Doctor Who definitely leans into the Supernatural, but usually with an alien backstory. They do it in a clever way though, like the supernatural stories we know today are really just ways to explain alien happenings. So Queen Victoria is a real Queen. Until the recent death of Queen Elizabeth II she was the UK's longest reigning monarch. The behind the story facts are all true, she did lose her husband quite young, always wore black, is famously quoted as saying "we are not amused", and was inflicted with "the Royal Disease." What's more, her husband Prince Albert is rumored to have his 🍆 pierced which is why it's called a "prince albert" when someone gets their 🍆 pierced to this day. I'm Scottish (moved to the US at 32) so I love this episode being the first of the New Who stuff to be set there proper. David Tenant is also Scottish but the accent he has for most of this episode isn't actually his genuine accent. It's an impersonation of a Scottish accent since the Doctor doesn't have a natural Scottish accent he said that it shouldn't sound too genuine. I know that you've been following Juliette's Buffy stuff. She watched this episode around the time Oz's werewolf story was pretty big so she was super excited to see how Doctor Who would handle the werewolf. Sorry you were feeling a bit off, hope you feel better soon. Excited for the next one.
