Throughout the 90s, we frequently peppered our show with music from earlier eras, playing music we loved that many of our listeners may not have been up on or in some cases, frowned upon. It was a fun yet subtle way of highlighting the interconnected DNA of hip-hop from the park-jam DJ era, through early rap, into our 90s, where layered loops and densely scripted raps reigned. On occasion, we filled the whole show with older music.
On this night in January 1995, we clearly decided that 90s rap was on hiatus, even though our boys Hard 2 Obtain were scheduled to come up. Keeping in step with the theme of the evening, the guys rhymed over Lord Sear's beat box. I don't remember much from that night, but the good mood is palpable. It just sounds like a bunch of friends bugging out, kicking it while listening to good music.
