One Shot Twilight: Bella/?

Bella watched as the doors opened in what almost seemed like theatrically slow motion. She was sitting with people that had practically gravitated towards her since she first stepped foot in the new school. While Bella was thankful she had people to hang out with for the last year and a half of her high school career, she was now briefly thankful they were such gossipers. She wasn’t a gossiper herself, but since she was the new student with a bunch of students that had all grown up together and rarely had any newcomers. Since she was sitting with the self-proclaimed gossip queen, Bella didn’t need to say anything for Jessica to start off explaining everything she knew about who the Cullen’s were.

“They do seem very perfect.” Bella said when Jessica finally paused for Bella to comment. There wasn’t much she could say.

“They think they are.” Jessica said with a frown, almost a sneer. “But don’t waste your time with any of them, they’re all like, together, together.” She explained, then added when Bella didn’t react how they thought she would. “They’re all dating each other; it’s kinda gross.”

“I think it’s hot.” Mike said with a wolfish and very creepy grin. Bella narrowed her eyes at him, but he was too engrossed in his ogling to pay any attention to pay any attention to what she was doing.

“Yeah, to be living together and dating like that.” Lauren said with a roll of her eyes, “What were their parents thinking of letting something like that happen?”

“It’s like Dr. and Mrs. Cullen are matchmakers; they all look so cute together and totally in love.” Angela pitched in before Jessica could comment, “Do you think they would adopt me and I could find my soulmate?” Angela asked with an exaggerated dreamy look, causing most of the table to laugh and thankfully breaking the bad talking going on.

“It’s seems they were lucky Dr. Cullen adopted them then.” Bella said as she continued to look at someone in the group that looked eerily familiar.

“Don’t waste your time.” Jessica cautioned, taking Bella’s attention away from the blonde she had been eyeing. “Edward doesn’t think anyone here is good enough for him. Apparently all of us are below his standards.” She said with a sneer.

“Okay, I’ll keep that in mind.” Bella quickly agreed. It wasn’t him that had her attention, it was his ‘brother’, Jasper, that she thought was familiar. It wasn’t that she thought she knew the man, she knew he was far older than he claimed, but it was from stories she had heard for years that she was mostly positive she found Major Whitlock. She would have to ask after school.

The rest of lunch went back to normal when Angela, who would be in her next class with her, opted to let her know where they were in class. Bella hadn’t taken Biology in Phoenix so thought it would be fun to take in Forks. She wasn’t a fan of science classes, much preferring English, so she was thankful Angela was willing to share her notes.

After lunch, she followed Angela to Biology, only starting to pull the paper all her teachers had to sign when she got into the room. She had forgotten she needed them to sign it because she thought it was a waste of time. Wouldn’t the attendance sheet show she had shown up to her first day of classes?

“Her you go Bella, luckily we have one seat left.” The teacher said as he handed back the slip of paper. “Edward, can you raise your hand please so Bella can find her seat easier?”

Bella turned to find her seat and had to pause for just a second as she realized she was going to be sitting next to a Cullen. She had been lucky all day to not have a Cullen in any of her other classes and now, her luck had apparently run so dry she had to sit next to one.

As she moved closer to her seat, she saw the boys’ eyes quickly go from a strange golden color to pitch black eyes. She knew what that meant. There were several reasons why his eyes would be black and most of the time, she loved to see her vampire’s eyes go black because it always meant a very good time was about to happen. His eyes going black though? She knew it meant she was in trouble and there was nothing she could do about it because she was expected to go to her seat like any other student.

She slowed her movements and made sure to avoid eye contact. As soon as she was sitting, she sent one simple text message because even though there was nothing she could do, there was a lot her girlfriend could do and she would likely have pleasure in doing it if Edward even stared at her the wrong way. Her vampire was a bit on the over-protective side and quite frankly, Bella thought it was hot. In this instance, she was thankful she knew her vampire wouldn’t have any problems with these vampires and keeping them in control. The only problems Bella would run into later was making sure to keep Charlie out of the loop.

