Believe Me Chapter 20
Added 2022-05-08 05:04:47 +0000 UTCEveryone had split between three places to relax until the next training would begin. The pack went back to their land and escorted Esme, Kate and Emmett with them so the vampires could run around the town and help make sure there no only no missing people but also no vampire scents the wolves may have missed in their rounds. Sam had decided, completely ignoring what the counsel wanted and demanded, he felt it was safer for his people if there was a second set of eyes, so to speak, looking out for the safety of the reservation.
Esme went with Leah to not only make sure the young woman didn’t over exert herself, no matter how many times Leah assured Esme she was okay Esme didn’t want to take any risks, but she also wanted to meet her mate’s parents. Even though both Esme and Leah would very much outlive Leah’s parents, Esme still felt it was appropriate to meet them at least once. She knew if she were in their positions, she would want to meet her child’s suitor.
Victoria, Charlotte and Tanya went with Bella to the human’s house to spend some time there, perfectly okay with being at the house since Bella knew her father was out fishing with some work buddies of his. Bella wanted to relax in a familiar setting, even if it was still on the newer side to her since it had been a while since she had been there, it was better than staying at the Cullen house with everyone else.
Originally Bella was going to watch some movies with Victoria, cuddling on the couch and hopefully some making out as well. At least, that was her plan until Tanya glared at Victoria every time the red head’s hand wondered; even when Bella’s hand wondered Tanya would glare at Victoria as if daring the red head to do something. Charlotte was mostly content with watching the movie from Charlie’s lazy boy and smirking every time Tanya metaphorically poured ice water onto Victoria.
Hallway though the movie, Bella got tired of Tanya ‘cockblocking’ every move Victoria tried to do to get closer to Bella. So, Bella started asking questions instead.
“So, when this is all over, what will happen to me?” Bella asked, her own goal in mind. “Will I be taken to become a vampire? Or will I stay here to live my life as a human?”
Bella remembered how insistent Edward was for her to remain human and to have nothing to do with vampires. They hadn’t really discussed much about Bella becoming a vampire, but the few times she had brought it up, he quickly shot down the idea. Bella had started to think of forever with Edward, she had become obsessed with being with him forever; at least she would have if she hadn’t met Victoria.
“I think that is mostly up to you.” Tanya answered as she moved to sit next to the couple on the couch, making sure to angle her body so she was perfectly facing both Bella and Victoria.
“You will have to become a vampire in order to keep within the laws.” Charlette added. She knew this wasn’t a conversation she really needed to involve herself in but she felt she should remind everyone about the laws and the consequences of breaking the laws.
“I’m aware.” Tanya drawled, not liking the reminder that while Bella was human, she was technically still in danger if the Volturi ever found out.
“That won’t happen.” Victoria said with a growl towards the nomad for suggesting something so heinous happening to her mate. Victoria faced her mate again before carefully answering, “While I am all for give you choices and not forcing you to do something, becoming a vampire will happen in your near future. The longer you stay a human, the more at risk we are of the Volturi hearing about a human with vampire knowledge and they would rather kill you first then turning you.”
“The Volturi?” Bella asked, worried about who those people were based off of how the three vampires were acting.
Tanya then took the time to explain who the Volturi were, not mention her and her sisters past with the rulers in favor of telling Bella when her sisters were with her and Victoria and Charlette were not with them. As Tanya told Bella of the seriousness of the situation with Bella still being human, a small part of her was proud as Bella looked at as she spoke. She felt like the mother she knew to be towards the young human, she was proud she could impart such important information that would most definitely save her child’s life in the future. She felt she was doing her job as a parent.
“In the end, as long as we don’t wait too long, you will be turned.” Tanya affirmed.
“We will need to wait for you to graduate high school first and likely leave for college, or at least that would be the easiest story to sell your father and friends.” Victoria explained. She already had Bella’s story worked out in her head the moment she found out her mate was still human and still in school. Then there was the added difficulty of her father being the Police Chief, he had extra pull to keep looking for Bella when others would give up. It was a fine line to walk to make sure Bella was old enough to be on her own to disappear and that were no traces of where she may have ended up. It was something Victoria’s gift was made for.
“Then I only have a year or so before I have to be turned?” Bella asked, causing two of the three vampires to worry they were putting too much pressure on the woman too soon. She was technically still a child, not even eighteen yet.
“It would be the safest, if the Volturi decided to do a random check in with either covens, then they would instantly know they were in contact with a human that knew our secret. They would be quicker to kill you than allow time for you to be changed; they would also likely kill anyone that knew you were human and remained alive.” Charlette added.
