12 days of Patreon DECEMBER 5th: John Lees

John Lees is an award-winning comic book writer from Glasgow, Scotland.  He is best known for his work on acclaimed horror series And Then Emily Was Gone, with artist Iain Laurie, and hard-boiled Glasgow crime saga Sink, drawn by frequent collaborator Alex Cormack.

John's other credits include superhero drama The Standard, serial killer thriller Oxymoron: The Loveliest Nightmare, psychedelic nightmare quest Quilte, and a story for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Universe.  His latest projects are Mountainhead, a snow-swept thriller from IDW Publishing, working with artist Ryan Lee, and Hotell, a horror anthology series from AWA Upshot, featuring artist Dalibor Talajic.

As part of 12 Days of Patreon, John is offering one of his original short stories shared as an exclusive to Patrons. To keep up the Christmas theme, the story John is sharing is last year’s Christmas special: Meat Feast. This is a festive Sink tale starring Kieran and Louise, the protagonists of Sink #10. And as an added bonus, John has also included a video of him doing a live reading of the story, and also a PDF of Sink #10 featuring the characters’ first appearance.

There are multiple different tiers available to those who choose to become one of John’s Patrons.

For just $2 a month, you can unlock the Starter Package. At this level, you will have access to regular updates from John, ranging from reviews to writing about the creative process. He also offers behind-the-scenes commentary on his comics, with the chance to ask questions and participate in the discussion. Currently, he is running through a page-by-page breakdown of Sink.

For $5 a month, you can unlock the Story Package. At this level, you get access to the original story he shares exclusively on Patreon each month, and any accompanying bonus content. Today’s 12 Days of Patreon offering is a sampling of what you’ll be regularly receiving as a backer of this level.

For $10 a month, you can unlock the Process Package. At this level, in addition to all the content of the other levels, John also opens up the script archive. Each month, he shares a script - some published, some that never saw the light of day - along with commentary on its production.

For $25 a month, you can unlock the Workshop Package. Each month, John will host a writing workshop on Patreon. He will read and review comic scripts, providing detailed feedback and analysis. Patrons at this level will be able to submit their scripts for review.

For $50, you can unlock the Insider Package. At this level, you are in the inner circle! In addition to the rewards of all other levels, you’ll also get previews of in-process projects, pitch packages, script snippets and concept art, getting a front row view of John’s work as he develops it, and often seeing content before just about anybody else in the world. You’ll also periodically get sent cool bonus content by post.