The entire class she was on edge; not as much as the vampire next to her but she honestly didn’t care how he felt. She was only concerned about him losing control and attacking her. She had no idea if he normally lacked control and was normally on edge all the time or if Bella was just one human too many to be around for him.

By the time class was over, Bella was sure she was going to have some muscle pain from being so tense during the entire class. She was very thankful when Edward left the class so quickly it was boarding close to being too fast for a human to move. She kept her movements calm because even though she couldn’t see the vampire, it was still very likely the vampire could see her. It was better safe than sorry to make sure she moved carefully so as to not put the vampire in hunter mode; at least more so than he could be at that moment. She really hoped the vampire would take this time to leave the school and get control over himself again.

Bella was thankful Biology was the only class she shared with a vampire. She had received near constant texts from her vampire demanding to know her status; there were several times she had almost been caught on her phone during class. She knew that if she hadn’t responded during class, or if she had another vampire in one of her classes, her vampire would have figured out a way to get to Bella to get her to leave the school. She didn’t want to get on Charlie’s shit list so soon in the school year for ditching on her first day of school; there would be plenty of other days where she knew she would ditch to be with her vampire, so she wanted to save getting in trouble for those times.

She was quickly texting her vampire to convince her to wait for her at home instead of storming the school when she walked into the office. As she looked up from her typing, she immediately stopped walking and what she was in front of her.

Edward was arguing with the secretary to get out of Biology, to change classes.

Bella wanted to be annoyed that he was trying to get out of class instead of having his ‘father’ do it, which would have likely returned much different results. But instead of annoyance, she was getting pissed. How was this vampire so stupid to have lost such control of himself during class and decide that it was okay for him to stay on school grounds? Did he really think so highly of himself that he could be safe to be around humans after clearly having to fight himself not to kill their entire class? Bella was sure her vampire would want to speak with the coven leader soon after she got the full story from Bella, she hadn’t told her vampire that Edward had lost so much control only that there were golden eyed vampires at school.

While Edward kept arguing with the secretary about changing classes, Bella practically stomped her way to the secretary and all but slapped the signed paper on the counter.

“Here you go Ms. Cope, all my teachers signed it.” She said as the woman practically jumped out of her seat from the sudden sound. Edward stiffened next to her and Bella secretly hoped he was going through torture in not attacking her; served him right for still being at the school. Hopefully word wouldn’t get back to her vampire about this stunt though, Bella would end up on the wrong end of a very long lecture otherwise. “I really enjoyed all my classes, I hope you have a good day.” She said, emphasizing the word ‘good’, to try and rub it into Edwards face.

Bella didn’t wait for Ms. Cope to say anything, she quickly turned around and walked as fast as she could to not be considered jugging to get back to her truck. She waved briefly to her new friends, quickly saying Charlie was expecting her since it was her first day so she wouldn’t have to stay and be social when an anxious vampire was waiting for her at her house.

She drove as fast as she dared to go with her new truck. Thankfully she didn’t get stuck at any redlights and only had a couple stop signs that delayed her. As soon as she drove in front of her house to park, she could see her vampire staring her from an upstairs window before quickly disappearing from view. Bella was mentally bracing herself to have to calm down an upset and distraught, not that she would ever admit it, vampire.

With a deep breath, Bella opened her door and quickly moved inside. No sooner was the door open was she suddenly pulled into her vampires embrace, her face tucked snuggly against Bella’s neck as her vampire found comfort of Bella’s safety.

Her vampire had already, thankfully, closed the door, so Bella just dropped her backpack and returned the embrace.

“Hey, I’m okay.” Bella comforted her distraught vampire. Her vampire was definitely protective and to have Bella so close to other vampires meant Bella was in possible danger where technically her vampire couldn’t get to her.

“I hate that you want to finish school.” Her vampire said before running them up the stairs and to Bella’s room to lay on her bed. Bella had once mentioned how uncomfortable it got when she stood for too long when her vampire just wanted to hold her. From then on, her vampire was quick to get them to lay down; it was sweet how careful her vampire was to keep in mind everything Bella said no matter how insignificant.

