One Shot-Twilight

Bella raced around her room grabbing last minute items she would be needing for the night. It was her graduation night, thank God, and she had a lot of plans for tonight. Well, Alice had a lot of plans for her tonight that apparently involved a party the whole senior class is invited to and an after party for just the Cullen’s and her. Charlie would be at the graduation and the first party, then he was going to First Beach to celebrate with his friends for the kid’s graduations from the tribe. It would just be her and the Cullen’s and hopefully, if her plan worked like she hoped it would, it would end with just her and one Cullen.

Once Bella was sure she had everything packed away in her overnight bag, Alice had only been nagging her for the past month to make sure she had everything ready, she went downstairs to look for Charlie. Charlie had been so happy to see her graduate his eyes always looked seconds away from leaking tears whenever he saw Bella. Bella was secretly happy her dad was so proud of her over something she thought was more of an expectation; but she would never tell him that, instead she would just tease him as much as she could get away with.

She found him in the kitchen nursing a beer and giving Bella an instant opportunity to tease.

“Do you really think you should be drinking before driving Sherriff?” Bella said with a grin, “Need some liquid courage for something?” She added on when she saw his eyes tear up again when they landed on her.

Charlie coughed in indignation and blushed, “I’ve barely had a few sips.” Charlie immediately defended.

“Says everyone who has ever been pulled over.” Bella said with a smirk, more than amused at Charlie’s horrible attempt at a defense.

Charlie stood up, clearly intending to start to leave and started to dump the drink down the drain, “Driving while under the influence is a serious offense,” Charlie said with his ‘cop voice’, a voice Bella had long sense learned to mostly ignore, “I’ll have you know this was just a new beer Billy wanted me to try.” He finished dumping the liquid and threw away the can as he started to walk towards the door to leave, “Turns out I was right, this beer tastes like crap.” He said with a smile. He pulled out his keys and smiled towards his only child, “Let’s go before you end up being late. Can’t have you showing up late and having everyone wonder who’s holding everyone up can we?”

Bella couldn’t help but roll her eyes; of course he would threaten being in the public to get her to stop teasing him.

“I can personally promise you I will never purposefully put myself in that type of situation.” Bella said as she shoulder checked him out the door, barely missing a retaliation swing of his hand.

“Maybe I should make you late for punishment of beating up your old man.” Charlie said with smile.

“As if you would do that to your only child.”

The drive to the school, Forks was so small there wasn’t a big stadium to go to for graduations, they all just went to the high school football field, was short and full of teasing. Bella would miss her dad when in a few months she would have to ‘disappear’. But she wouldn’t think about that, she would focus on the time she did have with him; not including that night because she was hoping for something she never wanted Charlie to be associated with. If there was one thing she and Charlie were both really good at, it was ignoring the bad emotions and she wanted nothing to do with the emotions of having to fake her death in the near future.

“I’m going to go find a seat, we’ll make sure to do our best to embarrass you as much as possible kid.” Charlie said, his eyes once again glistening. It looked like he was about to hug Bella, but instead only awkwardly put his hand behind his head and stumbled backwards and turned around to leave.

Bella found where the other seniors were waiting fairly quickly; it was hard to ignore Jessica’s loud voice as she panicked about having her makeup looking just right. She was quickly pulled in with everyone else to make final adjustments to their outfits and cap and gowns so they would be perfect in the pictures their parents would be taking. Alice joined them as soon as Bella arrived, more than happy to ditch Edward to his own pity party he had been holding for himself since ‘losing Bella’. With Alice talking up the party she had prepared for everyone, it was a wonder the teachers were able to get all the students to get in the appropriate lines and walk to their designated seats.

Even though they were a small school, there were still plenty of students to allow the graduation ceremony to take a couple hours. If it wasn’t for the fact that Bella was practically at the end of the line of students in alphabetical order, she would have already attempted to fall asleep like a few of friends were doing… although she wasn’t sure if Mike was pretending or not.

Bella was very excited when her name was finally called and she took the first step across the stage. Her eyes immediately found her dad, it was hard for the police chief in full uniform to not stand out; no matter what she said she couldn’t talk her dad out of wearing the uniform. As soon as she found her dad, her eyes started to move again to find the one person she wanted to see more than even her dad. Seconds later her eyes found the molten gold eyes she had been looking for and her grin widened. Her planned after party for two would be amazing; she had no doubt her gold eyed beauty also had plans for just the two of them.

Once she was back in her seat, very thankful she hadn’t embarrassed herself like trip or forget to shake the principle’s hand or something, she couldn’t sit still as they waited for the last few students with names further down the alphabet than her to be called. She sat on the edge of her seat for them to be released and once they were, time seemed to speed up.

In no time she was the Cullen’s house saying goodbye to Charlie, she had already gotten permission to spend the weekend celebrating with the other two graduates from the Cullen household so it would be a few days before Bella would see Charlie again. She tried to find her golden eyed beauty all night but whenever she got close, Bella was distracted by one of her human friends and pulled away to do something else. It even seemed like Alice was orchestrating her distractions from the one person she had been dying to see all night.

As soon as the last human left, no surprise it was Jessica who lasted the longest in the secretive Cullen mansion that she would never be able to be in again, Bella put herself on a mission to find the Cullen that had evaded her all night.

“She’s not downstairs.” Edward with a frown and just a slightly hopeful look on his face. He had been in the living room looking out the large windows contemplating leaving the Cullen’s for a little bit. He wouldn’t be able to stand listening to thoughts about the new couple. Edward had to commend Esme on her courting methods. While Bella would have had no problems jumping straight to a full out relationship with all the perks just after a day of meeting the woman, Esme made Bella wait until after graduation so she would be a full adult for when their relationship went to the next stage. After hearing Esme’s thoughts all month long as she made her plans, Edward knew he wouldn’t be able to stick around for long as he was still mourning the loss of Bella who had nearly been his mate not Esme’s.

