Pyreling

Folklore describes Pyrelings as humans who succumbed to volcanic heat or ash smoke, their skeletons enriched with igneous rock and their souls burning with anger caused by their untimely demise. In actuality, Pyrelings are lesser elementals, fire-fickle beings manifesting in places of intense volcanic activity, either to a minor planar convergence or on the behest of greater elemental beings. Pyreling familiars are conceivably very popular among Pyromancers, as they are amicable, if hot-headed and vivacious, undemanding and worthwhile objects of study for those seeking insight into the very nature of fire itself.

Pyrelings are a great way to populate volcanic areas or planar environments, add another layer to an encounter via summoning or even act as allies or familiars for your players. Their fiery temperament makes for fun roleplay and their elemental nature achieves cool visuals on the virtual tabletop.

As CR 1/2 minions, Pyrelings aren't that complex. That doesn't mean you can't have fun with them, as seen by this take on the established "explodes on death" mechanic.