In her vampire’s time, women didn’t go to school. And then as a vampire, she had perfect memory so she still didn’t need school because she could learn so quickly. It was something her vampire had argued with Bella about, for Bella to drop school, have her vampire whisk her away someplace safe and faraway from her old life and wait for Bella to be closer in age to her vampire before turning her. Her vampire argued that once Bella was turned, she would be able to learn anything and everything she dreamed of. No matter how tempting it was, Bella was quite ready to leave her family. She knew she would eventually to be with her vampire, but she wasn’t ready just yet.

“I know.” Bella said with a fond smile. Bella took a deep breath, breathing in her vampire’s scent to give her strength for what she was about to do. “I need you to promise me that after what I’m about to tell you, that you are not allowed to leave me alone. You can not leave my side, no matter how upset you get. I don’t want to be alone without you.” She added the last part in a near whisper. After seeing how close to losing it Edward was and what she had done just before leaving school grounds, Bella was actually a little worried about the vampire coming to seek revenge or to just satisfy his bloodlust with her. So, she didn’t want to be caught without her vampire near her, not until they had a plan to keep her safe from Edward.

Thankfully her vampire seemed to pick up on the seriousness of what Bella was about to say and how scared Bella was. Whatever the threat was, Bella knew her vampire would protect her.

“You are mine and I will never allow you to feel unsafe.” Her vampire squeezed Bella just a little tighter, making sure they were completely flush against each other.

Bella told her everything. She told her vampire about the Cullen’s and the rumors around school about them. She told them how they ‘pretended to eat lunch’ by just buying and wasting the food and not touching it. She told her how she was in class with one of them.

And she told her how Edward nearly lost his composure the entire time they sat next to each other.

She had never been afraid of her vampire, not even when they first met and her vampire declared Bella as hers. But hearing her vampire growl of anger, Bella was, for just a brief second, was gravely afraid of the vampire she was laying next to.

After a few minutes of taking breaths and of Bella uttering comforting words, her vampire finally relaxed enough to tell Bella her plan. Her vampire was a planner, always making plans for plans and alternate plans for any and every scenario they could run into.

“We need to go to their homestead and talk with the coven leader.” Her vampire declared, her accent thicker than normal given her heightened emotions, “I need to make sure this Edward is not a threat and what they plan to do. You have more of a right to be here as you are human, so if they cannot leave, they will need to remove Edward from the area entirely.”

“When do you want to go?” Bella asked. She was sure Charlie would be okay with her going out on Saturday. Bella could always just lie and say she was meeting up with some new friends and then they would have all day to find this ‘homestead’ that was likely just a house they all stayed in.

“Now.” Her vampire growled out, “I will not have you going another day, attending that school while a vampire could very well kill you.” Her vampires eyes were entirely pitch black and while she knew it was because her vampires anger, she also knew there was zero chance of her vampire hurting her and losing control. She could not say the same for Edward.

“I don’t think my dad will allow me.” Bella said, close to offering to stay home at least and her vampire could leave when Charlie got home.

“I won’t leave you alone; your concerns are very real and since I have no idea where this child is, it is much too risky to leave you on your own.” Her vampire said with a such a serious tone that Bella couldn’t even attempt to argue it, “You can call your father and tell him you made friends with these Cullen’s and that they asked you to come over to their house. Get him to say yes and then we can leave.”

Within half an hour, Bella had gotten permission from Charlie and Bella had driven her truck to someplace she could safely hide her truck in plain sight. As soon as she was parked, Bella immediately walked towards the woods that were near by to catch her ride. As soon as she was safely out of sight, her vampire appeared in front of her and then picked her up to run at a pace much too quickly for a human to run but slow enough to where it wouldn’t bother the human passenger.