Bella took a minute to collect her thoughts. Truthfully, since meeting Victoria and now with the Denali sisters, she couldn’t imagine not becoming a vampire. Leaving Charlie would be hard but, as harsh as it may sound, she wasn’t as close to him as he probably would have liked. She lived most of her life, about ninety percent of it, without him there. She didn’t have a strong bond with him. She felt closer to the Denali sisters who she had just met than the person who she had technically known her whole life. If that wasn’t a clue that she was meant to be a vampire, then she didn’t know what was.
There was also the fact that she couldn’t leave Victoria. She couldn’t continue to age as Victoria remained ageless. She knew Victoria was in her early twenties, perhaps waiting a year or two so they would be closer in age would be nice. But if push came to shove, Bella wouldn’t mind being changed that day to stay with the red head.
“I don’t care when I’m changed.” Bella finally said, sure of her words, looking from Tanya to Victoria. “As long as I’m changed in a way to give Charlie closure of my death and within time that the Volturi doesn’t think we broke any laws and try to hurt anyone.” Bella said with conviction. She knew she wanted forever with her vampire, there was no life for Bella if it didn’t have Victoria. Thankfully, unlike with Edward, she knew Victoria would never allow herself to live without Bella by her side.
Charlette’s phone vibrated in her pocked. Since she knew there were just a handful of people who had her number and they all knew where she was, she figured the message coming through had to be important.
“There’s still plenty of time for us to figure everything out.” Tanya assured her child, “Nothing will be done without going through all the options and making sure everything is well planned out. We want to make sure no loose strings are left behind.” Tanya knew it as time went on and technology improved, changing someone was becoming harder and harder. Hiding was becoming harder and harder. Finding traces of people wasn’t nearly as hard as it used to be. It also made it hard to be in public in case they were caught on someone’s video feed as they filmed public places. It was getting too hard and annoying to change someone and not get caught or have people get suspicious.
“All that matters is that soon, you will be all mine.” Victoria husked in Bella’s ear as she pulled her human further into her, “You will have my venom running through you, making you mine in every way.” Victoria said, her eyes darkening at the thought of her venom running through her mate’s body.
“Well, it could be our venom as well.” Tanya said, not liking having Victoria changing her daughter. While Tanya understood why Victoria wanted to, Tanya didn’t like hearing about it. She and her mates had wanted to change Bella, not let Victoria. Bella couldn’t be of their blood, but she could at least be of their venom.
“It will be mine.” Victoria assured her mate. She was Bella’s mate, it was her job to keep her safe by changing her into a vampire, not these three succus’s.
“Guys.” Charlette said. If she still had blood flowing through her body, her face would have paled from the texts she was receiving from her mate.
“I’m sure it doesn’t matter who changes me, just as long as it happens.” Bella said, trying to diffuse the two vampires. Truthfully, she felt safer with the Denali’s changing her but she felt it hotter to have Victoria do it. If they flat out asked her who she wanted to change her, she didn’t think she would be able to decide.
Charlette stood from her seat as she put her phone back into her pocket. “We need to leave now.”
The serious tone Charlette used had everyone’s attention on her, Tanya’s and Victoria’s argument forgotten. For the time being at least.
“What is it?” Tanya said, already having a sense of what was going on.
Tanya placed her hand on Bella’s thigh to have contact with the human to help her senses believe her human was okay and safe. Victoria wrapped her arm around her mate’s shoulder’s and pulled her into her. They knew what Charlette was going to tell them.
“Alice knows when James is going to attack. We need to get back to the Cullen house. All of us.” Charlette said.
There were questions all three women had for Charlette, but nothing that couldn’t wait until they were all together. All three vampires immediately listened for any humans they could hear that may see them. Thankfully, Charlie’s house was perfectly situated with the backdoor facing the woods and was very easily left out of without anyone seeing, even if they were to move at a human space. Having vampire speed only ensured no one would see them. Victoria instantly picked up Bella bridal style and followed Charlette out of the house with Tanya running behind Victoria. This way Bella was protected from all sides in case a newborn were to show up. They doubted a newborn would be this close to town without them having sensed them prior, but it didn’t hurt to be cautious.
Bella rested her head on Victoria’s chest, using her as a shield from the wind. Hopefully the text Charlette received meant the fight was going to happen soon. As much as Bella wished there wasn’t going to be a fight, she really just wanted the fight over with so she wouldn’t have to worry about anything anymore.
Hopefully, this would be the start of the end.
