to deal with Kate Denali. In many cases she was worse than Emmett because Kate had no filter and didn’t care what the Cullen’s thought of her. It annoyed Alice to no end. Well, Alice truly didn’t mind the banter but a lot of the jokes were at Jasper’s expense and that was something Alice didn’t enjoy one bit.
“As far as you’re concerned, nothing else will happen to you.” Jane promised and Alice wanted so badly to prove her wrong.
Alice was growing frustrated with not being able to continue having her fun. They needed to stay under the radar and unfortunately with humans now being able to communicate over vast distances so freely, she was limited in what she could do without being caught. She was getting bored.
Jasper was insistent to not always rely on her gift, as it wasn’t infallible. As much as it pained Alice to watch her choices of picking random families to do experiments on, she let them slip past her because her mate asked her to. As much as Alice wanted to ignore his warnings, there was a reason she and Jasper were safe in Canada and Carlisle and Esme were going to get killed soon. Jasper hadn’t lived through the Mexican Newborn Wars without learning very key survival tactics. She trusted her mate to keep them safe and she wouldn’t do anything to make it harder; no matter what she saw in her visions and how safe her visions said her actions would be.
“Your mother will get all the information she needs from Carlisle and from there, the guard will be dispatched and tie up any loose ends.” Jane promised Bella.
Alice rolled her eyes. She knew she and Jasper were the ‘loose ends’ Jane was talking about. But they wouldn’t catch them. With Jasper on her side and with her visions, they would be fine. Yes, she may figuratively die of boredom but at least in that time she could come up with new experiments and different ways to avoid being caught by the humans and vampires alike. Alice was confident she and Jasper would be fine.
“They might be harder to get to than Carlisle and Esme because of their gifts,” Kate cautioned, “But no one can hide from the Volturi for long.” She said with a smirk and a wink towards Jane.
Her vision faded out to a snow-covered landscape void of human life. Jasper was standing next to her, ready to hear what her vision was about.
“They are looking for us.” Alice told him right away, “They are going to get Carlisle and Esme like I knew they would.” She had a vision of Carlisle and Esme being caught before they had even parted ways. The mated pair were always doomed to be caught and Alice didn’t care to tell either of them. She knew if they had made some decisions differently then they might have been able to avoid the Volturi’s radar, even with them having Bella, but in the end, they were always going to get executed. All Alice really cared about was when they would get caught and how far away she and Jasper would be. “I think we’ll be fine.” Alice added. There was nothing in her vision that told her they even knew where she was. The only thing her vision warned her against was that Esme and Carlisle were going to get caught.
She hoped she would get a vision of any questioning of Carlisle and Esme, or at least of Sulpicia explaining what she saw from touching them, that would be the best way for them to know how much the Volturi knew about where they were. As much as Alice and Jasper tried to keep a lot of things hidden from the couple, they had Edward in their pocket, so they weren’t able to hide nearly as much as they would have preferred. But they still had a few tricks up their sleeves to remain off the radar.
“When we reach my friends, I’m sure with his gift, we will be fine.” Jasper was confident his friends would help him. He would call it repaying the life debt they owed him. Afterall, if it wasn’t for him, neither of them would be alive right now. He knew they didn’t agree with what Alice did and frankly, with Jasper’s gift, he didn’t like it much either. But Alice was his mate and what she did made him happy because it made her happy. And that was more than enough reason for him to protect her experiments.
Alice hadn’t met these friends of his and as much as she wanted to believe Jasper wouldn’t lead her astray, she actually knew he wouldn’t but that was besides the point, she had no idea about his friends. For as much as Jasper was talking them up, he had never once mentioned them to her. Even before they met the Cullen’s, Alice hadn’t heard of these friends. She thought they knew everything about each other but clearly, Jasper was holding back. She wouldn’t hold it against him of course, she had no reason to. But that didn’t mean she wasn’t going to be watching these so-called friends like a hawk with and without her visions to make sure they didn’t do anything shady.
“They should be here within the next day or so.” Jasper told her as they came to stop not far from where Alice had received her vision. “We’ll wait here and then between you and Peter, we’ll know exactly what we need to day to stay safe for the immediate future and past that, you’ll know how best to keep us safe.” Jasper said with a more pronounces Southern drawl he knew his mate loved to hear from him. He knew Alice was upset that he had held back information about Peter and Charlotte from her but he had no choice. After the war, and especially since he had convinced everyone they were dead, he figured it was safer to just not mention them unless he needed to. His mate would get over it, he was sure.
Alice looked around the forest they were in. They had just hunted a human the previous day so they would be fine as far as food was concerned for a little while. But Alice didn’t like not having modern comforts like a hotel room and bathrooms to take long baths in. She knew Jasper was used to it and likely more than okay with it, but she didn’t remember not having modern luxuries except from the first few months after she was turned and she didn’t count those times because she was a newborn.
Before even asking her question, she received a quick vision of she and Jasper, as well as two other vampires she didn’t know, checking into a hotel near Yellowknife. It wasn’t exactly a five-star hotel with lots of shopping centers around, but she would take what she could get.
“I’ll think we’ll be fine.” Alice said with a wide smile, Jasper smiling back as he was happy his mate was happy.
All they had to do now was wait for their friends and then between Alice and Peter, they would iron out how to keep away from any Volturi hunters. With Alice’s visions and Peter’s knowing, they could talk about as many plans and fallback options as needed until everything came together smoothly and Jasper and Alice both were confident they were safe. Then they would part ways once again, only this time Jasper wasn’t sure he would see his friends again. He knew they would never approve of what Alice did but that was their problem. Jasper was calling on their debt owed and their pride wouldn’t let them pass up the chance to clear it. After that though, as long as Alice kept doing what she did to humans, she was sure Peter and Charlotte would want nothing to do with them. But that was fine, as long as Jasper had Alice, it was okay.
