Give Into Us Chapter 20

She had tried to slip away once Heidi and Bella were in Bella’s bed cuddled together, Bella supposedly lost in her own thoughts. Jane was going to leave via the front door so as to not distract her mate from whatever thoughts she was having but whenever she touched the doorhandle to leave, Bella asked her to go back to cuddle.
Every. Single. Time.
Quite frankly it was pissing Jane off. She wanted to go do something. Every instinct in her was screaming at her to get retribution but as simple gesture from her mate to go cuddle and Jane caved immediately and sat next to her. She refused to lay down because it would seem like she was completely giving up on getting Jacob. The little smirks Heidi would send her, knowing the seductress was mentally telling Jane how whipped she was, also didn’t help convince Jane to cave.
Bella wanted to be with her mates and Jane had no choice but to obey. How could she not anyways? Her mate wanted her comfort; that was something no one had ever wanted from her before because, well, she do the whole ‘comfort’ thing. But to have her mate there, repeatedly asking for whatever comfort Jane’s presence gave her, well, Jane would always submit.
Thankfully it hadn’t taken Heidi long to worm out of Bella what had made her so upset. It had taken a little time for Bella to assure both vampires she was okay; just had a really sore hand. She didn’t think it was sprained, just really bruised. She figured if it was still really bad the next morning or looking/feeling worse, then she might do something about it. In the meantime though, she didn’t think it was worth going to see someone about. She was more worried about making sure Heidi and especially Jane didn’t murder Jacob.
But Bella didn’t want payback. She wanted someone to teach Jacob a lesson that you couldn’t just do that to a girl and then get upset when she gets angry about it. She knew her vampires weren’t the ones to give that lesson though. He wouldn’t care and the rest of the pack would retaliate against most anything they would do to Jacob. Since it involved Jane, they were very likely to cause a lot of pain and possibly lose a limb or two. Bella didn’t want that.
She knew who would be perfect for it though.
It was why she hadn’t let Jane leave yet and hadn’t tried to distract herself with anything but her thoughts. What hurt Bella the most was the break of trust with Jacob. She would never trust to be with him alone again. She was worried she may never trust to be around men in general if she ever got creepy vibes from them. She didn’t want that to happen and it just pissed her off that Jacob would break her trust like that for not just him but basically all men.
She briefly thought about calling the queens and asking Sulpicia to do something to get back at Jacob that didn’t physically hurt him and didn’t hurt his family. Some mind game thing she was sure the queen was good at. But she didn’t want to call them and risk them demanding she be sent back to Voltera before she was ready. She knew calling anyone from Voltera and letting them know what happened wouldn’t end in her best interest much less what she wanted. So, she scratched that idea nearly as soon as she had it.
Then she thought of the two girls she spent a lot of time with on the reservation. She thought of Emily and how much control she had over the pack even though she wasn’t a shifter herself. Bella was sure the woman would still have as much power even if she wasn’t the imprint of the alpha. Emily was always scolding the boys about manners and treating people respectfully. Bella always heard about the lectures and ‘punishments’, which were really just boring and hard chores, the woman gave to pack members when they misbehaved or didn’t control their anger like they all liked to claim they could.
Then she thought of Leah. Leah purposefully made the boys rethink their thoughts about women in general. Since they all had the pack mind link, Leah let all the boys know exactly what she thought about when the boys ‘were just being boys’ and being disrespectful towards women. Since Sam hadn’t been very good about breaking up with Leah when he met Emily and could have handled the whole thing differently, Leah let them all know exactly what it felt like to be treated as a woman and being told they couldn’t do things because of being female. Initially it had all pissed the boys off, having to hear the ‘feminist’ views about how all men were evil but eventually, they were slowly starting to see how men seem mostly seem to automatically think lesser of women.
If Bella told both Emily and Leah what Jacob had done, the two women not only get back at Jacob for Bella, but they would be able to get Jacob to feel what Bella had felt. They would make sure Jacob looked at his actions from Bella’s point of view, not his own.
She was about ready to finally stop laying on Heidi and to ask Jane verbally not to do something as she had a plan, but Heidi beat her to talking.
“I know you’re still sorting through your thoughts, but there is someone, a human, coming to the door.” Heidi advised as she slowly sat the two of them up. Jane had already escaped once again to attempt to get to the door to leave again.
“It’s fine, I figured out what I wanted to.” Bella said with a smile, “Thank you for being here with me though with I thought through everything.” Bella said towards both women as she started to make her way downstairs.
The doorbell rang just as she hit the first step down.
“What did you figure out?” Heidi asked as she and Jane followed their mate downstairs. They were loathe to have their mate out sight if not necessary; like getting back at Jacob for example. Their mate seemed calm now, they just wanted to make sure it stayed that way.
“What I want to have happen to Jacob.” Bella easily answered. She knew there would be a lot of convincing on her part for Jane, and possibly Heidi, to not maim the boy but Bella really felt her plan was best. Emily and especially Leah with the mind link, would never let Jacob forget what he did. They would make sure he truly learned his lesson and treated women better.
Bella opened the door to see one of Charlie’s detectives on the other side. What would he be doing at their house, Bella was sure Charlie was at work until later that evening. He had been trying to help the Seattle police help with the disappearances and had sent a few of his guys up there. Thankfully Bella knew Charlie’s larger workload from having fewer people would end soon since Heidi tried to distract her with regaling her with all the details about the fight. Heidi had started to tell Bella anything and everything to get her to calm down and telling Bella her current biggest threat was dead had slipped out almost immediately when they got home.