Bella’s vampire was very good tracking, having to have done so a few centuries ago to keep her… ‘coven’ from getting away from her. It was a time of her vampire’s life she didn’t like talking about. Apparently, her vampire had only just barely survived; not because she lost her war but because she got too carried away. It was something her mate had taken a long time to come clean to Bella about. Her vampire had been afraid to scare her mate away but also didn’t want any secrets between them in case someone from her past showed up and tried to use her vampire’s past against her. There was a lot of explaining to be done on her vampires’ side but in the end, Bella was just happy to have her vampire.

Within minutes, her vampire was putting her down on the ground in front of a large mansion type house. Soon after being put on her feet, she saw the Cullen’s file out of the house nearly too fast for her to see. Her vampire moved to stand behind Bella to wrap her arms around Bella’s waist and pull Bella into the vampire’s chest. It was a possessive move Bella knew well; her vampire was making sure the Cullen’s knew Bella was protected and off limits.

A blonde-haired male with a calming auror around him stepped forward and seemed about to talk, but one of the kids, Jasper, immediately growled, crouched into a defensive position in front of Alice.

“Maria, you are not welcomed here.” Jasper growled in warning, immediately causing all but the two vampire Bella hadn’t met to crouch in a defensive stance as well.

“Hello Major, as I’m sure you’ve figured out, Bella here is mine and one of yours threatened her.” Maria said in a faux calmness that Bella knew meant she was already plotting how to kill them all if one of them dared to move in the offensive. “Edward has threatened my mate and if he does not leave this land and remains monitored while my mate is human, I will kill him myself.” Maria threatened with all her sexy haughtiness that Bella loved to hear.

“You do realize we out number you, right?” The big one called Emmett said as he cracked his knuckles, as if preparing for a fight.

Bella felt Maria about to move, likely to show exactly why Maria was a warlord in the first place, but Jasper spoke up again.

“No Emmett, there’s a very good reason why she was able to control entire newborn armies and fight in wars even the Volturi wanted nothing to do with.” Jasper said as he started to put out calming energy. As much as he felt pity towards the human for being mated with Maria, it wasn’t his place. Even if it was his place, not even he and his entire coven could win against Maria and her gift. “We can’t win. I advise we leave, preferably sooner rather than later.”

“Good.” Maria purred as she scented Bella’s neck. It was a power play move; Bella had seen Maria do it before when she had run into a nomad named James. Maria was making it look like she was letting her guard down when in face she was gearing up to use her gift. Bella couldn’t help but smirk as she secretly hoped she would get to watch her mate in action again. She was such a lovely sight to watch.

“Alright Jasper, I trust your judgement on this.” Carlisle said. He had heard about the wars Jasper had been forced to be a part of and while he didn’t know the details like Jasper and even Alice would, he knew that if Jasper said they needed to leave, they would do so. Thankfully Edward had already left to Alaska to visit their cousins, they would just join him there. Carlisle turned his full attention to the warlord, “I apologize for Edward’s actions. We will leave as soon as we safely can to not arouse suspicion and then we won’t return here for at least a century and a half or so.” Carlisle promised. He almost let slip that Bella was Edward’s singer and therefore should be praised for not having attacked already. But he knew if he did that, the warlord would likely demand Edward be killed as a vampire would always desperately crave their singer; no matter the distance. They would need to make sure Maria never found out.

“Good, be sure to leave quickly.” Maria said then picked up Bella again and ran off.

Maria would be stuck to Bella like glue when she wasn’t at school. And when she was, Maria would run laps around town to keep track of all the coven members to make sure no one tried to make a move. Maria would also make sure Bella kept an active phone call with Maria during the entire school day to make sure Maria would be able to hear if any of the Cullen members decided to take harm Bella for them having to move away.

Maria would make sure her mate was safe. When the Cullen’s finally left, Maria would do her damndest to try and convince her mate to allow her to change her sooner rather than later. As long as her human’s father wasn’t home, Maria was sure she could convince her mate to change much sooner rather than later; she was very good at negotiations after all. Especially where there was a lack of clothing involved.