Bella huffed in annoyance; her mate was definitely playing with her. For as kind hearted and gracious her mate portrayed herself to be, Esme sure did have a real mean streak when it came to their love life. Esme wanted them to wait to get physical until she was not only eighteen but also graduate from at least high school. Esme had been turned when she was twenty four, so while age wasn’t a big deal since she was over a hundred, she wanted Bella to be a legal adult when they got physical and preferably closer to her own age before she was turned. Bella agreed with her mate. What Bella didn’t agree with was how much teasing the woman could do while simultaneously not be actively teasing her.

Esme only ever hugged her and while Bella’s hormones wanted her honey haired vampire to do more than hug her, Esme never once crossed that line. Bella really admired her for it. But there was only so much teasing a young adult could take before exploding and Bella was sure she was close to that point.

“Do you know where she is?” Bella asked, her previous excitement at possibly finding her mate at long last drained from her body. Edward had been so intent they were mates when they first met, even after assuring Edward she was one hundred percent gay. It wasn’t until she met Esme because she had gone over to yell at her classmate’s family about Edward being way too obsessed with her; vampire or not there had to be someone as an authority figure and Bella was going to get the point across to that person that Edward needed to stop bugging her at school. The second she saw Esme and Esme saw her, there were no longer any problems with Edward.

“She’s outback in her garden.” He answered with a sad frown; yes, he would be leaving for some time to let his heart heal from his loss.

“Thank you.” Bella said with a sad smile, knowing the boy had a lot of things to work through and likely wouldn’t be able to do it while she was in the house.

As mean as it sounds, it wasn’t her problem. Edward needed to get over himself and grow up, that was something only he would be able to help himself with. Bella bolted to go find Esme, a grin growing on her face as she recognized the silhouette of her mate standing just where she was told she would be.

Bella threw the door open and raced to her mate, happy to be alone with the woman at long last. Bella slammed into Esme’s back, throwing her arms around the woman, hugging her as tight as she could. She buried her face into Esme’s hair, happy to be alone with her mate at long last.

Esme laughed, putting her hands on Bella’s as if to hold them in place, “You’re acting like you haven’t seen me in years.” Esme teased, very happy at her mates reaction to seeing her. Truth be told, she had been struggling for a while with keeping her boundaries with Bella in place. Being mated to such a young woman was hard; the waiting was killing her. But Esme would never once think about taking advantage of her mate, so she waited.

And now that wait was over.

“I have plans for you Bella.” Esme purred as she turned around, hugging Bella to her as well, never wanting to let go again.

“So do I.” Bella said as she leaned in for a kiss. Kissing was heaven to Bella; never mind it was the only thing she was allowed to do with Esme besides cuddling, kissing Esme was pure bliss and she never wants to stop.

Esme moved her hands to cup her mates head and gave her a soft smile. Esme never thought she would find her mate after seeing Rosalie find hers so quickly and then hearing about how quickly Alice found Jasper, she had started to lose hope. When she first woke up as a vampire, she thought Carlisle was her mate but it took just a few months after her newborn phase to realize they really weren’t mates no matter how much they loved each other. And that hurt, she had been so hopeful. When Bella knocked on her front door to berate her and Carlisle about how Edward was acting, Esme felt her whole world freeze and realign itself. She couldn’t be happier to have Bella.

“Mm, I’m sure you do.” Esme hummed, more than aware of all the plans her mate had made and Alice had shared about what Bella wanted the two to do after the party was over. But Esme had a better idea she had already run by Charlie. Hers was a much better idea and would allow all the Cullen’s to disappear without any suspicion when Bella also disappeared with her. “But my plan is still better.” She said with a smile, fighting back a laugh when her mate pouted.

“My plans are amazing, especially when it gets to the part where we don’t have any clothes on.” Bella said, her mind already flashing to what she was hoping she would be doing later that night.

Esme couldn’t hold back a laugh if she tried, her poor mate was definitely suffering from her teenage hormones; Esme could smell it. Too bad she was about to give her mate some bad news.

“But I’m afraid I’ve already made plans for us that involve us taking a nice long drive.” Esme purred, knowing the full on pout she was going to get.

“That sounds nice.” Bella said, thinking perhaps Esme wanted to take her to a nice hotel to get away from the family. It could be nice.

“It will be just the two of us,” Esme said with smile.

“I like that idea.” Bella said, her mind going straight to the gutter as she thought of things they could do without risking any furniture being broken by Esme.

“To the airport.” Esme finished, amused as she saw Bella’s face go blank.

“What?” Bella took a step back, arms still around Esme but oh so confused. “The airport? Why, we can’t do anything there.”

“I bought an island a long time ago to get away from the family, we’re going to go there.” Esme said with a smile as shock took over her mates’ face. “I’m going to turn you there and go through your newborn phase there, with just the two of us.”

A moment of panic ran through Bella as she thought about the goodbye she told Charlie not too long was more than just a ‘goodbye, see you in a few days’. It was her final goodbye. Bella swallowed the lump in her throat, it would be hard but Bella was ready for it. As much as she loved her father, Bella was determined to be with Esme forever. Being turned a lot sooner than she had thought was okay, she knew about the laws and chances of them getting in trouble only increased the longer she stayed human.

All that mattered was she was about to have her eternity with her mate. She would have had to say goodbye to Charlie sometime and while she would prefer it to not happen so soon, at least she would have her mate to help her through it.

“I would love to have eternity with you.” Bella said with a smile.

“I look forward to it.” Esme said before pulling Bella in for another kiss.
