Twilight One Shot

Bella ran at a leisurely pace, unconcerned about anyone seeing her. It was the dead of night after all, anyone who wasn’t supposed to see her, wouldn’t be able to. Unlike most of the other supernatural’s that were still very behind in the technology department, Bella’s people weren’t. So as Bella ran through open plans and near highways, she knew that she was too fast for human eyes to see her and if a satellite was lucky enough to catch her, her people that held offices everywhere you could think of, would be able to make her disappear. Bella’s people also had the fact that the people and technology the humans used, couldn’t pick up the plane of existence Bella’s people lived and visited Earth on. Humans tended to be subconsciously blind to what isn’t their ‘norm’.

As it were, Bella had received an urgent message from her mate saying her coven was in a bit of hot water. So naturally, Bella immediately ran to her.

Bella had been away for about a hundred or so years, dealing with stuff and issues with her own kind. Her mate was comfortable enough to finally be on her own and given the amount of patience and control her mate had, Bella knew she would be fine. If there was one thing Bella was thankful for about her mate, it was her mate’s total understanding that Bella sticking around in one place for long was next to impossible. She had to be on the move, had to look for new things, had to keep learning. Bella had been around much longer than most other supernaturals on the planet and because of that, she had always been fascinated with what history had opted to forget and what civilizations survived. While Bella’s people had some internal power struggles, none of which concerned her as she was mostly on the human plane thanks to her mate, she had needed to present just in case. But the second her mate contacted her, saying her coven was in trouble, Bella raced to her.

Bella soon found herself in a very little town in a state called Washington. It had been quite a while since she had been in the new land and apparently, they had a lot of changes done since the last she was there. When she was there last, there were hundreds of different tribes of people trying to avoid wendigo’s having fun with them. Just from running past the little town of Forks showed how far they had come.

As Bella neared the house she knew her mate was located in, she could sense a lot of different vampires in the house. Pulling on her own intuition and abilities, Bella knew it was just her mate’s coven there. She could tell her mate had apparently been busy with changing people of her own volition, likely to make up for the loneliness caused from Bella not being there. Time was a hard concept to keep track of where she was, apparently she had been gone for far longer than she should have. She had a lot to make up to her wife.

She ran straight into the house, using her glamour to make sure to remain hidden from everyone but her mate; she would never hide from her mate. Since Bella didn’t know anyone in the room, she wanted to wait to reveal herself until she knew it was safe. Her people were even more secretive than vampires were; it helped that Bella had never been human. Anything that used to be human, could never see her people unless her people wanted them to. Her mate’s smile, a very restrained smile, showed just how well her mate knew her; even if they hadn’t spent as much time together.

Bella stood just behind her mate, just close enough to not touch. Thanks to her intuition, she knew her mate had gifted vampires in her coven, she didn’t want them to know she was there quite yet. Thanks to her own magic, her existence was kept hidden no matter how much her mate thought about her. Her mate’s thoughts and feelings were now fully hidden thanks to Bella’s close proximity. She fully believed in her mate’s privacy, it was something her people truly cherished and she would allow her mate the same luxury when she was around. She would show herself eventually but first, she wanted more information about what was going on. Her mate was safe, especially with her there, so now she just needed information.

All three gifted vampires were giving her mate weird looks, as their gifts had stopped working on her mate. Thankfully since they were in the middle of an important conversation, they wouldn’t say anything quite yet. Good, Bella wanted more info before she did anything.

“She is a danger to our family.” A blonde woman with a sneer that was likely a permanent fixture on her face said. “She is a human and shouldn’t know about us. We only have two options, both of which you don’t seem to want to take.” She said with a sneer as she glared at another woman with reddish brown hair. That was the mind reader. She seemed to be part of the topic of this conversation.

Bella ghosted her fingers along her mate’s fingers, letting her know she was still there even though Bella knew full well she knew. Bella just wanted to make sure her mate knew she wasn’t far from Bella’s thoughts, even if she was focusing on the conversation at hand.

“She doesn’t deserve that fate Rosalie.” The woman defended with a growl in her tone. “Angela has a beautiful soul and just being around us is tarnish. Her life is at risk being around us and what happened with Joss just shows she isn’t safe while we’re around.”

“But if we weren’t here, she would have likely attracted her anyways Edythe.” A woman with blonde hair and a heavy Southern accent said. “Regardless, the law is very straight forward. If we leave, she dies, if we stay, she needs to be turned.”

“I won’t let you hurt her, Jessamine.” Edythe said with a growl.