“I think Charlie’s still at the office.” Bella said with a smile, amused that one of Charlie’s detectives couldn’t find the chief of all people.
Heidi and Jane had slinked to the side so the human couldn’t see them. They would talk more about what Bella wanted to do once the lost human was sent on his way.
The detective nervously wrang his hand through his cropped hair, not all happy to have drawn the short straw. He didn’t know Bella personally but he knew of her. He knew how much Charlie loved Bella and knew the chief would have wanted one of their own to tell her before she saw anything on the news. Because, while what happened wasn’t necessarily big to big city folks, in their small town, the news would likely be there soon to get a quote from Bella.
“What’s wrong?” Bella asked, her smile dropping the longer the detective didn’t say anything. “What happened?” She asked when he still seemed to struggle to come up with words.
Bella felt tears start to prickle her eyes. She knew Charlie didn’t necessarily have the safest job in the world. But they were such a small town where most dangerous things to happen were stop sign runners and jay walkers. Nothing ever happened in Forks. But they wouldn’t have sent a detective if everything was okay. She wouldn’t have a house call if Charlie was still in his office doing paperwork.
“I’m so sorry Bella.” The man finally said, keeping his voice nice and firm. The two vampires in the house though, they could hear how nervous he was. They could hear how much he didn’t want to be there. “There’s been an accident.”
Bella had to mentally tell herself not to roll her eyes. Of course there was an accident. He wouldn’t be there at her house if everything was okay and Bella highly doubted something would have happened for to be there on purpose.
“Please, just tell me what happened.” Bella said, she knew her keys were still in her pocked. She just needed to know which hospital Charlie was at, the one in Forks or if they had to take him to Port Angeles. The second she knew where her dad was, she would be on her way. She may even just let Heidi drive to get there that much faster.
“Charlie was doing patrol, letting one of his guys catch up on some paperwork.” The detective finally told her, “Charlie was driving past an intersection with a green light when someone sped through and slammed right into him.” He explained. He almost added that the drive was drunk but he didn’t think that was an important detail to Bella right then. She would find out eventually anyways.
“Where. Is. He?” Bella asked as the blood drained from her face, her hand gripped the doorhandle so tight she was afraid she would break the old thing. She felt cold hands wrapped around her fist, Heidi no in sight of the detective but neither of them cared, and allowed Bella told hold onto her hand for strength.
The detective knew to wisely not ask who Heidi was or comment on how beautiful she was.
“He didn’t make it.” The detective quickly said, watching as Bella fell backwards into the woman. He reached out a hand to help steady Bella, thinking the woman wouldn’t be able to physically support the weight but he quickly drew back his hand when he thought he heard the woman growl. Well, at least it seemed like the woman was able to hold Bella up just fine, he’ll just keep to himself as he suddenly felt a very strong need to run away. “He was pronounced at the scene. The paramedics said it would have bene instant.” The sudden fury he felt coming from the woman Bella was with made all protocol and procedures leave his mind. The only thing he could think of was to get away and to get away fast. “The M.E. Will have more details if you want it, we’ll forward it to you. Someone will come by tomorrow to discuss what to do with his body.” Technically the detective knew he should have taken Bella to the M.E.’s office and have everything taken care of there but he couldn’t stand being there any longer. Frankly, he wanted nothing to do with that woman, never wanted to see her again. He practically ran to his car and left; he would at least make sure someone else came out tomorrow to give Bella more information.
Bella kept staring off at where the detective had just driven off. She felt like she wasn’t even in her body as she watched Heidi pull her back inside the house and close the door. She couldn’t hear either her or Jane when they asked her questions, she just allowed them to let her sit down on the couch, her eyes unblinking. Charlie was supposed to be safe; being a cop in such a small town was supposed to be safe. Nothing ever happened to cops there. Charlie was supposed to be safe.
Bella couldn’t separate her thoughts from anger at Charlie for not keeping to his word, sorrow for what she had just heard and even a small part of her brain momentarily thought about how two men in one day broke her trust in them. She had trusted both men to keep her safe and to keep themselves safe and they had both failed her.
Heidi cupped Bella’s face in her hands, both Jane and Heidi getting as close as possible, their worry growing as Bella continued to say nothing and only stared straight ahead. Jane pulled out her phone to call the queens, truly worried about what they needed or even could do to help while Heidi kept trying to her their mate to focus on her.
As the phone was picked, just after the first ring, and before anyone on the other side could say anything, Bella put her attention to the phone, saying the only thing she could think of that would help.
“I want Didyme.” She said before full out crying and collapsing into Heidi.
Heidi did her best to calm her mate while Jane immediately had to tell the queens they hadn’t done anything and what exactly was going on. Within seconds it was decided, Sulpicia would stay to govern, even though she was quite pissed off to be the one left behind, Athenodora would go to make sure to keep everyone, namely just Bella and Didyme, safe after what had happened with Bella and Jacob and Didyme would answer her daughter’s demands.
Didyme hadn’t even waited for the others to figure out what was going before she raced to her room to pack three bags, one for each queen, so they could leave immediately. Her daughter was in tears asking for her, Didyme would break any and all laws to get to her. She would soon have her daughter in her arms and she would be damned if anyone tried to stop her or slow her down.