Bella smirked, now she knew exactly what the problem was. Edythe is mated to a human. But because she is still hung up with her human belief system, she doesn’t want to turn her mate. Why do humans find it so hard to understand that their beliefs can change, especially if they themselves go through a transformation such as turning into a vampire. Humans needed to learn that what they thought to be fact and true, could very well not be.

Well, Bella knew the Volturi. She had even helped them gain their power and take over from the Romanians. They were a lot of fun back in the day before Sulpicia became so paranoid and decided she and her mates should never leave their stronghold. Bella really needed to visit them again; it had been probably about a thousand years or so since she last saw them. A visit was long overdue.

She placed her hands on her mate’s shoulder, using her a shield of sorts so she wouldn’t be swarmed by the vampires in some sort of attempt to protect their coven leader. She understood her mate had called her hear because she had very big weak spot for her first turned and was seemingly having trouble putting her foot down. Her mate was really much too kind for her own good.

It was a good thing Bella was more than happy to be strong for her mate. It was the least she could do, especially after being away for so long.

“Actually, this Angela will not be left behind.” Bella commanded, using her Fae tone so the vampires could easily sense her strength and power behind her words. “She is your mate and unprotected. You have much to learn if your first reaction when things get hard is to run away.”

“Who the hell are you?” The buff woman asked as everyone stood from their seats and stood in a defensive position as if about to attack me.

“Eleanor, everyone, there’s no reason for panic.” Bella’s mate said in a calm tone. “This is Bella, she is my mate.” Carine introduced Bella to her coven for the first time.

Carine had always told them she was taken, had met her mate and that her mate was alive and fine. But she had never had her mate come meet her found family. She understood her mate was very much a wondering soul; most Fae were.

“What is she?” Jessamine’s mate asked, making Bella smirk. Out of everyone there, Alice, the psychic seemed the least concerned. She was probably more concerned that she couldn’t see Bella’s or Carine’s future.

“It’s awfully rude to talk about someone in front of them.” Bella said with a smirk, ignoring the small chastising squeeze of her hand. She would have to remember that her mate was very fond of her family, Bella needed to respect that. “My name is Bella and humans have called me by many names. The most popular one at the moment is Fae.” Bella said with a big smirk as she saw the shock show on everyone’s face. “My love, you seem to have failed in teaching your family about those that exist in the other plane.” She gently scolded her mate. Truthfully, Bella loved that her mate’s family didn’t know about her people. It always amused her to prove to them that Fae existed. “Your coven seems to have gotten you quite in the predicament.” Bella said, giving her mate her full attention.

“Yes, I understand Edythe’s point of view but at the same time, we must follow the laws.” Carine told her mate. She pulled her mate’s hands from her shoulders and wrapped them around her waist and held onto her arms. “I was hoping you could provide an alternative solution where everyone could be happy.” Carine said with a gentle smile. She knew she babied her oldest turned a bit too much and she knew eventually it would cause her coven problems. Now she was facing those problems. Edythe couldn’t just turn Angela, nor could anyone else in her family, because as the pastor’s daughter, her absence would be known immediately. They also couldn’t just disappear with her because of the same reasons. They had to be discreet. But time wasn’t on their side when it involved their secret and the Volturi. But her mate, her mate was friends with the Volturi as well, and being a Fae she tended to be quite the trickster and able to think outside the box. That was what she was counting on.

“I believe I do have something in mind.” Bella said with a tilt of head. “But, I’ll need more information first. Then we can make a deal.”

Carine smirked, she knew better than to agree to anything when it involved her mate. While she knew Bella would never do anything to hurt her or anyone she cared about, it certainly didn’t mean she couldn’t be a pain in the butt when she was bored.

“You’re really going to trust this stranger with our lives?” The angry blonde asked again, more concerned about the power she felt coming off of this woman rather than the woman would be able to help or not. If Carine trusted her, then Rosalie would as well. But everything she knew about Fae said to never trust one. She still wasn’t sure Fae were really a thing much less trusting one.

“Oh young one, you should never trust a Fae.” Bella said with a Cheshire grin.

“Stop Bella.” Carine scolded, knowing exactly how uneasy her coven was feeling. “I know it may seem odd and slightly off-putting, but I promise, she is my mate and I know, without a doubt, she can and will help us.”

With that command, the Cullen coven had no choice but to accept their coven leaders orders. She rarely ever gave direct orders, so when she did, no matter how nicely put, the coven knew to follow it. There would be time to ask questions, and they would be asking many. But for the time being, they would listen to what Bella wanted to do and just trust Carine wouldn’t steer them wrong.
